Chapter 154: Chapter 153 - Contact

Point-of-View: Dietrich Engel

———————————————————————————

Just stay patient, focus, and keep at it...I have to have faith that my sister will connect with me eventually. Don’t get anxious or panic, just stay calm.

But...that’s a lot easier said than done. Not because I’m still struggling with the technique or anything, I’ve pretty much fully mastered it at this point. What’s making this harder than it needs to be...is the fact that no one is shutting the hell up!

Some of the Category 0s keep snipping at Inoka and Aurora unprovoked, openly voicing their doubts about relying on me, and Inoka isn’t just keeping quiet about it. Which I appreciate, since he’s defending me and all, but at the same time, I would appreciate some quiet even more.

Aurora, on the other hand, has been silent this whole time, which is somehow even more terrifying. Because if she does snap after all this, it’s not going to be pretty.

I mean, seriously, is a little peace and quiet too much to ask for!? I’m tempted to stop focusing and snap at everyone to shut the hell up, but there’s a chance that that’ll only make things worse, so I’ll hold my tongue.

Still, this is incredibly irritating, and it sounds like they’re getting even louder. Why do they all have to be here anyway?

They could’ve just waited somewhere else until I established a connection, it wouldn’t even take ten seconds for Neo to pick them up from a different location and take them to wherever Eden is hiding out at.

This is such a damn pain, so many of these Category 0s are unpleasant as hell. What’s their problem anyway? Lousy pieces of crap.

I mean, really, they’re all grown adults, you’d think they’d have at least some level of maturity. But instead, they’re petty, close-minded and idiotic, to put it lightly.

Neo did tell us to avoid antagonizing them and to just grin and bear it, but they’re the ones antagonizing us. I certainly don’t fault Inoka for standing up to them...I just wish they could argue some place out of earshot.

Hm? Oh, it’s finally quiet...not sure what happened, but I’m definitely not complaining. Let’s keep at it, I’m not giving up until I manage to link with my sister. I’ve waited for way too long as it is, I’m not waiting any longer.

Sounds like someone’s talking again, but it doesn’t sound hostile...well, whatever, I’d prefer more quiet, but at least it’s better than another tense argument.

After a short while, a loud splash echoed out...come on, just ignore it and focus, block out all noise and concentrate. Keep trying to reach her, it’s only a matter of time now, I just need to be patient and-...huh?

Am I imagining things or...or did my telepathic link just make a connection? Calm down, don’t get excited, I need to stay focused...

"H...hello?" I sent my thoughts through the link, as I felt my heartbeat start to quicken.

For a moment, there was silence. And then...

"Am...am I dreaming? This is for real, right? Right?" Came a familiar voice that made my heart skip a beat.

"Is that you...Petra?" I responded, inadvertently holding my breath.

"Dieter? Is it really you?" She whispered in a tone of disbelief.

"Y-yeah...yeah, it’s me!" I replied with a slight stutter in my jubilation.

"Oh, wow, I...I’m at a loss for words...damn it, finally!" She squealed in excitement.

"I missed you so much! And I’m sorry I kept you waiting all this time!" I exclaimed as my emotions welled up inside me.

"No...I’m just glad to hear your voice again, I...I thought I might never be able to ever again. I’m just...so happy right now!" She responded joyfully.

"Yeah...so am I. Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you?" I asked her, feeling concerned and worried.

"No, I’m fine...I did feel like I was losing my mind for a while, but I feel so much better now, like you can’t even imagine! What about you, are you doing okay?" She inquired in reply.

"Mhm, I’m doing great, and even better now that I finally managed to connect with you!" I remarked happily.

"It feels so good to talk with you again, but...this may sound greedy, but I...I want to see you. I want to hold you, and to be held by you...but I guess that’s easier said than done, huh?" She sighed wistfully.

"No...not at all. It’s very possible. Could you wait a minute or two? I’ll reestablish the link again in just a moment, and then...Eden will be crushed, and you’ll be saved!" I informed her.

"Huh? What do you mean?" She responded in bemusement.

"It’s a bit too long to explain right now, but in a nutshell, there’s a way to locate you using this combined with another couple of techniques. So, yeah, we’ll be seeing each other again soon! Well, unfortunately, I haven’t been allowed to come there myself, since they say I’m not strong enough. But a couple of my friends will be there, so I’m sure you’ll be fine."

"Friends, huh? I’ve made a couple of friends here too...well, one of them went missing and I’m worried, but-."

"Oh, you mean X? She’s here with us, and thanks to her, an attack was launched on the place where you were being held before, but you were already gone by then."

"I’m glad to hear that she’s alright. Okay, then, I’ll cut off the link now, and I’ll start trying to establish it again in a minute."

"Alright, got it."

As she severed the link, I opened my eyes, my body feeling much lighter somehow, before I met Neo’s gaze, unable to stop myself from smiling widely...

"I did it...I linked with my sister!" I exclaimed, unable to contain my joy as I said to Neo, "Let’s do this!"

"Way to go, kid, I knew you could do it. Inoka, you’re up," He responded, as Inoka bounded over with a nod.

We then lined up, Inoka between Neo and I, as he placed a hand on each of our shoulders, closing his eyes and focusing.

"Alright, Neo, you should be feeling what Dieter’s feeling right now. Dieter, use your Thought Communication and establish the link, maintain it at least until Neo managed to narrow down the location," Instructed Inoka, as his hands began glowing. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"Got it, just leave it to me," I nodded in response, as I closed my eyes and focused.

"Oh, that was fast," Came Petra’s voice.

"Yeah, I want this done as soon as possible. I just can’t wait any longer to see you again," I replied sheepishly.

"Well, I feel the exact same way. This feels almost too good to be true."

"It’s definitely for real...and hey, since I won’t be coming there myself, how about I keep talking to you like this till you’re rescued?" I suggested.

"I definitely won’t say no to that. This is easily the best moment I’ve experienced since the day we got separated."

"Yeah...same here."

My focus was then disrupted, as Neo suddenly exclaimed...

"Alright, I got it! I know exactly where your sister is!" He declared as he took out his phone and opened a map, "Based on the area, and the coordinates...right here, in Egypt! Wow, it’s not far from the pyramids, and based on the elevation...I think they’re underground. I can sense an Anti-Teleportation Field in place as well, so there’s no doubt about it."

"There’s probably going to be a detection barrier too," Suddenly came X’s voice, as she emerged from her RV, "Hey...take me there, I’ll nullify all the active barriers. But that’s all I’ll do, I won’t go inside."

"Thanks, I really appreciate that," I said to her gratefully.

"Don’t mention it, kid," She replied with a smile.

"Alright, that’d be pretty useful," Neo accepted her offer with a nod, before looking around, "There’s no telling how many Eden members will be down there. We’ve got the twelve of us Category 0s, plus X, Aurora, Inoka, Mike, Liling and Kiyana. We’ll also be bringing in about four hundred other Category 1s and a few 2s once we’re in, but we’ll still almost definitely be outnumbered, so it might get rough. Anyone want to opt out? This’ll be your last chance to do so."

"No way am I opting out, there’s a chance that I might encounter that woman who orchestrated the deaths of my cheetah family...that’s reason enough," Spoke up Aurora with a gleam in her eyes.

"That’s good to hear, you opting out would be a huge blow," Grinned Neo wryly.

"Hah, as if one little girl can make much of a difference," Scoffed the Category 0 with the Russian accent.

"Unfortunately, and as much as I hate to admit it, she most definitely will make a huge difference," Grumbled the guy who Aurora had beat up in Hungary.

"I can attest to that. In fact, you should be careful not to get in her way," The French Category 0 informed the Russian guy.

Yeah, so, I don’t know any of their names.

"What a joke. I will believe it when I see it," Responded the Indian one, a look of disbelief on his face.

"Alright, that’s enough of that," Sighed Neo in exasperation, as he opened a portal and gestured to it, "If you’re done snipping at each other...let’s get this thing started, shall we?"
