"So, uh...why exactly are you here?" I sighed in exasperation.
"Huh? Oh, because I asked that portal guy with the ponytail, and he said okay," Responded Fenris with a grin.
"Not what I meant. What’s your reason for coming here?" I inquired as I rubbed the sides of my head with a slight groan.
"Oh, that’s easy. The reason is you! Also, you never answered me," He replied expectantly.
"Uh...about what?" I mumbled in bemusement.
"Aw, you forgot? Well, fine, I’ll ask again...marry me!" He requested, getting down on one knee with a wide grin.
"...no."
It was the next day, and after the end of the battle yesterday, Neo portaled us back to the campsite. At the time, I was too worn out to care or question why he brought the Werewolf too, but after waking up today, I found him sitting outside my RV.
His slightly longish black hair fell over and partially covered his left eye, while the right part was tucked behind his ear, though it falls over whenever he lets his wolf ears and tail show. His hair was wild and messy at the back, with a cowlick standing up at the top of his head. He had piercing black eyes, had a slender, agile build and a fair complexion.
"That’s too bad...but no matter, I’ll ask again later!" He declared with a smug thumbs up.
"Please, don’t."
He keeps following me around like a puppy, it’s kinda annoying...and the most annoying part is that Dot seems to like him too, she took to him almost immediately. I did think about commanding her to be hostile towards him, but I can’t be that childish or controlling.
"Hey, what’s up?" Came Inoka’s voice, as he approached us.
"Weren’t you busy training with the others?" I asked him.
"Yeah, but I’m done for the day. I was up late working on my Augmentation technique, so I decided to end my training a bit early," He replied, before turning to Fenris, "How are you feeling? You were in pretty bad shape yesterday."
"Much better now, thanks to you, I appreciate the healing!" He responded gratefully, "My own healing capabilities are stronger than a normal Werewolf’s, and close to the level of a Vampire in terms of speed of recovery, though I can’t heal stuff like a crushed heart or decapitated head. Anyway, I’ve rarely ever had to use it before, so I’m not very good at controlling it, especially when it comes to internal injuries. I owe you one!"
"Nah, it’s cool, don’t mention it. So, how long you sticking around here for? I’m guessing you’re probably wanting to get back to your pack, right?" Inquired Inoka, as he sat down on the grass.
"Oh, actually, no. I was kinda exiled from my pack, since my abnormally strong powers and black hair sort of alienated me. So, I came here and have been living alone ever since," He explained in response, before adding with a grin, "And I’ll be staying here for the foreseeable future, so yeah!"
Please just leave instead...
"For real? Any reason in particular?" Inoka asked him curiously.
"Yup, I want to be with my beloved!" He grinned, as he gestured to me.
"Oh?" Responded Inoka with a raised eyebrow, flashing me a slight smirk as he noticed my apprehensive expression, "Well, we’re glad to have you on board, please take good care of our Aurora, and-."
"Could you please not speak for me?" I groaned in annoyance, before turning to Fenris, "And stop talking like we’re already married or something."
"Hm, I suppose you’re right...in that case, fiancé, it is!"
"No."
"No? Alright, then, boyfriend and girlfriend!"
"No."
"...start off as friends?"
"Hm...no," I huffed in response.
"Heh, you paused for a bit, which means...I’ve got a chance!" He declared triumphantly. freewebnovel.cσ๓
...how is he so optimistic?
"You sure you want to do that? The friendzone is a dangerous place, my friend. Those who get trapped in it may never escape," Inoka warned him with a serious look in his eyes.
"I welcome the challenge...I’ll claw my way out of the depths of that accursed zone, no matter what!" He exclaimed dramatically with a look of determination.
"Damn, I’m witnessing a true warrior in my midst right now...best of luck, you brave soul, you!" Responded Inoka in awe.
Uh, what?
"Thank you...it may not be an easy journey, but I won’t give up. If this is the fate I must defy as a consequence of falling in love at first sight, then defy it, I shall!"
No, seriously, what?
"It may not be much, but...I offer you my humble support, o’great warrior!"
"I gratefully accept!"
...what the hell is happening right now?
"This is ridiculous, I’m going back to my RV," I sighed in exasperation, starting to get a headache.
"’Kay, I’ll see you later, Aurora!" Waves Fenris cheerfully.
Talking to him makes me feel like I’ve been standing out in direct sunlight for way too long. He’s way too upbeat...but, every now and then, I get a sense of loneliness and solitude from him, so I couldn’t bring myself to seriously send him away.
Well, the excessive energy aside, he seems nice enough, I guess, plus he really is pretty strong, that much was made clear yesterday. It may have been a full moon, but still, he was definitely stronger than me physically.
Besides him, the only ones who I’ve met with greater physical strength than me are Dracula and Lucifer, so that’s saying a lot. His speed was more or less on par with mine too.
As I headed for my RV while Inoka and Fenris continued chatting, I then stopped as I caught whiff of a new scent, swiftly turning around, to see a portal opening a few meters behind them.
And a split second after I reacted, Fenris stiffened and spun around too, his nose twitching as his wolf ears and tail grew out.
"Please be Neo, please be Neo, please be-...huh? Wait, aren’t you...?" Inquired Inoka with a wary frown, as a young woman stepped out.
She was dripping wet, with purple hair tied up in a ponytail and a weary look on her face.
"Relax, I’m not your enemy anymore," She mumbled with a tired sigh, as Neo stepped out of the portal a second later.
"Uh, hey, why is she here?" Inoka asked Neo with an apprehensive look on his face.
"Yeah, about that...," Responded Neo, before explaining the situation, right as the other three appeared from behind the trees, looking like they were done training.
"Hey, what’s going on?" Inquired Zoraiz curiously, as they walked over.
"Who’s the new girl?" Asked Dieter curiously, as the woman turned her gaze towards him.
"Woah, you really do look just like Petra," She remarked, as she stared at his face.
"Huh? What did you just say?" He responded with a stunned look on his face.
Wait, isn’t that his sister’s name? The one that he, uh...did s-stuff with.
"Ahem, I’m in the middle of explaining the situation," Interrupted Neo, before continuing.
So, based on what he said, this woman, X, was a former member of Eden, but was treated as a tool since she’s an artificial Meta-Human, and having been freed from the effects of a Dark Skill technique called Condition, she escaped and came here, in hopes of joining up with us and freeing Eden’s Outliers.
"Uh, just for the record, I only want to save two of the Outliers in Eden’s grasp. I’d rather never see the other two again, they’re total psychopaths," She sighed apprehensively, as Neo concluded his explanation.
"I have a question!" Blurted out Dieter, who’d looked like he was about to pop a blood vessel this whole time, before turning to X and asking, "My sister, Petra...is she okay? She...she hasn’t been mistreated or anything, has she?"
"No, she’s just fine. Well, she did get on the bad side of a Category 0 after punching him in the face and smacking him with chains, but that guy’s dead now. Oh, right, you should know, she’s mastered the Thought Communication technique in hopes of contacting you," She informed him in response.
"She’s already mastered it? I’ve been working on it for months, and I’m still not quite there yet...I need to hurry," He grimaced as he clenched his fists, before turning around and heading for his RV with a look of determination.
"Hey, you," X suddenly said to Inoka, "Could you heal me? I’ve been in pretty bad shape since yesterday."
"...fine, but let me punch you in the face," He responded after mulling it over.
"Huh? Why?"
"...remember the time you broke my nose? I’ve been meaning to repay the favor ever since then," He remarked icily.
"Seriously? That was forever ago," She sighed in exasperation, before gesturing to her face, "And besides, my nose is already broken."
"The offer is non-negotiable, take it or leave it," He stated firmly.
"Wow, you’re a dick...," She groaned in response, before relenting, "Alright, fine, get the punch over with and then heal m-...gahh!"
Before she could finish, Inoka slammed his fist onto her face with all his strength, sending her flying back and hitting the grass with a thud, as blood gushed out of her nose.
"Damn, you really went for it," Remarked Fenris in bemusement.
"That was kinda brutal...," Grimaced Alexis, as X sat up with a pained groan, looking kinda dazed as her blood ran down her mouth and chin, dripping onto the grass.
"Tch, I was hoping to knock out a few teeth...oh, well," I heard Inoka mutter to himself, before walking over towards her and healing her.
"Well, anyway, I’m heading back now. I’ll bring a couple more RVs here, for her and the Werewolf," Waved Neo dryly, as he opened a portal and walked through, after adding, "Hey, X, send the location of the base you escaped from to me once you’re healed. Get my contact info from one of the others."
"So, guess we’ve got two new people living here now, huh?" Mused Zoraiz, looking intrigued by this new development.
"There, you’re all healed up," Inoka said to X, as he smacked the side of her face with the back of his hand and stood up with a sigh.
"Tch, thanks, asshole."
"You’re welcome, bitch."
Yeah, based on what I’ve seen so far, uh...I’m not too sure that these new additions are going to be a good thing...
