Chapter 137: Chapter 136 - Escape(Part 1)

Point-of-View: X

———————————————————————————

Alright, looks like the coast is clear...time to slip out. I was at the top of the staircase that leads down to the basement cells, and there was no one else in sight.

I stole Trevor’s wallet along with his phone, and he had a fair amount of cash in it. I count ₴50,000, the Ukrainian currency, to be exact. That’s a fair amount. Dunno why he carries so much cash on hand, but hey, it’s super convenient for me right now, so I’m not gonna question it.

I’ve already bought myself a flight ticket to Sri Lanka using his phone, paying by his credit card. I mean, he’s dead now, so it’s not like he’s gonna have any further use for his money.

Once I get to Sri Lanka, I can convert this cash to Sri Lankan rupees. Looking at the exchange rate online, that should get me a solid six hundred thousand rupees or so.

Alright, sounds like a plan. I then snuck out into the corridor, quietly making my way towards the exit. There’s gonna be a couple of guards posted there, I’ll have to kill them.

Ugh, this’d be a lot easier if I wasn’t in so much pain. I have several scrapes and scratches all over my skin, my right forearm was badly fractured, my nose was broken and felt painfully swollen, and my back and lower jaw were aching badly too.

I managed to change into some clean clothes from my cell before leaving, and I picked a long sleeved top and trousers, so most of my injuries were hidden, but my broken nose isn’t gonna be so easily masked.

I’d been tempted to let Miraliz and Petra know what I was upto, but I decided against it...I felt bad, but I had no choice in the matter. If they’re questioned later, their Conditions might force them to reveal everything, so the less they know, the better.

I made sure to bookmark the coordinates of this location in my phone, which should let Neo get here as soon as I find him. Working with that guy isn’t the most thrilling notion, but I have no reason to see him as my enemy now.

Well, except for that one time when he dumped me in the middle of the ocean. Yeah, that really fucking sucked. Grr, I’m starting to get pissed off...maybe I’ll try to get a punch in when I first see him.

Anyway, getting back to my swollen nose...I’ll probably look suspicious when I get to the airport. Guess I’ll have to make up an explanation...oh, I know!

I’ll just say that I tripped and fell on the way! Yeah, there’s no reason not to believe that. Great, I’ve got my excuse...now, to sneak out.

I’m almost at the exit, I’ve passed by a couple of Meta-Humans, but managed to hide before they could spot me. All that time they spent training me is working against them now, I’m quite good at sneaking around thanks to that training.

Unfortunately, not even I can sneak past guards standing by a closed door, so I’m gonna have to kill them-...oh, or maybe not. frёeωebɳovel.com

There’s only one guard for once...and he’s fast asleep. I looked around warily to make sure no one else is around, before sneaking forward, and slowly twisting the door handle. It’s not locked, they probably see no reason to since no enemy’s ever found this place till Anarchy showed up yesterday.

And a locked door won’t stop someone with a portal user on their side, so yeah. Anyway, with this, I’m free-...!...oh, crap... ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"What’s the matter? We’ve still got some time left for our shift, close the d-...," Began someone on the other side, before trailing off as they turned their gaze this way, exclaiming, Wha-!? Why are you here, get back to your c-...argh!"

I quickly cut him off by jamming a dagger through the spot between his eyes, killing him before yanking it out with a twist. Damn it, I should have figured one guard would be posted outside after what happened yesterday.

Unfortunately, his brief, and loud, outburst woke up the other guard, who sat up with a start and looked around drowsily...

"Huh, wha-...? Wait, why is the door op-...?" He started to mutter, before I swiftly covered his mouth with my right hand and slit open his throat with my dagger.

I then stiffened as I heard footsteps approaching from the corridor inside...and on impulse, I quickly turned around and ran away at top speed...I am not getting caught after coming this far, not now!

This base was built underground, with the entrance inside a huge tree, which had been carved out into a tunnel. I raced up the tunnel and leapt out, before zipping past the trees and shrubbery as fast as I could.

I remember the route we took to get to the airport yesterday, I just need to get to the main road and then get a taxi to the airport. Once I’m there, I’ll be home free, I doubt they’ll attack me in such a public, crowded spot.

But if they catch up to me before that...then that’ll probably be it for me. Well, depending on who they send, that is. Fortunately, there aren’t any other Category 0s present in this base besides Trevor.

"Hey! Stop running, you bitch! Get back here!" Suddenly came a voice from behind me, as someone rapidly shot towards me from the tree.

Tch, a Physical Skill user, huh? I activated my Nullification as he began to close in on me, eliciting a cry of alarm as he speed abruptly dropped, the sharp decrease causing him to lose his balance and fall on his face with a thud.

Without the use of powers, there aren’t many people who can catch up with my on foot. Even with my back in so much pain, along with several other sore spots that were painfully screaming out right now, I wasn’t too much slower than usual.

There, I see it, the main road! And I don’t hear anyone approaching from behind. I leapt out of the woods and raced across the pavement, halting and sticking my arm out as I saw a taxi approaching, hailing it down.

"To the airport, please!" I exclaimed, as I hopped into the back seat.

"Er, yes, okay...are you okay, miss?" He frowned with a look of concern.

"Y-yeah, I’m just late for my flight! My, uh, husband already left with our luggage, I overslept and ended up falling, I can’t afford to be late, you see," I responded as naturally as possible, putting on a wry smile on my face.

"Ah, I see...alright then, I’ll get you there as soon as possible...without breaking any laws, of course, haha!"

"Oh, of course!" I responded with a fake laugh...maybe breaking the laws just a little bit won’t hurt?

Probably shouldn’t say that though.

Just to make sure, I used Appraisal and glanced at the driver as he began driving us towards the airport, letting out a quiet sigh of relief as I saw no Aura around him.

Just as he promised, he got me to the airport pretty fast, so I paid him a little extra for the fare, before heading for the entrance eagerly, keeping an eye out for any Meta-Humans, by using Appraisal.

I don’t see any, not within sight anyway. No time to get paranoid, I need to hurry. There’s still plenty of time before my flight is scheduled to depart, but I’ll feel a lot better once I’ve finished checking in and am at the gate.

It’s pretty crowded in here, which is good...I’m not exactly the most inconspicuous person, with my hair dyed purple and all, not to mention my badly swollen nose, which was leading to a lot of people staring at me, but with this big a crowd, even I can blend in to some extent.

I managed to check in without a problem, though I did get some bemused looks at my lack of any luggage, plus my now-very swollen nose was definitely catching people’s attention.

One of the staff offered to provide some first-aid after that, which I gratefully accepted. Once my messed up nose was taken care of, I headed for the gate, waiting impatiently to board the plane.

It felt like I was waiting forever, fidgeting while my gaze darted about nervously, a sense of paranoia growing more intense with every passing minute. But eventually, I boarded the flight, and finally letting out a dramatic sigh of relief as we departed, the plane rising up into the air.

I put up a huge Nullification barrier around the plane, just in case...I’m probably being overly cautious, but having come this far, having finally grasped some semblance of freedom after so many years, I’m taking absolutely no chances whatsoever.

No matter what, Eden will never sink their claws into me ever again, I’d rather die that become their pawn again...
