Chapter 129: Chapter 128 - Poison
Point-of-View: Alexis Tucker
———————————————————————————
Ugh, yesterday was absolutely horrible...thank goodness for Inoka and his healing powers, because I was in excruciating pain, but thanks to him, all that pain is gone now. Well, that said, he was probably in way, way more pain than I was.
He got his arm sliced off and his chest caved in...and still managed to basically create a new Light Skill technique during that fight.
"I have to admit, you were pretty awesome yesterday...I bet you’re the only one in the world who can say that he’s boned Lucifer," I laughed, while playing a game of cards with the others.
"I already made that pun, cut it out. But that said, praise me more," He grinned, as he shifted the cards in his hand around.
"Honestly, you really did have a big impact...I noticed he was a lot slower and weaker, physically anyway, towards the end of that fight. I didn’t really understand why at first, but it must have been because you injected your light energy into his body through your bones," Remarked Aurora, as she set down a card, before adding sheepishly, "But, well, I still ended up losing, sorry. I guess I wasted your efforts."
"It’s not your fault, that bastard was insanely powerful...did you guys get a look at his Aura? It was even more immense that yours, Aurora," Chimed in Zoraiz objectively, "If he’d gone all out right from the start, we’d have been totally screwed."
"Yeah, we’re lucky he underestimated us at the start. By the way, speaking of going all out, I know we’ve been training at fighting alongside you, but we’ve still got a lot of room for improvement on that front, so I hope we didn’t hold you back," I said to Aurora apologetically.
"Are you kidding me? You definitely didn’t...in fact, each time you guys intervened, your timing was perfect. I noticed how you made sure that you had clear openings before blasting him with those big lightning attacks. And Inoka, that Blast Rain technique you used was great too, that really helped me corner him," Replied Aurora with a thumbs up, "And besides, I need to get used to fighting alongside others too."
"I just hope we never run into Lucifer again," Sighed Zoraiz wistfully.
"Well, I’ll probably have to...Neo told me that the higher ups want me to face off against him again the next time he shows up, since I’ve already fought him once," Remarked Aurora, looking a bit apprehensive about that.
"I mean, he’ll probably be gone by the time Neo portals you there, you know. First off, Chaos will probably put up an Anti-Teleportation Field, and there’s also the fact that Demons can’t use their powers as they please in the living world, otherwise they won’t be able to sustain themselves and will end up getting pulled back into Hell," I informed her...yeah, ever since I heard about what happened in Hungary, I’ve been reading up on Demi-Humans, Demons and Angels.
I mean, I might as well learn as much as I can, right?
"Wow, so in addition to holding back due to underestimating us, he was also restrained by the limitations of being in the living world? That doesn’t make me feel any better," Sighed Aurora wryly.
"Oh, yeah, come to think of it, he didn’t use his Skills that much till the latter part of the fight, he mostly used that gravity field and telekinesis-...no, never mind, those are probably Space Skill techniques," Remarked Inoka, correcting himself.
"Actually, I don’t think so. I asked Neo to get me some records of Demons and other beings, and I looked up the records on Lucifer. He doesn’t have the Space Skill, he’s got four Skills, Dark, Pyro, Aero and Aqua. Demons possess upto five Skills, one of which is guaranteed to be the Dark Skill, plus a number of other random abilities that don’t really fall under any classification. They might be similar to abilities from certain Skills, but that doesn’t mean that the Demon possesses that Skill.
Incidentally, Angels have similar power sets, with a guaranteed Light Skill, which makes sense, since Satan basically followed the same model, but inversed, that God uses to create Angels when he defected, became a Fallen Angel, and then created Hell and the Demons. Incidentally, when Satan turns an Angel into a Fallen Angel, their abilities often change, starting with their Light Skill changing to the Dark Skill," I explained, recalling what I’d read.
"Huh...so, that’s how it works," Mused Zoraiz in response, before asking me, "Oh, yeah, did you find out how to kill a Demon?"
"Yup, you have to destroy their cores. And the more powerful they are, the smaller their cores, which they can freely move around inside their bodies. Aurora, did you see something like a glowing red orb when you tore Lucifer apart? It was probably really small," I said hopefully.
"No, sorry, I didn’t see anything like that. I mean, there was so much blood, so I don’t think it would have been possible to spot something red," She replied sheepishly.
"Yeah, I guess that makes sense. By the way...how exactly did Chaos know where we were, anyway? Neo seemed concerned about that too," I frowned thoughtfully.
"A spy, maybe?" Suggested Dieter objectively.
"But very few people are supposed to know about this place, right? The only ones here besides us, Kiyana and Mike are the people building the base inside the waterfall, and only a handful of others including the higher ups know where we are. But they’ve all been kept under strict surveillance," Recalled Inoka in response.
"Maybe someone planted a listening device or something, like maybe on one of the RVs?" Suggested Zoraiz, though he didn’t sound very convinced.
"I mean, I can’t think of a better explanation, but I don’t know, it seems unlikely and a bit far-fetched," I mused objectively.
"Yeah, I know, I was just throwing the possibility out there," He shrugged in response.
Someone then knocked on the door, before it opened and Kiyana poked her head in...
"Hey, you guys. Mind if I join you?" She asked with a smile.
"You don’t need to ask, you know. We’re almost done with this game, shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes," Replied Inoka, as he scooted over and patted the spot next to him, prompting her to join us.
"Great, thanks," She responded, as she walked in and sat down next to him.
"You all rested up? You looked pretty tired when Neo brought you here," I remarked...she does look a lot more rested than she did before.
She’d been supposed to join us next week, since she still had some work to finish. But Mike’s kinda in trouble since he took us to that town, which had been almost completely burnt down, so they brought her in early...after commanding her to wrap up all her pending work within a couple of hours.
She looked incredibly worn out and exhausted when Neo brought her here, and went to sleep almost immediately after she arrived.
"Yeah, I feel good as new. And it feels great knowing that I’m not stuck with a ton of work here," She sighed in relief.
"You were seriously overworked back there, you always seemed overwhelmed and stressed. Even during your breaks, you seemed pretty drained," Recalled Inoka wryly.
"Huh? Was I really?" She responded sheepishly.
"You definitely were, I noticed on the very first day I got there," Spoke up Aurora with a nod.
"Oh, that’s right, whenever I offered you a drink before, you almost always refused since you had more work waiting for you. There’s no such excuse now," Grinned Inoka, standing up and walking over to his fridge, before taking out a bunch of beer cans.
"Dude, it’s only 11 AM," I sighed in exasperation.
"So, what? It’s not like we’re getting blackout drunk, just a beer or two each," He shrugged in response.
Oh, so he plans to drink at least two cans. He then handed a can to Kiyana, who accepted it with a wry smile, before also giving one to Aurora and Zoraiz.
"Uh, I don’t really like how alcohol tastes, so...," Frowned Aurora, as she stared at the can apprehensively.
"Same here, but just power through the nasty taste and wait for the effects to kick in, that’s what drinking is about," Remarked Zoraiz, as he cracked open his can and took a gulp, his expression souring a bit as he swallowed it.
"Well, I guess one won’t hurt," Relented Aurora with a sigh. freёweɓnovel.com
Hm...I don’t wanna be left out...
"Hey, um...can I have one too? I mean, I am eighteen now," I requested sheepishly.
"Legal drinking age here is twenty-one, though," Smirked Inoka in response.
"So? Zoraiz isn’t twenty-one," I pointed out.
"Yeah, but he’s drank before, so it doesn’t count."
"That makes no sense. Come on, stop being a dick and let me have one," I grumbled.
"Alright, fine...here, catch," He grinned, as he tossed me a can.
I caught it and then cracked it open with a gulp...this’ll be my first taste of alcohol, let’s see how it-...ugh, oh wow, that’s nasty...
"Try not to get too drunk, guys. You’ll be useless if, by chance, Lucifer suddenly shows up again," Remarked Dieter with a lazy yawn, as I swallowed the sip I’d taken with a shudder, almost gagging.
That really does taste awful. I slowly took another sip, a bit bigger this time, before quickly gulping it down. So bitter...oh, but I think I’m feeling something.
"Not a problem...alcohol is kind of a poison, so my Light Skill can help sober people up," Responded Inoka with a thumbs up, before adding with a shrug, "And besides, there’s no way he’ll attack the same country in a span of three days!"
