"Aurora, let him go. We can’t afford to harm the boy’s body," Liling reminded her.
"I know, sorry. My body just moved on its own when he got too close," Came the response, as Aurora dissipated her shadowy arm, dropping him onto the floor.
"Scary, you might be even more powerful that I initially estimated," Smirked Beelzebub, as he got back on his feet and brushed off the dust on his clothes.
"Hey, let’s just lock this guy up till he can’t possess this body anymore. I’m guessing that using any powers would shorten the amount of time in which he can maintain his possession," Remarked Kechik with a frown.
"How very astute of you. But I don’t like the sound of that, so if you do it, I just might end up killing this body in retaliation," Countered Beelzebub smugly.
"Tch, bastard...," Muttered Kechik in response.
"I don’t feel at all comfortable with just leaving him here to do as he pleases though," Growled Aurora, still looking pretty aggressive.
"Oh, calm down, I don’t plan on instigating anything else. I just wanna see how this all turns out, that’s all," He replied with a shrug.
"Hey, guys, don’t you think it’s time we discussed how to approach the Werewolves? After all, they’re victims in this situation too, and they haven’t yet killed anyone, so it’d be kinda wrong to kill them, if you ask me," I spoke up.
"Yes, I agree. However, since two children in their pack were killed, appeasing them won’t be easy," Frowned Liling in response.
"Too bad we can’t just turn this guy over to them and let them do what they want to him, since this isn’t his body," I sighed wistfully.
"At the very least, they’ll probably ask for the heads of the men who killed the young Werewolves. I really don’t see them agreeing to just drop it," Added Kechik thoughtfully.
"True, simply explaining what happened won’t be enough to quell their rage, not by a long shot. Regardless of whether it was a misunderstanding or not, the fact remains that two members of their pack were killed in cold blood," Nodded Liling in agreement.
"In that case...we first try explaining the situation anyway. It’s highly unlikely, but not impossible that they’ll understand...and if they still want to kill, then we drive them back using force, without killing them," Suggested Aurora, following a brief silence.
"That’s a pretty naive and optimistic way to go about it, you really think it’ll work out so easily?" Scoffed Beelzebub in response.
"Hate to agree with a Demon, but he’s got a point. Fighting against the likes of Werewolves while making sure not to kill them will only put our own lives at risk, and I’m not willing to-," Began Kechik.
"Then shut up and stay back, you insufferable shithead, I’ll do it alone if I have to," Interrupted Aurora icily.
Woah, she just said shithead...she hardly ever uses coarse language, that surprised me.
"Ho?" Responded Beelzebub with a look of intrigue, raising an eyebrow.
"Tch, don’t get cocky...I don’t care how immense your Aura is, if you really think you can-," Kechik started to shoot back.
"I don’t think I can, I know I can," She cut him off curtly, before turning to Liling and me, "That said, afterwards, I’ll need your Light Skills to undo any negative effects inflicted by my Dark Skill."
"Sure, you got it, no problem," I replied with a thumbs up.
"You can count on me too. Now, then, we might as well head out right away. No sense in putting it off any longer," Remarked Liling, standing up with a sigh.
"I’m coming too! I want to see what happens with my own eyes-," Began Beelzebub.
"You’re not going anywhere. Hey, you, stay back and make sure he stays put," Aurora said to Kechik.
"Huh? You’re not the boss of me, why should I-...!?" He began to snap in response.
"I’m in charge of this mission, and I’ll make the same request. Don’t let Beelzebub leave this place," Instructed Liling firmly.
"...fine, whatever," He grumbled irritably.
"Aw, that’s no fun. Well, I guess it’s okay, I can still sense what’s happening, after all. I just figured it’d be more satisfying to actually see it," Sighed Beelzebub, as he layed down on the couch and took a phone out of his pocket.
"Okay, you two, let’s get going," Remarked Liling, as she headed for the exit, Aurora and I following after her.
We headed down the stairs and out of the house, before making our way towards the woods behind the village, entering the forest cautiously. Aurora took the lead, her ears perked up and her nose twitching as she warily glanced about as we made our way through the foliage.
There were a few broken branches and beaten down bushes in the path we were going in, probably done by the villagers when they went to ambush the Werewolves.
"Hey, question, do Werewolves have good senses? Because if so, how could normal humans sneak up on them?" I inquired curiously.
"It’s not impossible. Assuming their senses are similar to mine...if they were downwind, then the Werewolves could’ve failed to notice them. Additionally, they’ve probably lived here for a long time with no contact with normal humans, so they wouldn’t have had any reason to have their guards up. And then there’s the fact that the ones killed were children...maybe their senses aren’t as developed or something," Reasoned Aurora, a slight grimace on her face...she looks a bit antsy, is she getting nervous?
Guess I can’t blame her, if worst comes to worst, then she might be forced to kill a bunch of innocent, and justifiably enraged, people...I certainly don’t wanna be in her shoes right now.
We continued on for a while, making our way through what seemed like never-ending greenery, until Aurora suddenly halted, holding up her arm to signal to us to stop too.
"What is it? Do you sense something?" Inquired Liling quietly.
"Yeah. I can smell them...and look at the plants and soil around here, it’s clear that some of them have been cleared out," She whispered in reply.
Huh? I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to be looking for here...well, she did spend about one and a half decades living in the wild, so I guess she’d know these things.
"Do you sense anyone nearby?" I asked her.
"No, not presently. But it shouldn’t be long before I do if we keep heading this way."
"Then let’s keep going," Said Liling.
And so, we continued on, though a bit slower than before, with Aurora looking a lot more cautious than she was earlier.
The longer we headed in, the more I was starting to get pretty nervous myself too. We don’t even know how many of them there are...regardless of how powerful Aurora is, if she’s too heavily outnumbered, holding back and avoiding killing them might be too risky even for her.
"Just up ahead...I’m getting multiple scents, and I can hear voices too," She suddenly stopped and informed us, as a gentle breeze blew this way.
"Really? I can’t hear a thing," I frowned, turning my ears forward with my hands but couldn’t pick any sounds up.
"Let’s go," Said Liling, as Aurora nodded and continued leading the way.
Before long, they came into view...a clearing by a cavernous cliff, with a small, clear stream running out from one of the caves. There were several people there, wearing dried animal skin leather outfits that had kinda crude but firm stitches holding them together.
They all had slightly varying shades of grey hair, and they seemed pretty strongly built. But most notably, they all had fluffy ears on their heads and bushy tails...awesome.
Some of them seemed to be sparring against each other, and the atmosphere around them was pretty grim. Yeah, they’re probably preparing to go massacre the village tonight.
"Let’s approach them. They might get the wrong idea if they find us hiding," Whispered Liling quietly.
"Yeah, I’ll go first, in case they attack the moment they see us," Responded Aurora, before standing up and walking out into the open.
Almost instantly, a dead silence ensued as every Werewolf in sight stiffened up and turned towards her, some of them looking wary, while others looked straight up aggressive.
"Who are you!?"
"Stay back, or you’re dead!"
Well, not the most warm welcome, but at least they didn’t attack her...
"Calm down. I’m only here to talk. We’ve found out exactly why what happened, happened. Are you willing to at least hear me out and listen to what I have to say?" Responded Aurora in a calm, non-confrontational tone.
"Let’s go out too. If they find us now, they’ll probably assume that she’s tricking them," Whispered Liling.
"Yeah, got it."
The two of us then stood and stepped out, standing behind Aurora as the Werewolves tensed up as they saw us...I have a bad feeling that this is gonna get really messy... freewёbnoνel.com
