Chapter 99: Chapter 69: The 4th Person
She was clearly the fastest one to rush over when Sean woke up.
The cabin’s window was only so big. The Bell Ringer was squeezed to the outer edge.
"Nothing unpleasant happened in the dream, right?" Kate asked, shooting Sopea a hostile look.
"No, no," Sean said. "We had a very pleasant time in the dream."
"Really?" Kate wasn’t convinced. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Elise said half-jokingly, "If you’re being threatened, just blink. There are a lot of us; we’re not afraid of him."
Hearing this warmed Sean’s heart. It had been a long time since friends had cared for him this much... or rather, it had been a long time since he’d had any friends at all.
Konina used to be one.
But now that he had become a Wizard, he couldn’t contact his old friends anymore.
After the Black Fruit Rainforest incident, Konina had sent him quite a few text messages, but he’d played dead and never replied, hoping Konina would really think he was dead. It was better for everyone that way.
But humans are social creatures, after all, and after being alone for so long, it was inevitable to feel lonely. Now that he had a new group of friends, Sean was very happy. He was especially happy thinking about how he would soon reach Tier Three and could play ’It Takes Two’ with his sister-in-law.
"Really, nothing unpleasant happened. Mr. Sopea was very responsible," Sean explained. "I was just the one making a lot of requests, wanting to stay in the dream a little longer. That’s why I slept until now."
"If you don’t believe me, ask him yourselves."
Kate was actually planning to do just that.
Elvire also wanted to thoroughly "interrogate" Sopea.
She was still giving Sean the cold shoulder, so she wasn’t about to talk to that guy directly.
But when the two of them turned to look for Sopea, he was gone.
Kate: "?"
He had just glanced at the man a moment ago. How could he have vanished in the time it took to say a few words?
"Sopea, where are you? Come out!"
He shouted, thinking to himself, ’Don’t tell me that old geezer fled because he’s guilty?’
No one answered him.
In reality, Sopea hadn’t left.
With so many people here, he would have had to use Magic to leave, and the moment he used Magic, he would definitely be discovered. Flame Crow and the others were no rookie Wizards. Besides, he wasn’t proficient in escape Magic, so there was no way he could have slipped past them. He had simply gone to do what he needed to do and merely didn’t want to deal with this disrespectful Light Attendant.
The group looked left and right, searching high and low, but couldn’t find him.
Just as Kate was about to "convict" Sopea, Sopea himself reappeared in everyone’s line of sight.
He had gone behind the small cabin.
From Elvire and the others’ perspective, it was a blind spot.
There was a water cooler in the corner. He had gone to get Sean a cup of water.
Right at that moment, Sean also came out of the cabin. It seemed his ’service’ was over, and he could come out for some fresh air.
And so, the group saw Sopea holding a paper cup, walk up to Sean, present it to him with both hands, and say gently, "Mr. Sean, drink plenty of hot water."
Sean: "..."
Kate: "?"
Bell Ringer: "?"
Elvire & Elise: "?"
The two women subconsciously wanted to mock what a typical clueless-guy thing that was to say, but they held back, because that wasn’t the main point at all.
The main point was Sopea’s tone.
Who was Sopea?
He was someone who had achieved a Breakthrough from Tier Five to Tier Six after less than half a month in seclusion.
He was also the first Wizard in the Imaginary Number Space to enter the 3rd Floor of the Holy Hall openly and legitimately.
He usually looked down his nose at everyone, and Elvire and the others were no exception. So how could one session of Entering the Dream make him suddenly so gentle?
They had never heard the high and mighty Mr. Dream Builder speak in such a tone.
His actions were strange, too.
It wasn’t just his words; the minor details of his actions could also reveal a person’s attitude toward another.
Someone as proud as Sopea was actually using both hands to pass the paper cup to Sean?
Koni, next to him, behaved even more "humbly." She kept her head down the entire time, not even daring to look at Sean.
The air suddenly became exceptionally quiet.
Sean laughed it off, taking the paper cup. "Mr. Sopea, you’re too kind. I don’t know how I can thank you for this."
"No need, no need," Sopea said hurriedly. "It’s what I should do."
Never mind the Sean in the dream; the Sean outside the dream rarely had lucid dreams. He really needed to rest well after waking up, and drinking some hot water would help him recover.
But even if that was the logic, when he said this with such a humble expression, the looks from Elvire and the others grew even stranger. Especially after pouring the hot water for Sean, Sopea then took his young apprentice and stood respectfully behind Sean, looking for all the world like a manservant and his daughter who was soon to be a Maid.
Kate and the Bell Ringer stared at each other dumbly, seeing the utter confusion in each other’s eyes.
Something was wrong.
The more they looked, the more wrong it felt.
That afternoon at the town entrance, the two of them had nearly come to blows with Sopea. They had personally experienced the old geezer’s temper. He’d even said he was there specifically to cause trouble for Sean, completely fearless.
But now...??
The two of them looked at the master and apprentice standing quietly behind Sean as if they were seeing a ghost. Was this old geezer putting on a talent show, demonstrating the meaning of a complete one-eighty?
Elvire was also a bit dumbfounded.
To be honest, she had considered many possibilities.
For example, Sean getting taught a lesson in the dream and waking up mentally scarred, or not waking up at all... She had made corresponding preparations for these outcomes. Worst case, she would just fight Sopea. After all, she could temporarily achieve a Breakthrough, and no one was going to touch her person under her watch. Anyone who tried would pay the price.
To be more dramatic, she had even figured out which psychiatrist to hire for Sean, or which cemetery plot with good feng shui to buy.
The only thing she hadn’t expected was this situation right before her eyes.
You didn’t need to think to know that something must have happened in the dream.
Sopea probably knew Sean from a past life; maybe Sean’s past self was even Sopea’s past self’s superior.
The problem was, they weren’t part of the same organization as Sopea. Although they often ran into him in the Imaginary Number Space, they didn’t know anything about Sopea’s past life experiences. Thus, there was no way to deduce Sean’s identity, as not every Wizard uses their name from their previous life.
Elvire was already very curious about Sean’s past life.
Now, after this whole scene, she was even more curious.
Elvire couldn’t help but poke Elise, signaling for her to ask.
She still remembered that she "didn’t want" to talk to Sean.
Actually, even without the poke, Elise wanted to ask herself. Unable to hold it in, she blurted out, "What on earth did you dream about?"
Sean didn’t play dumb.
Everyone here was smart. The more he played dumb, the more suspicion he would arouse. A complete lie wouldn’t fool anyone; it had to be half-truth, half-lie to be believable.
So, Sean cleared his throat and put on a serious expression.
"Everyone, to be perfectly honest, Mr. Sopea, Miss Koni, and I... we did indeed encounter something major."
"This dream was supposed to have only the three of us being lucid, but then a fourth party joined."
Everyone: "?"
What do you mean, a fourth party?
Sean was dead serious. "You can think of it as the dreamscape Mr. Sopea built for me being invaded by someone else."
The Bell Ringer frowned. "There’s someone who can invade your dream?"
Sopea is a Dream Master, and he has the power of a Tier Six. Who would be capable of invading a dreamscape constructed by Sopea?
The first thing Elvire thought of was a Witch Hunter.
A High-tier Witch Hunter, like Zajik.
She couldn’t help but narrow her eyes.
She still hadn’t settled the score with the Florist Family over Sean, and now someone else was coming to stir up trouble? Did they really think she was a pushover?
A faint trace of killing intent emanated from the young woman.
You could tell she was truly angry.
But Sean, on the contrary, found this side of her quite cute. freēwēbnovel.com
The Bell Ringer and Elise’s expressions also became grim. In their intelligence network, there was no Wizard who surpassed Sopea in the dream domain. If there was, they must have deliberately hidden their strength and were most likely an enemy.
Only Kate remained calm.
He was also thinking.
He was simply remembering his teacher Adelf’s words: as a High-tier Wizard and a mature man, one must always appear calm and composed. That was the only way to be worthy of his status and age.
Until Sean finally spoke: "This person is none other than the creator of the Holy Sanctuary, Lord Carl Black!"
"He told me to tell you all that he will appear again at the next Dawn Conference."
Kate: "Holy shit!"
