Chapter 104: Chapter 71: "Elvire’s Identity

There was only one option left.

Kate asked, "Did Lord Blake tell you who stole the book?"

Sean composed himself and answered calmly, "Me."

Kate: "?"

Sean had completely thrown him for a loop. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"Was it really you? Don’t joke around," Kate said.

This was no small matter.

But Sean said, "I’m not joking. I really am the one who took the Book of Ancient Language."

Kate didn’t understand. "Wait, if you wanted to read a book, you could have just gone and done it openly. Why did you have to steal it?"

Sean retorted, "Why does it have to be called ’stealing’?"

"The Holy Sanctuary has clear rules: you can’t just take books out of the library, and even if you do, you can’t have them for more than three days. You took the Book of Ancient Language—for that, even one day would be too long," Kate said. "If that’s not following the rules, what is it but stealing?"

Sean played another card. "Then what if Lord Blake was the one who told me to steal it?"

Kate: "?"

"You’ve got to be kidding!"

Kate thought Sean was talking complete nonsense. "Lord Blake would tell you to steal a book?"

"What, you think I’m lying?" Thinking Kate didn’t believe him, Sean played his trump card, vouching for himself.

But to his surprise, Kate slammed his hand on the table so hard that the egg tarts on his plate bounced. With a look of indignation, he said, "What is wrong with you? Lord Blake gave you this task because he trusts you, and you turn around and say he told you to steal a book! I can see you don’t get it at all. When it concerns Lord Blake, can you even call it stealing?"

Sean: "?"

’Weren’t you the one who just called it "stealing"?’

The switch was so fast Sean almost couldn’t keep up.

How was it that Kate, a big-shot CEO, was just like Sopea, changing his tune in the blink of an eye? After that whole tirade, it had somehow become Sean’s fault.

Sean was both annoyed and amused. "Are all you older folks like this?"

’The moment things look bad, you immediately switch sides.’

Kate put on the air of a big brother, lecturing Sean, "Watch your wording from now on. You must be polite to Lord Blake."

Sean: "..."

"Boss, we’re done here!" Kate called out loudly.

He was perfectly composed, as if he and Sean hadn’t discussed a thing.

As long as he wasn’t the one feeling awkward, the awkwardness would fall squarely on Sean.

As they left the pizza shop, Kate asked nonchalantly, "Are you going to the meeting next week?"

Technically, Sean wasn’t qualified yet. Tier Two was too low. The minimum requirement to attend the meeting was Tier Four, along with the trust and approval of at least half the members. After all, they generally discussed important matters in these meetings, so they had to eliminate any possibility of a mole in their midst.

But given that Sean, like him, was someone Lord Blake favored, he could ask his teacher, Adelf, to help out, maybe leak some relevant information and open a back door for Sean.

But Sean shook his head. "Forget it. Let’s stick to the rules. I don’t want to ruin your or Lord Blake’s reputation because of me. We can talk about it when I reach Tier Four."

’There’s no way I can go. Otherwise, how am I supposed to get into the statue and act as Lord Blake?’

"All right." Kate admired Sean’s principles. "If Lord Blake mentions you during the meeting, I’ll let you know."

The two chatted as they walked.

Kate had an early flight to catch, so he had to get back to his hotel and pack. He still had a lot of unfinished business to handle at his company.

Sean was also very busy. For the next few days, he had to go to the church for his part-time job as a Priest, so he could only take the Magic Potion at night to test his body’s resilience.

He only had three bottles of the Magic Potion from the Witch left. He needed to finish the prep work quickly and raise his Magic Power to Tier Three, which would qualify him to learn the Fallen Nether Technique. Furthermore, a Tier Three Wizard had enough self-preservation ability to not fear ordinary firearms. At that point, he could go out and reclaim the money the Florist Family had scammed out of him.

’Zajik would never imagine that I’ve also learned Puppetry Art.’

And so, the two busy men parted ways at the crossroads, each heading home.

But as soon as Sean arrived at the hospital, he received another text from Kate.

He had thought it was from Elvire, and his brief moment of excitement was wasted.

"There’s one more thing I forgot to tell you," Kate’s text read.

Sean texted back irritably, "You’re so much trouble."

Kate replied, "Isn’t this for your own good?"

Sean: "Just spit it out. I need to take my potions."

Kate asked, "Do you know about Elvire’s family background?"

Sean: "What do you mean?"

"Her older sister is the eldest daughter of the Blazing Angel Family," Kate texted, "and one of the few women Lord Blake has ever had in his life."

Sean didn’t get it. "And?"

Kate continued, "In other words, Lord Blake is Elvire’s brother-in-law, and Elvire is his wife’s younger sister. If you really have designs on Elvire, you’ll have to get past Lord Blake first."

"And forgive me for being blunt, but I don’t think you’ll succeed."

"That’s it?" Sean had thought Elvire had some other identity he didn’t know about. He asked, puzzled, "Haven’t I already earned Lord Blake’s approval?"

Kate’s message appeared: "That’s different."

Approving of a person’s Talent and potential is completely different from approving of them as your brother-in-law.

He gave an example to help Sean understand.

Suppose he, Kate, had a wife’s younger sister, and at the same time, a highly capable subordinate. He was so close to this subordinate that he considered him a brother. Then one day, his brother suddenly tells him that he’s taken a liking to his sister-in-law. Guess what he would do?

"What would you do?" Sean asked.

Kate: "I’d break both his legs!"

’The absolute nerve! I treat you like a brother, and you want to become my brother-in-law?’

Sean: "..."

"It can’t be that serious, can it?"

"You’ll get it when you have a sister-in-law of your own." Kate didn’t elaborate, leaving it at that. "I’m just giving you a heads-up. Don’t ruin your relationship with Lord Blake over this."

Everyone faces all sorts of choices in life, and often, you can’t have both love and a promising future. Kate was genuinely looking out for Sean. No matter what Sean chose, he hoped it would turn out well for him.

He could only say these things now.

If Sean really did end up fighting with Lord Blake over this, he definitely wouldn’t be able to help.

Sean thought about it carefully and realized Kate’s words actually made some sense.

’It wasn’t that it couldn’t be that serious. It was very, very serious.’

Because he really did have a lovely sister-in-law.

’If he found someone hitting on Elvire, he’d probably slap a Truth Technique on their face on the spot and make the guy solve its puzzle first—what kind of qualifications did this guy have to even think about pursuing his sister-in-law?’

So the problem Kate described definitely existed.

Unfortunately, he himself was the brother-in-law in question.

’Besides, who said I even liked Elvire?’

’He just wanted to cultivate with the girl so they could help each other achieve greatness.’

’As family, that’s a completely normal thing to do.’

Whether anyone else believed it or not, Sean himself certainly did.

He had a clear conscience and feared no slander.

And if his shadow *was* crooked, it was only because the light was at the wrong angle.

Sean texted Kate back telling him to get some rest, then stopped replying. After washing up in the bathroom, he took the Magic Potions from his drawer, downed them one by one, and lay down in bed to sleep.

These were potions that would cost a normal Wizard half their life with a single sip, but Sean, wanting to save time, chugged all three remaining bottles at once.

And so, Sean slept especially soundly that night.

He woke up the next day brimming with energy and feeling fantastic.

So much so that Lante and Charles, who had come specifically to check on him, were stunned.

"Is your body made of iron??" Charles stared at Sean’s body as if he were seeing a ghost. He was completely unscathed?

Even iron wasn’t this durable!

’So he’s truly immune to all poisons, huh?’

Lante, however, was pleasantly surprised, a hint of fanaticism resurfacing in his eyes. "Mr. Sean, you are truly worthy of being the one Miss Flame Crow has taken an interest in. Your body is indeed extraordinary."

Sean: "..."

"That could be taken the wrong way."

’Elvire would probably flip out if she heard that.’

"Not important." Lante didn’t care about such minor details. At this moment, he only had eyes for Sean.

He took the already-concocted High-Intensity Gold Forging Potion from his bag, his eyes shining.

He had said this bottle of Magic Potion could allow Sean to have a Breakthrough on the spot, no Meditation required. The only worry was whether Sean’s body could withstand such a potent dose, and Sean had already answered that question with his actions—he could.

In that case—

"Next, let us witness a miracle!"
