Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Audience of One
"I’m always watching your back, man," whispered Marcus, his grin widening into a sharp, teasing smirk. "Nah, just kidding. I was actually following a freshman girl I liked, but then I saw you walking in here with that predatory look on your face. There was no way I was missing the drama."
Alexander didn’t blink, his tall frame remaining perfectly relaxed as he kept his eyes locked on Lilly across the room. "You have terrible timing, Marcus."
"Come on, tell me," urged Marcus, leaning closer into his personal space, his voice barely a breath against the heavy silence of the library. "How are you going to convince her to just be your fuck-buddy and keep playing with the rest of the rotation? Sophie is literally out for blood today. I saw her face in the hallway earlier."
"I don’t know," stated Alexander, a faint, dangerous smirk touching his lips as he adjusted his jacket. "I’ll just go talk to her and see how things develop."
"Have fun, then," said Marcus, giving him a respectful nod before gesturing toward a study table about twenty feet away from the main counter. "I’ll be watching the whole show from right over there."
Alexander raised an eyebrow, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. "Weren’t you supposedly looking for another piece of ass to follow?" freewebnσvel.cøm
"Ass is everywhere, Alex," whispered Marcus with a low chuckle, already stepping backward toward the desks. "But I wouldn’t miss this specific performance for anything in the world."
Alexander let out a low, silent grunt, dismissing his friend with a slight tilt of his head. He didn’t care about an audience. He adjusted his stance, turned away from the bookshelves, and walked smoothly toward the reception desk, his heavy sneakers making absolutely no sound on the carpeted floor.
Lilly was still focused on her work, her slender fingers sliding a heavy volume into a wooden cart. As Alexander’s large shadow completely fell over the desk, she instinctively looked up.
The moment her eyes landed on his tall, imposing frame, her face instantly went through a rapid succession of emotions. Shock, panic, and then a deep, burning flush that spread rapidly from her neck all the way to her cheeks. She instinctively took a step back, her hips bumping into the cart behind her, causing a few books to rattle.
"Alex..." whispered Lilly, her voice trembling as she quickly looked around the quiet room to see if anyone was watching them. "What... what are you doing here? You shouldn’t be here right now."
"I came to see you," stated Alexander, his voice dropping into a low, smooth melody that carried an absolute, unbothered confidence. He leaned forward, resting his large palms flat on the wooden counter, completely invading her personal space. "You vanished that day after the club. I wanted to make sure my favorite librarian was doing alright."
"Stop...!" said Lilly. "Just stop," she said again, looking down.
"Stop?" murmured Alexander, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a cold, predatory focus. He reached across the desk, his long fingers casually brushing against the soft skin of her wrist.
Lilly didn’t melt this time. Instead, she violently snatched her arm back, her eyes flashing with a sudden, sharp aggression that completely overrode her usual timid demeanor.
"Don’t touch me, Alex," hissed Lilly, her voice a lethal, low whisper as she stepped forward, her heavy breasts pressing hard against the edge of the counter. "Don’t come here acting like everything is fine. Two days ago, right after you let those two theater losers handle my body, you looked me dead in the eye and told me I wasn’t your girlfriend. You told me you only wanted me as a fuck-buddy."
Alexander raised an eyebrow, his expression remaining completely unbothered by her sudden outburst.
"I was just being honest, Lilly," stated Alexander smoothly. "I don’t do exclusive relationships."
"Well, I don’t do being just another slot in your pathetic rotation!" Lilly snapped, her face flushing a deep, angry crimson as she slammed a heavy textbook down onto the desk, the loud THUD making a student two tables away look up in surprise. She leaned in closer, her teeth clenched. "I wanted you for myself, Alex. I gave you everything in that bathroom because I thought we were building something real. But you’re just a shameless pig. And to make it worse, now I have Sophie breathing down my neck!"
Alexander didn’t blink. He simply tilted his head, watching her chest heave with frantic rage. "Sophie?"
"Yes, Sophie!" Lilly whispered aggressively, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the counter. "She cornered me this morning near the lockers, looking like she wanted to murder me. She knows exactly what we did in the restrooms yesterday. I don’t know who saw us, but she knows. I am not going to ruin my reputation or get into public screaming matches with your other sluts. I don’t want problems with whatever other pussy you’re filling up with your hose, so just stay the fuck away from me!"
Across the room, Marcus was leaning back in his chair, completely captivated as he watched Lilly’s hands fly aggressively in the air, a massive, highly entertained grin on his face.
Alexander took a slow, deep breath, his eyes narrowing as he evaluated her fiery, rebellious stance. She was furious about the lack of commitment, and the added pressure of Sophie discovering them had pushed her straight over the edge. She was trying to fight for her pride, adopting a harsh, defensive armor to push him away.
But as Alexander looked at her lips trembling with rage and the heavy, frantic bounce of her chest, he knew exactly how shallow her armor truly was. She wasn’t just angry—she was violently jealous, and jealousy was just another form of absolute obsession.
Alexander let out a low, amused chuckle, entirely unaffected by her aggressive tone. He leaned across the desk once more, his massive shoulders completely cutting off her view of the rest of the library, cornering her against the wooden counter.
"Come on, don’t be like that," whispered Alexander, his deep voice smooth and entirely steady as he looked down into her angry eyes. "I’ll take care of the Sophie situation, alright? Just don’t give it so much importance."
Lilly bit her lower lip, her chest heaving heavily as she glared at him, her fierce armor already cracking slightly under the sheer weight of his proximity.
