Chapter 124: You can’t go

Li Jun completely forgot about what he did last night and the situation this morning. He was extremely angry. In all the years that they had fought with Helion, they had never been this shameless.

They had an infamous death squad that would explode themselves on command, the war prisoners they took during the war were worked to death in their labor camps, but they had never taken things this far.

Children were off limits. But this time they decided to kidnap several children from the nearest towns. These kidnappings happened just before Elora was attacked. Parents were looking for their children, but with the evacuation order, they were ordered to leave.

Their children were missing, but no one was looking for them. There were plenty of missing people in the chaos, so Elora didn’t prioritize them. If Yu Wen had known, he would have sent people to find them.

Yu Wen looked at the three locations pinging on the holographic landscape. Surrounding him were his commanders. They were discussing their plan on how to infiltrate the three camps. They were going to have to attack simultaneously if they wanted to save those children.

Just when they were agreeing on a plan, a sudden transmission came through. Alex glanced over at Yu Wen, and Yu Wen nodded. Alex picked up the call and answered, "This is Commander Janesen of the Red Valkyrie One. How may I help you?

The voice of a child came through. It was so childish and soft, like they were around six years old. "Hello, commander."

The men and women listening in on this call looked at each other. As soon as the call came through, Yu Wen had someone track it. In the meantime, he gestured for Alex to keep talking.

Alex nodded and said, "And who am I talking to?"

The kid seemed to hesitate. They let out a soft, "Um... I am Theo Mantis." They sounded calm, like they weren’t in immediate danger.

"Hi Theo. The people who told you to call... what did they say they want?" Alex asked, and the call fell silent for a second.

After some time, that sweet voice said, "They said I can only talk to General Yu Wen. It’s for his ears only."

Yu Wen tapped the floating screen and walked out as he put an earpiece in his ear. "Theo, this is General Yu. Are you in any danger?" He felt a gaze on him, so he looked over and saw Li Jun checking on a rifle. When their gazes met, Li Jun looked away.

Li Jun said into his ear, "This is seriously fucked up. They killed a kid yesterday, like what type of fucking demon does that shit?"

Draco could tell his grandson was extremely emotional, and when he was this emotional, he would make stupid decisions. "I know you are angry. I am angry too, but you have to calm down. You can’t just rush into the line of fire. I told you I sent an elite team to handle this."

Li Jun pulled his hair back and said, "I can’t just sit by while kids are in dang-." He suddenly fell abruptly silent when Yu Wen stood beside him and gripped his forearm. Li Jun clenched his jaw and met Yu Wen’s gaze.

Yu Wen said, "Tell them that they can have me in exchange. The person they are asking for has long turned to ashes," looking into Li Jun’s eyes. He wanted to place his hand on the man’s neck and caress his skin. But he swallowed his need, his Adam’s apple bobbing.

Their request raised red flags for him. He knew that this person knew that Li Jun was alive, and they wanted him to give him up in exchange. Hearing this, Li Jun’s brow arched. Who had been turned into ashes?

He wanted to mouth the question when Draco’s voice came in through his ear. Li Jun turned to walk away from Yu Wen, and Yu Wen let him go, but his gaze was following him. "Grandpa, do what you have to do. Either way, I am going to rescue them," he said before hanging up the call.

Draco gritted his teeth. "Why is he so fucking stubborn?" he said as he kicked the chair nearby. It was sent flying, striking the wall. He just wanted to keep Li Jun safe, but the kid stubbornly put himself in the line of fire, which was incredibly frustrating.

"Damian!" he called out, but there was no response. He walked towards the door while calling his son, but when he opened it, he was met by his bowing assistant. "Where is he?!"

The man trembled slightly and said, "Sir, he left last night."

Draco scoffed, his eyes unable to hide his annoyance. He had grounded Damian, and for the past few days, the worst he had done was argue with him. But when he mentioned deploying Blood Wing, an assassin elite team, to assist in retrieving the children kidnapped by Helion, the idiot ran away too, just like Li Jun.

Damian defied his orders because the head of Blood Wing was his little boyfriend. He was starting to think all his family members couldn’t think with their big heads. Instead, they were ruled by their small heads.

Draco completely forgot that he joined the underworld because he was thinking with his small head. He could have been a mech designer with a regular job, but because of love, he took a different trajectory. He was so mesmerized by Haku Euxun that he even took her family name. He was busy criticizing his late daughter, son, and grandson when he himself did the same thing.

On the other hand, Li Jun strode back and grabbed his rifle. Yu Wen suddenly grabbed his arm again and said, "You can’t go."

Li Jun sneered at the suggestion, his lip curling in derision. "Who do you think you are to tell me where I can and can’t go?"

Yu Wen stared at him intently, his anger rising. He was trying to protect Li Jun, yet he dared to say that to him. "Who do I think I am? I will show you who I am," he said with a self-deprecating smile.

Li Jun, "..."
