Chapter 142: Chapter 142 Theodore was intelligent
_Virella’s POV_
My hatred for that woman skyrocketed. I was never like this. I was never the type to get so bitter and go as far as harboring killing intentions against anyone, but Rowena had pushed me too far. She’s made me a laughing stock, and I hated her for that.
This time, I didn’t mind killing her. If anything, I wanted her dead and gone.
Theo pulled me aside the moment my threat landed.
We got to the underground parking lot and got into his car.
“Virella, do you really plan to kill her?” He asked suddenly, catching me off guard. I turned to look at him, surprised by those words.
“Of course! Wasn’t this the reason for the kidnap? To end her miserable existence just like her entire family.” I spat, unable to hold back my resentment.
Theo sighed and actually ran a hand through his hair. He never did that easily because he preferred his hair styled to perfection. Also, he never easily showed a reaction. Looking at him now, I could tell he was stressed out.
“Wait, are you reconsidering? You don’t want to help me anymore?” I questioned, already dreading whatever response he’d give.
“It’s not like that. But killing her won’t be easy.”
“Well, I don’t care. She gets on my nerves and did you see how sharp her mouth kept running? She even threatened me! Me?!”
I felt my wolf stir in anger. I wasn’t the only one offended. How dare that woman?
Silence followed after my outburst, Theo looking out his car’s window as if thinking of something he didn’t want to tell.
Now I thought about it, he was acting strange. Since he returned from where ever he’d gone earlier.
I was beginning to suspect him.
“Where have you been?” I asked instead, curiosity getting the better of me.
Theodore didn’t look at me and just sighed again. “I went to see someone. Business related.”
That was a pretty good lie. I could tell without thinking deeply into it. I smiled thinly, looking at the car’s roof.
“You’re keeping things now. I thought you loved me.”
Theo’s head snapped towards me instantly, “Of course I love you.”
“Then fucking explain why you’re lying now?! I’ve told you the truth from the beginning until now. Why the hell are you keeping things from me?” I asked.
To perfect my act, I let a tear slip from my eye.
When he saw this, his eyes widened, his composure slipping.
He reached out to touch me but I pushed his hands away. “Don’t touch me.”
“Virella listen,” He paused, as if choosing his words carefully. “I think Alaric and the others already suspects you.”
I froze at those words, slowly turning to look at him. “What? How did you know?”
“Pierre called me earlier and asked me out for a drink.”
I frowned. Pierre? As in Pierre Ashford?
“Your stepbrother?” I asked and he nodded. “What did he want? Didn’t you say you both haven’t been in contact for fifteen years?”
“Yes, exactly why I’m worried about you.” Theo said.
“What does it have to do with me? He probably wanted a drink that’s all.” I glared at him, not thinking it through.
Theo sighed again. More sighs today of all days.
“Virella, relax and think about it. Rowena is Pierre’s friend, from my research earlier about people she was close to, I found out. Rowena is missing, and suddenly, Pierre calls me out for rekindling after fifteen whole years, instead of looking for Rowena.” He paused to let me absorb the information.
I did.
“It explains one thing, there’s been a slip up. Why would he suddenly want a drink? Now that Rowena was missing. Plus, doesn’t it surprise you that he’s in this city? He came here obviously to join the search for Rowena, but suddenly pausing to reach me and ask for a drink? I’d say they have a lead on us. What I can’t figure out is how and what lead they have.”
When he finished, I finally understood what he meant. The words registered slowly in my head. I felt fear crawl up my spine. This couldn’t be, right?
We’ve been careful about oppressions. We’ve made it look like either Drake was behind this or Kaelen, so how did they find out about me?
Theo noticed my overthinking and reached out once more. He held my shoulders and made me look at him.
“Relax. I’ll never let them get to you. I promise to protect you, but for now, you have to listen to me and not act on impulse. Understood?”
I subconsciously nodded. I was so scared. If they found out about me, I’d been toast. Alaric won’t let me off easily for sure.
Kaelen would kill me on the spot. The only one I had now was Theodore. So I had to listen.
“What do we do?” I asked, reigning in my fear.
“We won’t kill Rowena. Not yet at least. I’m working towards finding out who was behind this rattling. Someone definitely told them something. When I find out who, I’ll let you know.” He explained.
I nodded.
“Don’t be afraid. If things go south, I already have my jet ready to fly us out of here and straight to my island in the west coast. No one knows about it. We’ll stay there until things settle down.” He gave me a thin smile that somehow calmed my racing heart.
I returned the smile with my nervous ones. freewebnøvel.coɱ
“Thank you.” I blurted out, realizing how much intelligence Theodore had.
He wasn’t ordinary and I still thanked the goddess he fell in love with me.
If everything settles, I might consider reciprocating his feelings for me. For now, my mind wasn’t at peace yet for a romantic commitment. The sex was enough. He was a good fuck for sure and I appreciated that.
Just as my thoughts settled and my heart relaxed, he suddenly asked a question that left me frozen in my seat. It felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over my head.
“Virella, why are you doing this to Rowena? Is it because of Kaelen?”
