Chapter 53: The Streets of Lumiel [1]
I stand up slowly after realizing that we are within Lumiel at last. The dream from before still feels like it is lingering a bit, but I’m sure I’ll go through it again.
"How are we going to do this?" Lia asks quietly.
Quickly I glance around while taking in everything. There appears to be multiple points that we can jump onto the docks from here.
It also looks like a staircase leads up into the main part of the capital which makes a lot of sense for the way they have this place set-up.
"We’ll quickly jump across when they head up," I respond while watching closely.
Everyone nods in agreement as they wait silently for our moment to arrive. The voices of the merchants slowly begin to fade into the distance as they climb the stairs.
So I use that to my advantage and quickly look over the side of the ship to see they really are gone for the time being.
"Amelia climb onto my back again. It is time for us to go," I say while waiting for her. freewebnøvel.coɱ
I wait a moment until finally she climbs onto my back, now it is time to leave. We all run forward and make a leap onto the docks where no one else seems to be at the moment.
The other ships still haven’t caught up yet so we are safe. Taking a closer look at the staircase I realize the walls go up a lot higher than I expected.
It isn’t crazy since we did climb down and this is right underneath the capital itself.
"We should probably go while no one is really here," Morrigan advises.
"You’re right," I reply while putting Amelia down.
The walk up the stairs isn’t that bad but I’m definitely noticing the difference in architecture with this place already. The sleek black that follows alongside the stairs all the way towards the top.
It has a bit of silver etching in specific parts of the wall which show it was part of the design.
Elves really do know how to help out with making a capital it seems, maybe I’ll have to have Lia find us some help some day.
"The top is coming up. We should make sure to blend in as much as possible for now," I say while putting my hands into my pockets.
"Easy for us, but I’m not sure about you Dante," Lia replies as she walks ahead of me.
She really knows how to have fun, even when we are in enemy territory. This is probably why she makes for such a great companion in the first place.
Amelia is also kind of warming up a bit more as we travel together. I think she just has to get used to fighting real people more instead of training with us.
We don’t have the intent to kill her that the enemies will definitely have. I’ve dealt with that intent quite a lot... In almost every fight since I’ve left the manor.
Hell, even at the manor I killed people.
They did break into our homes before anything else could be done; Also killed my family and some of the staff there as well.
"Woahhh," Amelia says in awe as she looks around.
Upon hitting the top of the steps I also start to understand why she’s in awe about everything. Nice streets with those "cars" driving throughout as people walk on the side of them.
The buildings also look a lot different compared to Ariel, a bit more refined and like they detailed every single one.
A mix of black, silver, and even some gold is etched into a variety of the places around the main road. Some seem to be specific to shops while others are for other forms of business?
Airships also fly above the capital of Lumiel but I’m sure they have to watch for the dragon as well.
"So this is the capital that chose to go to war with us," Amelia says after the awe disappears.
"Don’t think about that right now Amelia. We’ll get our revenge in due time," I assure her while keeping my voice low.
People walk past wearing noble like attire, each one a bit fancier than the rest. None of them appear to be only human... Multiple races are accepted here as well?!
I walk a few feet forward while trying to ignore some of my anger for the capital, just managing to stop in front of a giant building that goes up towards the sky a bit.
It might even look over the walls of the capital here. There appears to be a sign right above the door too. "The Golden Apple Hotel."
It honestly might be best to get a room here if we can afford it since we’ll definitely need some time to think. Getting out of the public eye would also be the best possible idea.
I’m not sure where the hunters are currently lingering but I won’t take any chances.
We’ve got a hell of a lot to map out before I can make any sort of moves. Actually, the hotel would be perfect if we can get a floor towards the very top.
You can probably see absolutely everything inside of the capital.
"Let’s get a room inside this hotel place," I say while opening up the door.
"Don’t have to tell me twice," Morrigan replies as she follows behind me.
They all follow behind me without any issues with this and inside is even crazier. A golden like color paints the floors, walls, counters, and even a few paintings are scattered across the room.
Probably of the king who rules over Lumiel and the kings before him as well.
"Talk about displaying the wealth," Lia whispers.
"Hopefully we can afford to stay here," I whisper back to her.
"I’ll cover the costs for us if need be," Amelia chimes in.
"Works for me," I say with a bit of relief.
I make my way over to the counter where a man in a nice suit is standing there waiting.
"Are you looking for a room sir?" He asks politely.
"That’s exactly what I’m looking for," I respond calmly.
"How many nights will you be staying?" He asks with an eyebrow slightly raised. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Two nights," I answer.
He looks down at a paper on the counter and begins to fill out something. It looks like prices and what room to give us.
"If possible could we get a room towards the top?" Amelia asks with a bit of excitement in her voice.
"Ahh. You must be here for the first time, of course! One room? I’d assume maybe two?" He responds before waiting for an answer.
I look at the girls for a moment before looking back towards the man.
"I think one room should work," I say with confidence.
"That’ll be roughly 375 silvi," He replies with a smile.
Amelia immediately pulls out the silvi and hands it over to him like it is no big deal whatsoever. He kindly takes it and puts it somewhere underneath the counter.
"You’ll be in room 43 on floor 12," He says while handing over a key.
One look towards the right side of the room and I can see a strange door that appears to open from both sides? Left and right? It looks like the only way up so I go over to investigate it.
There’s a button on the right side with two arrows, one goes up while the other goes down.
I’d say we are definitely going up.
Click.
The door opens and a tiny box like space is there for us to fit into.
"This appears to be the way up," I say with a nervous tone.
"No reason to be nervous. Let’s go," Morrigan replies as she drags me into the space.
We all get inside without an issue but it doesn’t appear to be moving... Until I realize that a panel is on the wall. Buttons with all sorts of numbers until 12.
I guess it would make the most sense to press the 12 since he did say floor 12.
Click.
The door immediately shuts and everything begins to move, it feels kind of unsafe for a few seconds as we move; Then we finally reach the floor we are staying at and the doors open back up.
Step. Step.
I didn’t hesitate to get out of the damn thing since that was definitely the strangest experience I’ve ever had. The hallways look like of the same as the lobby except there aren’t paintings everywhere.
Just doors that lead to whatever rooms people request down there.
"Found our room," Amelia speaks up from down the hallway.
I should’ve been paying attention to what was going on... I didn’t even realize she slipped past me in the first place. Maybe there is some hope for her yet.
She might make a pretty good assassin. Or I’m just thinking that because I zoned out on all the crazy stuff this hotel has.
