Chapter 224: On The Same Page

Sierra knew they were never friends, and perhaps they could never become friends. But deep down, she thought perhaps their relationship had improved over time. After all, Cassandra could’ve chosen to return to her home kingdom for aid instead.

Sierra’s words seemed to have an effect on Cassandra. The Royal Consort slumped in her chair with a look of defeat at the realization. She did not speak for a while, likely still trying to process the situation.

When she finally did, she looked up at Sierra, "But why would you help me? Don’t you hate me?"

"Hate you? Whatever for?" Sierra returned the question, "We might have had our differences, but I thought we’ve grown past that."

"Helping you is beneficial for all of us anyways," she said as she crossed her arms, "So I don’t see why I shouldn’t have done so."

Alistair was amused by the development between the two women. He knew they had their differences but he did not expect things to turn out as they did. Cassandra’s distrust of them was within his expectations.

"You have my word, Cassandra. What we’re offering is true and genuine. I know Sierra and you have had your differences, but I’m sure you can trust my word on this?" He jumped into the conversation, hoping it would help resolve the situation.

"Well, if it wasn’t for you, none of us would be in the mess in the first place," Sierra mumbled beneath her breath.

Alistair narrowed his eyes and glanced over at her, "Sweetling, I heard that."

Sierra pursed her lips together as she glanced over to Cassandra, "I think Cassandra agrees with me on this one."

The Royal Consort could not help but chuckle, fanning the flame, "Her Majesty is right on that one. If there was no concubine choosing ceremony, we wouldn’t be here right now."

His attempts to help resolve the situation ended up a fiasco. Now he was to blame for everything. Alistair leaned back in his chair with his shoulders slumped in defeat. The look on his face made the two women laugh.

Of course they were just teasing!

"So, Cassandra, would you accept our offer? We’ll support your claim to become Queen of Sumera, and in exchange, your union with Alistair would be annulled. You would be free to be with whoever you wish."

Still a little in disbelief at the offer she was given, Cassandra took a moment to ponder her options. In truth, she had no other choice to make.

"What would you do to me if I said no?" She asked out of curiosity.

Sierra and Alistair glanced at one another.

"Honestly, we don’t know," Sierra confessed.

"We didn’t see any reason why you wouldn’t accept the offer," Alistair added.

They were right in their prediction. Cassandra held no love for Alistair. Their union was sanctioned by her home kingdom. A political royal union for the sake of both kingdoms. It was as simple as that. freēwēbnovel.com

Cassandra looked down at her hands, curling them into fists. She did not know what sort of backlash she would face when she returned. But regardless, she was ready to put up a fight.

"Alright, I will take the offer," she replied with confidence.

With their deal in place, the three of them celebrated with some wine. As they sipped their wine, they started talking about different topics to pass the time.

"You know, I heard from some gossip, that Cassandra has a lover," Sierra said teasingly.

Cassandra’s face went red. She almost spat out the wine she had just sipped.

"What? Who, where did you hear that from?" She insisted on knowing.

But neither of them was going to tell her.

"Oh, I heard about it too. I heard he’s her childhood friend. They’ve known each other for a long time and his name is-"

"I think that’s enough!" Cassandra yelled, with her face still red.

After sending Cassandra off, Sierra and Alistair knew it was time for them to turn in. Tomorrow was their big day and there was a lot to prepare for. They were both a little drunk.

It was at this point that they realized that Alistair had not been assigned a room yet.

"I’m so sorry, Your Majesty, I will get someone to prepare it at once!" Ida apologized profusely for the mix-up.

She wanted to bury herself in a hole in embarrassment.

Sierra and Alistair looked at each other for a moment, uncertain of what to say.

A cheeky grin formed on Alistair’s face as he wrapped his arms around Sierra, "I guess I could just sleep somewhere else or..."

Sierra was blushing beet red, knowing what he was about to say.

"You can sleep in my quarters tonight," She mumbled with her cheeks burning red.

Alistair chuckled as he leaned in close, whispering in her ear, "Did you say something, my sweetling? I didn’t hear you."

She could smell the alcohol on his breath. Both of them were a little out of it from the wine they had. She did not know if he was really drunk or not, but she decided not to think about it.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in close.

"I said, you can sleep in my quarters tonight, My King," she whispered sweetly.

Ida cleared her throat, making her presence known to them. Sierra and Alistair quickly released one another, a little embarrassed by what they were doing. They were so absorbed in the moment that they forgot Ida was still there.

"I will get some additional bedding sent to your room, Your Majesties," Ida said as she bowed to them before leaving the hallway. freewebnovёl.ƈom

Just as she turned the corner, she took one last look at the King and Queen. Alistair glanced over and mouthed a word of thanks and a quick wink. Ida glanced over to Sierra, who was also looking in her direction. Her expression was pretty much the same as Alistair’s just moments before.

Both the King and Queen had the same idea on their mind. They wanted some alone time with one another and had asked Ida separately to be in on a secret task. A task that she carried out perfectly.
