Chapter 222: Divine Punishment
Agnes gritted her teeth in anger. Rage had consumed her whole. She could not understand what Alistair ever saw in Sierra. She was just a knightess when they first met. She did not have any qualities of an elegant princess.
They came from wildly different backgrounds.
They were never meant to be.
Despite all odds, their love blossomed while she got the short end of the stick. How was that fair?
"Why do you keep protecting her?! Why can’t you just let her die!" Agnes screeched as a strange aura surrounded her. freēwēbnovel.com
Her skin was now completely covered with fur. She lunged forward at Alistair without much thought, leaving rubble in her wake. Sierra felt her heart pounding in her chest as Alistair took the attack head-on. He did not dodge.
The resulting impact caused a dust cloud to form. When it finally settled, Sierra gasped in shock. Alistair had caught Agnes’ punch with his clawed hand. His sharpened claws pierced into her fur-covered skin.
Agnes tried to wiggle her hand out of his grasp but she couldn’t get him to budge.
"Agnes, I have to say... you surprised me," Alistair said as he threw her against the wall to the side.
But just as she was about to hit the wall, she managed to propel herself off course, reducing the impact as she did. Before she had a chance to get back up, Alistair closed the distance between them in a flash.
He grabbed her by the throat and flew up into the sky. Agnes was screaming in shock and pain from the throat hold, coupled with the sudden increase in height. Remembering all the pain Sierra had suffered in her hands, Alistair wanted her to suffer too.
"Please... Your Majesty... let me..."
"You want me to let you go?" He asked coldly.
"Yes, please... I... I..."
"Alright then, I’ll let you go," he said with a smirk.
Alistair released Agnes from his hold, allowing her body to free fall back down to the ground. Agnes’ screams could be heard from miles away, echoing through the air. She reached out, hoping that Alistair would show her some mercy and catch her before she hit the ground.
But that never happened. Upon impact, Agnes let out a final blood-curdling scream as blood pooled around her. The ground beneath her cracked, sprawled around in broken pieces. Some even cut through her skin and flesh. Agnes lost consciousness as her body fell limp, mangled on the ground.
Sierra winced, her hand was still pressed against the wound Agnes had given her. Claw marks across her abdomen.
"Good riddance," she muttered beneath her breath as she tried to lean back and rest a little.
A shadow loomed over her. Sierra looked up, happy to see that it was Alistair. He picked her up in his arms and kissed her on the cheek. She reached out and worked through the pain to wrap her arms around his neck.
If it was not for the pain of her wounds, she would have thought she was dreaming! They were finally reunited in each other’s arms. Sierra never wanted to let him go. Not ever again.
"Looks like we came right on time for the grand finale," Vy and Dygo arrived shortly after.
Sierra blushed in embarrassment when she realized she was being carried by Alistair in front of her friends. Vy and Dygo came over to check on their injuries. Seeing the wounds on Sierra’s abdomen, Vy immediately cast a healing spell to stop the bleeding.
Though the threat was dealt with, it was not all victorious. Opal, her beloved snake was gone.
"Opal..." Sierra whispered her beloved pet snake’s name as her lips trembled.
Tears blurred her vision.
’Did someone say Opal?’ Aether’s voice echoed in all of their minds.
Sierra looked over to Vy, realizing there was someone she had never met before standing next to her. Though they had never met, she still felt a sense of familiarity. The mysterious stranger walked up to her.
"You must be wondering who I am. Your Majesty, I’m Aether, Vy’s familiar. This is my human form. My apologies if I scared you."
Sierra gasped in shock, she did not know Aether could shapeshift into a human form. It was her first time meeting him this way. Aether held out his hands, holding up for Sierra to see.
She gasped in shock when she realized what she was looking at.
It was Opal!
Her little snake looked injured but was resting soundly in Aether’s hands.
"How... Agnes said..."
"She lied about that," Vy stepped in to explain.
After Vy and Dygo followed the shadow guards to go find Alistair, and after Sierra’s confrontation with Agnes; Opal managed to slither away after Sierra was knocked out. She found a place to hide and attempted to contact Aether through mind-link.
She gave Aether and the others the crucial information they needed to find Sierra, before passing out from exhaustion.
"Oh Opal, you saved my life," Sierra exclaimed with tears in her eyes as she reached out to caress the glistening scales of her little snake.
"I think I deserve some credit too you know," Alistair mumbled in jealousy.
Sierra chuckled as she turned back to pinch him on the cheek, "Yes yes, of course, Your Majesty. You deserve the most praise of all. How can I repay you for saving my life?"
Alistair smirked as he pulled her closer to him. She could hear his heart pounding in his chest, just like her own. It brought a smile to her face.
"The only repayment I deem fit is for you to give your soul to me," he teased.
"Oh? But how do I give it to you, when it’s already yours?" She mused.
Both of them shared a good laugh, along with their friends.
"Sometimes I wonder if they still remember we’re here," Vy laughed as she said to Dygo.
He chuckled along, adding to the conversation, "I think they simply choose to forget."
