Chapter 209: Familiarity

"Your Majesty! They have engaged in battle with the Royal guards when they were refused entry!"

"Battle? Bring me there, at once!" Sierra hastily put in her leather armor and headed out of her quarters.

Opal slithered along on her wrist, curious to know who would be so daring as to engage in battle in a castle. Could it be an enemy they had overlooked? Perhaps Cedric had more supporters than they previously thought.

’I sense a familiar presence,’ Opal hissed to her as they came up closer to the site of the incident.

Sierra tightened her grip on the hilt of her sword as they approached their destination. She could hear the clashing of metal blades. But there was something amiss. To her relief, no blood had been spilled.

"What is going on here?!" Sierra’s voice boomed across the hall. freewebnσvel.cøm

At the sound of her voice, all fighting seized.

Sierra narrowed her eyes, trying to make out the mysterious guests who’ve turned up unannounced. They were dressed in dark-colored garments.

Assassins?

No, if they were assassins, they would have come straight to her quarters. Why would they enter from the main gate?

’Aether?’ Opal’s voice rang out in Sierra’s mind.

"Aether? That’s Vy’s familiar," Sierra muttered to herself as she looked over, "Vyrena Blackfire?"

"Surprise!" Vy exclaimed with a wide smile as she withdrew her dagger.

With her was Dygo, who also kept his weapon.

"Stand down, all of you," Sierra instructed as she moved through the crowd.

Most of the guards only suffered from scraps and bruises. When the two women met, there was a moment of uncertainty. Vy wasn’t sure how she should greet Sierra, now that she was going to be Queen.

She didn’t want to be disrespectful, but she also had her own principles.

"Your Highness," Vy greeted Sierra with a slight bow, opting for a safer option.

"Spare the formalities, Vy, you know you have no need or use for them," Sierra chuckled.

She nudged the young woman on the arm before sharing a hug. The two women locked arms as they entered further into the castle. Sierra took Vy straight to her personal quarters for a glass of wine with Dygo following suit

"Come have a seat. What are you doing all the way out here?" Sierra asked as she poured each of them a glass of wine.

"How could I not?" Vy mused with a grin, "Someone told me you’re getting married!"

Sierra laughed, amused by it all. She had not expected her recently newfound friend to visit her so soon. As it turned out, Alistair had kept Vy updated on what was happening.

She turned out to be the main consultant behind Alistair’s proposal too. When he found out from Sierra that Vy was the one who suggested their union rituals, he came to ask her for more information.

"He proposed to you on a cliff?" Vy gasped in amazement after listening to Sierra recount the details, "How romantic!"

"After the defeat of an enemy," Dygo added, "Perfect moment."

"Indeed. That usurper Cedric deserves a horrible end. Death to him would be mercy."

"My sentiments exactly," Sierra agreed, "Which is why his punishment is a fate worse than death."

"Buried alive till death?" Vy mused.

"What? No, nothing like that," Sierra furrowed her eyebrows, wondering why Vy brought it up, "Why was that the first guess?"

"Oh, did I not tell you about that story before? About the time I buried a man alive?" Vy asked nonchalantly as she took a sip of her tea.

Sierra was too stunned to speak. She was mildly disturbed yet intrigued. Her curiosity got the better of her.

"No, I don’t think you have."

"Well, you’re in for a treat," Dygo chuckled as he leaned back in his seat as Vy recounted the story.

Back when she first arrived in Gaeia, the world they currently were in, Vy made a few enemies along the way. One of whom was a baron who seemed to be out to get her. Due to a series of unfortunate events, the baron became a thorn in her side.

He kidnapped her brother and locked him up.

"He kidnapped and locked up Lycster?" Sierra gasped in shock.

Vy nodded, "My sweet little brother, could you believe it? He was only a young boy at the time. Then the same baron tried to arrest me for a long list of false crimes..."

Sierra was at the edge of her seat as she continued to listen to Vy recounting her tale. She knew Vy had led an interesting life, but never did she realize it was this treacherous and filled with so many obstacles.

"You won the trial and walked out, didn’t they come after you?"

"They did, but they could not catch me," Vy chuckled, recalling the details in her mind.

"So what happened then? What happened to the baron?"

’He got his desserts,’ Aether’s voice rang in all of their minds.

Vy grinned.

"Like we’ve been saying, death is mercy. He most certainly did not deserve it. Not after killing all those innocent people."

When Vy’s trial did not go the way he had intended, the baron chose to kill all witnesses. He threw them all into a collective grave, no proper burials were given. Sierra could not believe someone would do something so horrible.

"So, how did you punish him?"

Vy put down the teacup as she glanced over to Sierra, "Broke all his bones and buried him alive."

A cold chill ran down Sierra’s spine, but her expressions remained the same.

"A fitting end," she replied.

Dygo watched the conversation continue between the two women. He could not help but feel as though both Alistair and he had picked interesting life partners. Strong women with strong ideals and principles. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Now you’re making me wonder if my punishment for Cedric could’ve been harsher," Sierra mused.

"Now now, you have your position as future Queen to consider as well. But three hundred public lashings and dungeon for life? That’s brutal in its own right," Vy reminded her.

"I guess you’re right."
