Chapter 199: Waiting Patiently
Alistair did not like being so rough with his sweetling, but he had no choice. He had to be convincing and play the role of his disguise. Everything hinged on himself and Sierra.
Once he placed Sierra before Cedric, he desperately wanted to stand guard and hover. On the first sign of trouble, he would be able to protect her. But Cedric waved him away, forcing him to retreat to the side to avoid suspicion.
Sierra did not dare glance at Alistair, she did her best to keep her gaze transfixed on the ground before her. She gritted her teeth as Cedric roughly forced her to look at him.
"Did you miss me?" Cedric asked as he carefully caressed her cheek.
She remembered everything he’d done to her and her father. Things that happened far in the past resurfaced as if they had only happened moments before. Her blood boiled. She spat in his face, causing him to recoil in disgust. Alistair almost chuckled, but he quickly chided himself to keep his composure.
"Oh I miss you," she said sarcastically with a grin of her own, "I should’ve destroyed you then."
"You whore! How dare you spit at me?! I’m a King!" Cedric yelled at the top of his lungs.
His voice echoed through the throne room. Some of the courtesans shrunk and gasped. They shrunk away, hiding behind the throne chair, fearing Cedric’s wrath. They all prayed that no blood would be spilled.
Alistair tightened his grip on the dagger he had belted on his waist. His other hand held onto the pole of his weapon that was on his back. He did not like the way Cedric spoke to Sierra.
He wanted to cut him down where he stood.
"A King?" Sierra scoffed, "You look nothing like a king. More like a pretender at best. A monkey in fine clothes."
Cedric gritted his teeth, he raised his hand and slapped Sierra across the face. The force of the slap was so hard, that she fell on to her side as she winced in pain. But that was not all he did. With great force, he kicked Sierra in the stomach. Despite the intensity of the pain, she did not cry out.
Alistair’s grip on the dagger tightened. He did everything he could to stop himself from reacting. His eyes were filled with rage and fire. Cedric felt a cold shiver run down his spine. He still did not know what he’d done.
Blood trickled down the side of Sierra’s lip. The impact of the slap bruised her cheek. Still, she chuckled. Despite still having her hands behind her back, she wrestled her way up. She was still on her knees but she was still able to straighten herself to face Cedric.
"Have you seen what I did to your father?" Cedric asked with a grin.
The color drained from Sierra’s face. It was exactly what he had hoped would happen.
"That stubborn old fart never saw it coming. You tried to tip him off, didn’t you? Still, he fell into my trap. I guess he’s not what he used to be," Cedric laughed.
He drew his sword and pointed it at Sierra. The tip of his blade rested delicately on her neck. Sierra gulped as he pressed it against her neck, threatening to pierce it through and allow the blood to spew.
Still, her resolve did not waver. The look in her eye never changed. She continued to glare at him. Realizing he could not break her frustrated Cedric. He withdrew his sword and closed the distance between them.
He grabbed Sierra by the collar and leaned in close. She could smell the nauseating stench of alcohol on his breath. He used his other hand to cup her face roughly, forcing her to hold her position as he tried to kiss her. She winced in pain from the excessive force he was using. She wanted to punch him across the face so bad!
From the corner of her eye, Sierra could see Alistair about to react to it. She was not about to let Cedric get his way either. Using the momentum of the force, Sierra swung her head back a little, before head-butting Cedric.
He yelped in pain as he stumbled backward, falling onto the red carpet cursing and swearing. Sierra shot Alistair a quick glance, slightly shaking her head. It was not time for them to react just yet. She needed him to be patient.
"You bitch!" Cedric yelled, the anger in his voice was crystal clear.
Alistair wanted to knock the teeth out of his mouth. The glare he had in his eyes was one usually reserved for his worst enemies. But he respected Sierra’s plans and took a step back as he continued to keep his emotions in check.
"Don’t you even think of trying anything with me, Cedric. You’ll never have anything from me," Sierra declared calmly.
"You’ve gotten bold, I’ll give you that," Cedric said as he glared at her.
"But I’ll break you, just like how I broke Felicity." he said in a calm chilling tone of voice, one she had never heard him use before, "You will be my Queen, Sierra. And you’ll obey me!"
The mention of Felicity’s name would not have mattered to Sierra in the past. But circumstances have changed. The princess had never been kind to her, but no one deserved a fate worse than death. ƒrēewebnovel.com
She’d heard the horrors of what the princess had suffered. She needed to get her to safety.
"What did you do to Felicity?" Sierra asked cautiously with her eyebrows furrowed.
Cedric laughed, amused that Sierra cared, "Why do you care?"
"I asked you, what did you do to her!" She yelled, her hardened gaze penetrating his very soul.

"I broke her," he said with a wide grin.
In the distance, a cry echoed through the sky. It was a signature cry of a bird she knew all too well.
A silverwing.
