Chapter 198: We Can Agree
Sierra leaned against his chest, burying her face in the scent of his clothes. She didn’t realise just how much she’d missed his touch and presence until that very moment.
"I’m sorry, my love. I’m sorry," Alistair whispered continuously as he tightened his arms around her. free𝑤ebnovel.com
He was afraid of losing her again, worried he would never see her again. Sierra shook her head, she could not even look him in the eye at that moment.
"No, I should apologize. I was too rash, too stubborn..." she reasoned, not knowing what else to say.
She has been so worried about her father that she had neglected Alistair’s feelings entirely. She did not for a moment think how he would feel if they were to be separated. Going into war for any regular person would be highly dangerous. When you’ve been marked for death, the danger was further amplified.
"I should’ve been more understanding. Roxine helped me see that. I’m such a numb skull," he cursed himself, battering himself over his actions.
He has pushed her away. His worst fears almost came to light as a result of his own actions!
"Well, I guess we can agree on one thing," Sierra mumbled as she tilted her head up to look at him.
"We can?" He mused, uncertain of what she meant.
She chuckled a little as she reached out her hand to cup his face. She leaned in for a kiss. Alistair reciprocated willingly, wrapping his arms around her waist. They had longed for the taste of each other’s lips more than they would ever admit.
Ida, who’s been watching the Royal couple from the sidelines, looked away quickly as a blush rose on her cheek. She took a few steps to the side just to give them some privacy.
While most would have allowed the couple to indulge in their reunion for a few moments more, Opal did not. She carefully tightened her coil around Sierra’s wrist a little and hissed at the both of them. Sierra gasped in surprise, releasing Alistair from their tender moment.
’I’m sorry to interrupt, but let’s not forget what situation we’re in,’ she hissed as she looked up at both of them.
Since only Sierra could hear her voice, Alistair had no clue what had just happened until she explained it to him. As much as he hated Opal for interrupting their moment, he knew the little snake was right. Alistair took Sierra by the hand and signaled Ida to follow him.
Once they were hidden by some forest cover and he was certain no one was around, he began to explain what he’d done since he arrived at the castle. With a bit of luck on his side, he managed to blend into the assassins. Since all of them were masked, no one noticed anything was amiss.
"This is good, I think we can work with this," Sierra whispered confidently as the gears in her mind began to churn.
Alistair now had the perfect disguise. She has the perfect plan to get close to Cedric and give him a piece of her mind. It had been a long time coming and the moment was now.
After explaining her plan to all of them, Ida went off to play her part. Sierra summoned Bunty with a whistle while Alistair summoned Paco. Each of them sent the same message to the Bancroft forces who’d been waiting for the signal.
Just in case one did not make it, they would have another to deliver the message.
"Are you ready?" Alistair asked Sierra in a whisper as he placed his hands on her shoulders.
Sierra nodded confidently, "As ready as I’ll ever be."
She looked up at the sky in the distance. Things were about to change. When it does, everything would be different. All she could hope for then was for things to be smooth sailing.
But when was there ever such a scenario that was?

"Your Majesty, Your Majesty!" A messenger yelled as he stumbled into the throne room.
Cedric sat on the throne, surrounded by courtesans who were trying to please him. Annoyed by the messenger, he had half a mind to execute him for ruining his day.
However, the news he was about to deliver would most certainly save his head.
"King Cedric! They’ve caught the traitor Sierra! She’s been found lurking in the castle!"
Cedric shoved the courtesans away from him as he shot up from his seat on the throne.
"She’s here? They got her?!" He could not believe his ears!
After bad news that came one after another, he finally had something going good for once since he took the throne by force. He rushed down the steps.
"Yes, Your Majesty! They’re bringing her to you now!"
Cedric let out a maniacal laugh. One that brought chills to those who heard it. It sounded like the laugh of a mad man. He’d been waiting for this moment for a long time.
He wanted to see and savor the look on Sierra’s face when she learned what he had done.
Outside the throne room, Sierra had her hands behind her back, held together by carefully tied ropes. Alistair was holding on to her arms as he escorted her towards the throne room.
Along the way, they had been met with looks of horror and shock.
"Remember, no matter what he says to me or about me, wait for my signal," Sierra whispered to Alistair.
"I know," he replied softly, "But if he crosses the line, don’t expect me to go easy on him."
They soon came up to the throne room. The guards who stood at the door looked on emotionlessly. They’d been numb to all that they had seen their new monarch do. All they could do was pray that the King’s latest victims would receive leniency.
As soon as they entered the throne room, Sierra put on her game face. She could see the smirk on Cedric’s face. Once a long time ago, that smirk made her heart flutter. Now, it only made her sick.
If her hands weren’t held behind her back, she perhaps would’ve already torn him to pieces.
"Well well well, who do we have here?" Cedric mused as Sierra was forced to kneel before him.
