Chapter 29: Final Goodbyes

’Oh, right, I still have to give these books to the orphanage. I’ll head back to the library after I’m done.’

Percival remembered that he still had a delivery to do, and he changed directions and vanished in a flash of blue light as he headed towards the orphanage. A few minutes later, the kingdom guards appeared at the scene of the battle! The group that came was made up of ten high-ranking generals in the force, and they all stood on a floating black platform and looked around with wide eyes. The group had come here because they received reports that there were powerful mages battling in the city, but the sheer amount of destruction that had been caused by the battle left them stunned! This sort of damage couldn’t be caused by any regular mage!

The leader of the group was a woman with long elf ears and a beautiful face, and she spoke up to one of the men behind her!

"Go get reports from the civilians in the city. We need to track down the people responsible for this."

The man saluted and quickly went to do as he was told, and the elf woman turned back to the massive crater and spoke in a low voice.

"What in the world happened here?"

.....

[Verati Academy Library]

Things had settled down rather quickly after the death of Beelzebub. The city guards who had gone to raid Jacques’ mansion were taken to healing centers very quickly, and many of them had to be given special [Lionheart] potions to help them overcome the fear and depression that took over their bodies because of Beelzebub’s aura.

Although Jacques was now dead, the [Statue of Eternal Rest] artefact had still been in the basement tunnel under his house, and it was enough to prove to the magical council that Jacques was responsible for the multiple killings that took place around the kingdom over the past few years. Percy had actually thought about taking the statue with him since he knew it was dangerous, but Percy understood that it was important evidence that would help a lot of people to gain their freedom, so he decided ot leave it to the Guards.

After analysing the statue, the researchers found out that the artefact was actually a gateway to the River of Souls, where all beings end up after they die. By using the artefact, Beelzebub had preserved his own soul and prevented it from going into the river, and every time Jacques used the statue to summon the soul of his dead wife, the statue would release a vengeful spirit into the mortal realm, and that spirit would possess anyone close by and force them into committing murder.

The reason why only humans were killed was because Beelzebub’s hatred for humans corrupted the statue into being more biased!

After the evidence was released, all the people who had been affected by the statue were released from custody, and the cases against them were closed. It was impossible to bring back all the humans who had died because of the statue, but at the very least, the innocent people who were possessed would be able to go free.

In the downstairs basement of the Verati Academy Library, Percival walked along the white light surrounded by a dark abyss, and he stopped at the center of the room and turned to the darkness.

"Hey, Henry. You hungry?"

BWOOHH!

A deep, terrifying sound echoed from within the abyss, and Percy smiled as he reached into his pocket dimension and pulled out the [Soul Prison] jar. The jar was shaking and vibrating, like something was trying to break free, but Percy ignored that and opened the jar and allowed the white mist to flow out!

Beelzebub’s soul immediately floated out of the jar and charged towards the distant wall to try and escape, but a large tentacle with multiple jagged teeth suddenly reached out from within the darkness and grabbed hold of Beelzebub’s leg before he could run!

BWOOHH!

’No! No! Stop!’

Beelzebub clawed against the ground desperately as he tried to get away, but the tentacle was relentless, and Percy smiled as Beelzebub was pulled into the darkness of the abyss, and his voice slowly grew more distant! Percy waved towards the darkness while walking away.

"Try not to get indigestion, alright."

BWOOHH!

Percy laughed as Henry said he would never get indigestion from a puny mortal soul, and Percival simply entered the elevator and went back upstairs. It was the weekend today, so there weren’t many students visiting the library, and it was a very slow day. Lana was sitting behind the librarian’s desk and reading a comic while swinging her legs happily, and Rita was up on the higher floors organizing the forbidden section while talking to a woman inside a painting. freewebnøvel.com

Percy walked towards Lana, and he ruffled her hair playfully. Lana laughed with a happy blush, and she put her comic away and took Percy’s hand to rub her face against it!

Ka-Cha!

The sound of the door opening drew their attention, and they turned to see a young girl walking into the library hesitantly. The girl was Dalia, the lynx-human hybrid with black hair and two cat ears on her head. She had an air of nervousness around her body as she looked around with red eyes, and Percy pat Lana on the head a few more times before he put his hand back behind his back and walked up to Dalia.

"Hello."

"!"

Dalia jumped slightly when she heard Percy’s voice, and she immediately looked to the ground while stepping back. Percy crouched to her level and spoke with a smile. freёwebnovel.com

"Are you okay?"

Dalia hugged her hands around her body and nodded once. Dalia had just been released from custody a few days ago, but even after her name was cleared, she still felt immense guilt in her heart for what happened. Dalia might not have been the one to kill Vanessa, but her friend was still dead, and she was still the one who pushed her to her death! It was impossible for her not to feel guilty for that! Percy hummed curiously as he looked at the little girl, and he thought for a few seconds before he finally said.

"If you want, I can allow you to meet your friend one more time. You can say everything you want to her and find some closure. Do you want to meet her?"

Dalia looked up at Percy in shock when she heard this! There was an intense tremor going through her heart at that moment, and she could feel hope creeping into her mind. Dalia had never spoken to Percy before, but she remembered him as the man who spoke up for her when the guards were taking her away. At that moment, Dalia didn’t care about whether she could trust Percy or not. Dalia simply wanted to talk to Vanessa. Dalia nodded, and Percy smiled as he told her to follow him.

A few minutes later, Percy and Dalia were floating up from Percy’s research lab, and they arrived at the upper floor where the ghost children were playing together. Dalia looked around at all the dead children in shock, but Dalia froze when her eyes finally landed on Vanessa! Vanessa had been laughing while talking to a young boy ghost, and Vanessa turned in surprise when she felt someone staring at her from behind. Vanessa’s eyes widened in shock when she saw Dalia floating a small distance away, and Vanessa immediately flew towards Dalia and pulled her into a tight hug!

Dalia was completely stunned when she felt the hug! Dalia expected many things when she came up here! Dalia thought Vanessa would be angry at her, or even shout at her for taking her life! But Dalia could’ve never guessed that Vanessa would hug her like this! Tears began to gather in Dalia’s eyes, and it wasn’t long before Dalia was crying like a baby as she squeezed Vanessa in her arms and apologized desperately!

"I’m sorry, Vanessa! I’m so sorry!"

Vanessa smiled, and she held her friend in a loving embrace.

"It’s okay, Dalia... I’m okay."

Percy simply floated back with all the other ghosts and watched with a small smile on his face as the girls said their final goodbyes.
