Chapter 42: A Threat!!

-----

The moment they stepped through the door, a bright light flashed, blinding them momentarily, then they felt a pulling sensation— like their bodies were being dragged across air.

When it stopped— the sounds of cheering erupted in their ears.

Their eyes slowly cleared and they found themselves in the arena, surrounded by multiple stares of disbelief, amazement and envy at the same time.

The crowd roared with the sounds of clapping, acknowledging the great feat they had just accomplished.

"You all did well," the black-haired instructor walked towards the first years. The entire arena immediately calmed down upon noticing his presence. "But there were those who were exceptional."

His eyes flickered towards Theon slightly— a gesture that didn’t go unnoticed by many students.

"I wasn’t able to explain this before," the instructor exhaled. "But this is how the second phase will be graded like this—"

He paused slightly, then continued.

"Those who were able to clear floor one to ten will receive 50 points—"

The crowd cheered slightly, congratulating those who cleared the first ten floors.

"Those who were able to clear the 11th floor to the 20th floor will receive a hundred points," the instructor continued calmly. "From floor 21 to 30 will receive 200 points, 31 to 40 will receive 250 points, 41 to 49 will receive 300 points, and lastly those who cleared the last floor."

He paused, his eyes shifting towards Theon’s group. "For clearing the 50th floor, you will receive 500 points."

Suddenly, a shift occurred on the screens. Numbers changed. Positions shifted.

The points gotten from the second round had been added to each person.

Some students dropped in rank, while others climbed up the ranks.

"Well, I guess Theon is still number one—" Lucius sighed, staring at the screen.

[Number 1: Theon Grey, Points: 1020]

[Number 2: Amy Silver, Points: 930]

"Thanks to that 500 point increase— all of our ranks increased as well." Damon said, adjusting his glasses.

"Yeahh, at least. . ." Lucius exhaled.

[Number 7: Reed Valen, Points: 715]

[Number 8: Lucius Arden, Points: 710]

----

[Number 18: Damon Graves, Points: 680]

"With that, we can call an end to the second phase of the ranking events." The instructor continued calmly. "The third phase will take place tomorrow, thank you all for coming."

He said then walked down from the stage, but not before stealing one last glance at Theon.

’What is wrong with that guy?’ Theon asked himself with raised eyebrows.

The crowd has already started departing, comprising of the first year students leaving the arena first.

They moved in groups, all in a discussion on a singular topic. Theon Grey.

He was now the number one student among the first years. A very shocking feat for someone who was once termed as the weakest in the academy.

But this also raised many questions as well.

For example, how did he get so strong this fast?

Multiple students and instructors wanted answers, even some special guests were looking to speak with him, but Theon’s group had already disappeared amongst the crowd.

"Nice idea, Damon!" Lucius smiled as they walked through a secluded part of the Academy.

"Theon is now like a celebrity—" Damon sighed. "If we had followed the usual path, we would’ve been flooded by a lot of people looking to speak with him."

"As if I would let them near him," Amy whispered under her breath, much to the hearing of the group.

’At least it looks like she has recovered.’ Theon smiled lightly. ’But I wonder what truths she saw that put her in that state.’

They continued to follow through hidden paths and secluded areas till they ended up near the dorms.

"We’re finally here," Lucius released a long exhale, then he turned and looked at Theon. "You know you owe all of us now, right?"

"..."

Theon didn’t reply. His gaze sharpened as he came to a sudden halt.

"You all should go on without me," he whispered. "There is something. . . I need to handle."

"Theon?" Amy halted. "You don’t plan on doing anything that will get you hurt, do you?"

The rest of the group focused their gaze on Theon.

"Let’s go, he’ll be fine." Reed said quietly. He turned and continued walking.

"Yeah! We all saw what he did during the ranking events, he’s number one for gods sake." Lucius chuckled and waved him off, before joining Reed.

Damon’s gaze lingered, before he joined the rest of them, leaving Amy behind. freeweɓnøvel.com

"I’ll be fine Amy," Theon said softly.

"Fine," Amy turned. "But if you get hurt, I’ll kill you and the person that hurt you!"

Theon released a small smile. "Agreed."

She released a small smile, then walked away. Theon watched them walk away, then once he was sure they were gone, his eyes suddenly sharpened.

"I know you’re there, you can come out now!"

"..."

Nobody answered, just complete silence.

"Fine, if you won’t come out— I’ll just drag you out."

Theon’s eyes glowed, lightning arcs already encasing his entire body.

Then suddenly, a shift in the air occurred. The space before Theon seemed to twist and turn, then a figure emerged.

"I see, so Adrian sent you to do his dirty work for him," Theon’s eyes narrowed at the large figure in front of him.

"So you were able to sense me. . . That’s new—" The figure emerged from the shadows, and Brook’s face came into full view.

"What do you want?" Theon demanded, but the large second year students didn’t reply.

Theon’s eyes narrowed further.

Suddenly, Brook moved. Like a blur, he suddenly appeared in front of Theon, his fist drawn back— ready to punch a hole through Theon.

Theon’s eyes widened. He reacted quickly and ducked under the punch, before throwing a jab of his own into Brook’s gut, then he jumped backwards, creating space between them.

’What the hell,’ Theon said mentally. ’How was a guy that big able to move that fast. And that attack— if that thing has hit me, it would have broken more than a few bones.’

"I see—" Brook suddenly whispered, touching the spot where Theon had hit him. "You really are a threat to Adrian, and I can’t let that be."

Brook moved once more, this time appearing behind Theon.

"You will have to die!"
