Chapter 20: The Enemy of My Enemy
-----
Few moments earlier
"Where the hell could he be?" Amy whispered as she sprinted down the well paved road of the academy.
She entered multiple halls and facilities, all in search of one person.
Her eyes darted quickly, flickering towards corners that she might have missed. Even if she did miss anything— her essence leaked from her body, acting as a sixth sense that would immediately notify her of any suspicious movement.
"How do you always get missing?" She hissed, her eyes still searching for any suspicious activity.
Her essence suddenly flared up and her gaze sharpened. She paused at the doorway of the Ashborne hall.
The moonlight shone on her skin which glistened with sweat. She wore a purple cropped hoodie that’s displayed her well-shaped abs with a pair of tights that stopped a little above her ankles.
On top of those tights were black baggy shorts that stopped above her knees, short enough to show her well shaped thighs.
Her black hair was tied neatly into a ponytail, and her crystal-blue eyes shone brightly as she stared at the three figures approaching her.
"So, Where you able to find him?" She asked softly.
The three figures emerged into the light. It was Damon, Lucius and Reed— all dressed in casual sweat shirts and pants.
"No!" Damon nodded his head, and adjusted his glasses.
Amy sighed softly.
"How does he always go missing under your watch!?" She questioned, her crystal eyes scanning the trio.
They all looked away, trying to avoid the sinister gaze that was trying to meet with theirs.
"Tch!" She hissed. "Maybe I should have been born as a guy, that way I would’ve been able to protect Theon better."
She had just been going on her usual late night jogs, when Lucius suddenly popped up out of nowhere, with Damon and Reed right behind him.
He began to recall all the events that happened in the cafeteria as well as how Theon had gone to see Adrian alone.
’I was always suspicious of that Adrian—’ she pondered. ’He was too nice to begin with.’
Amy had never trusted Adrian from the start. Why would a noble such as himself associate himself with a poor, weak orphan like Theon.
’I should’ve known from the start that he was the one behind everything that Theon was going through,’ She sighed softly. ’But now that I know, I’m going to put an end to it.’
"There is still one place we haven’t checked," Lucius pointed at a building at the far edge of the academy.
Reed squinted his eyes. "That place has been abandoned for a long time now—"
"Exactly—" Lucius smiled. "Perfect place to run things in secret without drawing attention, don’t you think."
Amy stared at them quietly, then spoke. "Fine, let’s check—" freewēbnoveℓ.com
BOOM!
She didn’t get to finish her words, as the sound of something crashing floated through the air.
"What the? Where did that come from," Lucius stumbled.
Amy squinted her eyes and pointed at the abandoned building. She could feel a large amount of essence building up within that building.
"It’s coming from there," she said quietly.
------
"You can’t go to sleep now," Theon coldly said. "You still have a lot of questions to answer."
He turned slowly and looked at Maya, who still stared at Theon with widened eyes.
"Hey," he said calmly.
"h-huh?" Maya flinched, hearing Theon calling her out.
"I know you’re exhausted, but do you think you could heal him— not fully, but just enough to allow him talk?"
"Y-yes, I can." She replied with haste.
Rushing over, she squatted and began to circulate her essence. Her hands glowed a greenish hue that encased Reacher’s body.
After about thirty seconds, she stopped.
"He should be able to talk now," She muttered.
Theon nodded, then faced Reacher. "Tell me everything! You are among the students that ambushed me! I want the names of everyone involved!"
Theon said coldly, his body radiating with killing intent.
Reacher weakly turned his head and faced Theon’s cold glare, then he spoke calmly, like his life wasn’t on the line.
"Even if I did tell you, what do you plan on doing?"
"I am going to find and kill each and every one of the bastards involved." Theon spoke, his voice radiating with cold fury that sent shivers down Maya’s spine.
Reacher stared at Theon’s eyes quietly, then released a weak chuckle.
"You really have changed. I like this new version of you—"
He paused.
"I’m going to tell you everything, and I’m not going to tell Adrian anything that occured here— on one condition that is."
Theon eyes squinted slightly. "You’re not in the position to make negotiations."
"You’re right," Reacher smiled. "But at least, Adrian won’t find out about your newfound strength, and you will have the element of surprise. It’s worth it, don’t you think?"
"And what makes you think I can’t kill you right now, that way you can’t tell Adrian anything." Theon’s essence suddenly exploded from his body, his eyes glowing dangerously.
"You’re not dumb, Theon," Reacher said quietly. "You know the effects killing me will have, and they’re not positive ones. You won’t kill me, I know."
"..."
Theon stared at Reacher quietly. He knew Reacher wasn’t wrong. Killing him would just make Theon more suspicious, and Adrian would grow wary.
If not Adrian, then Brook who seemed loyal enough to die for Adrian.
With a sigh, Theon retracted his essence and killing intent.
"Fine, what do you want!?"
Reacher eyes grew cold. "I want you to promise me that you will kill Adrian."
"What?" Both Theon and Maya reacted at the same time, their mouths left agape.
"Aren’t you his loyal lapdog?" Theon raised an eyebrow.
"Loyal?" Reacher scoffed. "That might be the funniest thing I’ve heard today. I’m just doing whatever it takes to survive. Right now, my gut tells me I have more chances of surviving if i side with you, so I’m going with my gut."
Theon gaze lingered on Reacher’s cold expression. ’I guess things aren’t always what they seem.’
At the end of the day, everyone was trying to survive. Humans truly were scary creatures. They could turn their backs on literally anything when giving the chance to gain survival.
"Fine," Theon smiled. "That’s a fair deal. I planned on killing Adrian without this deal anyway—"
"So now," Theon’s eyes glowed. "Keep your end of the bargain."
Reacher smiled, then began recalling each and every information he had on Adrian. From his mysterious backer, to his abilities and weaknesses. Reacher recounted every bit of information he had to Theon.
He also told Theon everything about what had happened on the day he died.
-----
"That’s everything I know about Adrian," Reacher said quietly.
Theon nodded his head calmly, then released a small smile.
"Thank you for all the valuable information. With this, I can finally set things in motion."
He paused then turned and looked at Maya. She had heard everything that both he and Reacher had discussed today and he had to make sure she didn’t say a thing to anyone.
Maya flinched upon noticing Theon’s glare, but she understood the message clearly. He wanted everything discussed here kept between the three of them.
She nodded, then moved her finger along her lips. "I won’t say a thing to anyone."
Theon gave a nod of acknowledgement, then stood up slowly. "I guess we are done here—"
BANG!
The doors of the building suddenly slammed open. Dust that had gathered due to how long the room had been abandoned raised into the air, obscuring their vision.
Both Theon and Maya slowly turned to look at the figure walking into the abandoned building.
"Theon?"
