Chapter 8: Deeper !!

The five had finally moved closer to the dungeon full of the hellhounds, they weren’t fully out of the tunnel but at a place where their eyes could still see what transpired inside the dungeon. After their successful earlier attempt they really did have their hopes up that anything would go their way.

Just like they did earlier the plan was for Leo to bait them once again, but this time they needed to be a lot , at least half of them if they really wanted to progress into the higher floors.

So the four stood near the entrance, planning to use the large space of the tunnel behind them to retreat if anything went south.

Leo rushed towards the others as twenty hellhounds rushed at his back, following him into their trap.

And the minute Leo crossed the mark, Ken raised his shield up to block them as some of the hellhounds slammed head first into the shield, losing their balance at the spot. The impact pushed Ken back a little but he got ahold of himself just as fast.

But unlike the first time, some of the hellhounds didn’t slam into the shield, instead they went to the other side of their formation where the shield couldn’t reach.

Luckily Sabrina already knew what to do, using her wind technique she slammed all the hellhounds right unto the walls of the tunnel, giving room for Jake to use his technique and shock them to death.

Leo’s eyes stayed on the screen, a smile creeping up on his face as realization settled in that his points were so far away from the others.

Slowly the corpses started to disintegrate into ash.

He turned his eyes to the others who were also admiring how their points were increasing as well.

’I really want to tell the others about this, but I haven’t heard anyone speaking of a special feature since coming here . So it’s better I lay low for a bit and understand my situation first !’

Jake began to stretch his body, pulling all his strength for the main event to come.

"The plan is working well as intended, that means we have 37 left."

He started the conversation. But as the others were about to answer, the walls of the tunnel started to shake vigorously like there was an earthquake, the sound itself like a stampede. The crystals that were stuck in the walls began falling down to the ground.

Everyone stood steadily in that instant, the whole experience bringing memories of the destruction that happened on earth.

Out of nowhere all the hellhounds had started to rush towards the tunnel where they were. Moving with determination like they just got intelligence out of nowhere. Even if they were still far from the tunnel, from their pattern alone you could tell something about them had changed.

Jake’s eyes widened in fear as his hands began to tremble, Jennifer didn’t help too, she kept on screaming like she was gonna die and even at some point wanted to activate the emergency button so she could go back to the top. freёwebnoѵel.com

Leo on the other hand had a lot of thoughts in his mind. He really didn’t know how to map out what was happening. This was the exact same scenario that the system had warned them about. The more their numbers increased the stronger they got, even though the last time their attack worked, each one of them could see that they managed to hold them barely.

"What in the heck is that, I thought they were too far away in the dungeon to notice."

Ken screamed back at the others as he readied himself to conjure the shield.

"Sabrina ready up."

With every passing second they came even closer making stones on the ground jump even higher until finally.

Smash!!!

They crashed unto the shield, this time they didn’t smash into it with surprise like the rest of the times, this time they were pushing against Ken, thirty seven hellhounds against one human, a teenager at that.

Ken clenched his teeth, contracting all the muscles he got from his bodybuilder body to push the hellhounds back but it didn’t seem quite effective.

Some of the hellhounds started to break away going to the other side where there was no shield, but luckily Sabrina slammed some of them into the walls with her ability then Jake shocked them to their deaths so that they didn’t come back up.

It was indeed a sight of what teamwork is really all about, everyone doing their own part in it. For a second it really seemed like they could do this but then.

Clack!!

The shield started to crack, and with it cuts started to form on Ken’s arm, his blood dripping to the ground mixing with the soil.

"Fuck!"

He screamed in agony, but besides that, he still tried to push back against the attack.

He wasn’t the only one that was holding on by a thread, Sabrina looked overwhelmed as well for conjuring a lot of skills at the same time. Jake was too even though he tried to hide it.

For a second as Leo watched it all unfold it didn’t seem fair at all, letting other strangers suffer while he stood there like the audience watching people play on the pitch. But what would he do, he had no ability he could use in the fight, less a weapon as well.

Tension kept on tightening by the second, just waiting for who would snap first, the Breakers or the hounds, but as more time passed it was getting more obvious it would be the humans and if something wasn’t going to be done, they would die.

But as they say hope comes when you least expect it. For the first time since coming into the dungeon, Jennifer came near the others while in battle.

"Jennifer go away, you don’t have to be here!"

Jake screamed at her in anger.

Even with that she didn’t go away. She closed her eyes then muttered.

"Activate special skill: Heal Circle."

Suddenly out of nowhere a large magic circle appeared in the skies, circulating the three that were in battle including Jennifer, then as the bright white light started hitting their bodies they started to get healed, their lost strength replenishing.

Sabrina noticed it too as she blasted the hellhounds.

"You were a healer all along, why didn’t you say that?"

She screamed at her forgetting that jennifer was helping them in the first place.

Jennifer shook a little, her dimples turning pink.

"Am sorry, it’s just that I was shy."

She said like it was an enough reason to support what she did, but with how tides had changed, her help was really doing it. Suddenly the humans started to attack even stronger, now that they had healing by their side it all seemed like they hadn’t lost an ounce of energy to begin with.

Hellhound numbers started to decline fast, until finally they defeated them all as the fighting four fell to the ground, breathing so loud that it felt like someone was whistling.

They started laughing too, the feeling of just slightly passing away from death making them laugh out loud.

[You’ve successfully completed floor number 1]
