Chapter 7: The Plan That Involves someone screaming

Their plan had finally gotten into action.

Leo rushed with all his strength from the dungeon back into the tunnel. Three hellhounds on his tail, following everywhere he went making the ground to shake up and down wherever they crossed.

"I can’t believe I agreed to this!!"

He screamed as he rushed forward even more into the tunnel, his eyes looking at his four teammates that stood not too far away from him waiting for him to bait the hellhounds into the perfect scenario so that they could finally begin their plan.

"You’re doing great, don’t stop running!!"

Ken shouted back, using his hands to cover the sides of his mouth so that his voice could be loud enough for Leo to hear him besides the adrenaline coursing through his body.

Their formation was simple, since Ken was the defender he stood in front of all of them ready to defend whatever the hellhounds would throw their way. Just behind him was Sabrina, her hands already stretched as she prepared to conjure her battle-altering ability. Jake waited patiently just to the right of Sabrina waiting to use his attack ability to cast the decisive blow in the fight.

Jennifer was far behind the others, since she hadn’t really awakened her abilities and the plan didn’t need her, she didn’t want to get near the heated rivalry in any way.

Thud thud

Leo rushed even faster to the others and so did the three hellhounds with their tongues dripping out of their mouths. They didn’t care that they were being led to more humans. In their eyes it was just prey showing them the way to other prey.

The moment Leo finally crossed the mark that Ken stood at, he activated his technique.

"Glow Shield."

Energy materialized in thin air creating a massive shield-like object that covered their side like a wall out of nowhere. Since they were already moving at high speed the hellhounds couldn’t stop themselves and ended up slamming into the shield, their attack pattern getting disoriented.

"Now Sabrina, it’s your turn!!"

Jake screamed at her with a loud voice none of them knew he had.

Sabrina concentrated all her energy in her hands, the warm feeling of energy pulsing through her veins before finally glittering in her hands.

"Activate Whirl Wind."

Suddenly a splash of air slammed into the three hellhounds sending them crashing into the walls of the tunnels. By this second the hellhounds were hurt but not dead yet.

Jake rushed out from behind the shield, with a flick of his wrist electricity glittered in his hands, compiling until it became a ball then he threw it at the hellhounds. Upon hitting them, the electricity shocked the hellhounds immediately, making them scream repeatedly before dying with their tongues out. The smell and smoke of fresh burnt meat went up into the air like vapor.

"I can’t believe it, we did it."

Sabrina began as relief crept onto her face.

Ken threw himself into the conversation as he deactivated his shield ability.

"I told you we can do this, with how strong our team is we can easily defeat anything."

Leo looked at the rest in admiration as he breathed repeatedly, getting back the energy he lost from running.

’Their abilities are so powerful, Ken’s shield is the greatest option for defense everyone would ever need, and for Sabrina her wind ability is even more powerful. But the thing that breaks it all out of the park has to be Jake’s ability. I don’t even know why his ability didn’t get him into Team A or B at least. Besides that, the ball technique is just level 1 of his arsenal, what if he upgrades it to its maximum capability or even what would his level 2 skill be like!’

"Let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet, we have fifty-seven other hellhounds to kill."

Jake reminded them. His breathing ragged like the others as well as he looked at the three corpses that lay in front of them.

The screen finally came on.

[Successfully defeated three hellhounds ]

[10×3= 30 points added ]

[Level 1 Skill points :: 0/2000 Now::30/2000]

Those words came on everyone’s screen, with the name of the skill varying according to their abilities. But for Leo whose ability was Null the points just added to a skill which didn’t exist yet.

"So, what do we do now?"

Jennifer inquired as she deactivated her screen.

"Now that we know that the RPG-like strategy works well, we can now try with all of them. But only if everyone is okay with it."

Jake inquired.

He knew that getting everyone’s opinion in a dangerous fight like the one they were about to venture into needed all the people working together as one unit. Rather than that, if it all went south, they wouldn’t blame him for the outcome.

"Let’s go with it, we need to kill as many creatures as possible if we are going to get stronger."

Ken replied, saying exactly what was in all their minds.

"Okay then, let’s go farm some kills."

The four of them started moving away from the scene of the dead hellhound corpses as Leo stayed behind for awhile marveling at how his body had just moved. He got used to his body feeling heavy but this time it seemed really light, to the point that he felt that he would only need some strong wind to blow him into flying.

"What are you waiting for Leo, let’s go."

Sabrina reminded him as she realized that he was staying behind.

"Yeah I’m coming."

After looking at his hand for awhile he started moving towards the others but as he was about to pass the hellhound corpses the screen flickered once again in his eyes showing him something he had never seen before.

[Special feature activated >Scavenger< ** In addition to the points you get by killing an animal, you also get other points by harvesting the corpses of the animals you kill]

’Ooh shit, am I dreaming or something? How does that even work.’

[Points are derived from a creature’s energy, the higher the energy signature the higher the points. But the system only converts the life energy instead. It doesn’t take the full amount of energy that the animal had thus the corpses remain. With your technique you will be able to take all the energy to the very last bit, that means you will get ×3 what a normal Breaker gets from akill.]

’ I get it now. So what energy can I scavenge from the hellhounds?’

[That will be 20 points, since there are three then =60]

[NAME : Leo Hamanay

Ability: NULL freewebnσvel.cѳm

Level 1 Skill: NULL

Range=30/2000

points Now= 90/2000 points ]

The corpses slowly disintegrated, their tissues turning into ash in seconds. One moment they existed and in the next they were gone from the world.

But that didn’t interest him that much, his thoughts were still lingering on what the recent discovery really meant for him. If killing one hellhound brought him 20 extra points what would it mean if he killed something worth 100 points, it directly meant that he would get 300 points instead of 100

He had read before in some novels where the main character was overpowered and had a unique skill, but when he looked at it, the skill seemed so overpowered too.

That’s when it hit him, with how the system had said earlier it seemed like the Scavenger skill was just his natural skill rather than his ability.

’That means I also have an ability. It’s just a theory but I need to ask the system to check if I’m right.’

He wondered as he began walking at the back of the whole group, his mind full while the others conversed.

Suddenly as the light to the dungeon appeared from afar the system screen came again.

[Yes, you still have an ability on top of the skill.]
