Chapter 22: The First Surbodinate

A thin wave of silence stretched between the two. Leo shook his head repeatedly, surprised if what he just heard was in any way real at all.

The Knight of Flames had just spoken to him, even though he didn’t physically have any mouth to talk through.

The overwhelming strong appeal that the Knight had, somehow disappeared from Leo’s eyes as his heartbeat became stable at once, like someone had just turned off a switch.

"Please spare my life, I surrender."

The Knight lowered his head, looking to the ground while still kneeling down. He didn’t have any face, but from his voice alone Leo reckoned that it could’ve looked sadder than a kid denied candy on Halloween.

"You can talk!"

Leo finally broke the silence. His armor still gleaming with energy along with the mask that covered his face.

" After I saw the amount of power and skills you possess, I was convinced that I cannot be able to defeat you."

The words hit Leo hard in the chest with pride. He was strong enough to fight the Knight but couldn’t have gone so far as to say that the Knight had no chance against him. If he was honest with himself, the Knight would’ve killed him if the fight continued any longer, since he had an undying supply of power and couldn’t get tired, characteristics that Leo’s nature as a human lacked deeply.

’What’s wrong with me, the dude’s giving up, no reason to be concerned now, I need do something before he changes his mind.’

Leo cleared his throat first before he continued.

" So what do you want with me?"

He said it in a confident way to hide the deep concern he carried underneath his soul.

The Knight changed his stance, kneeling down like a knight who stood before his king.

"Am yours to command master, do to me as you wish."

’Wait really, oohoh mehn this is amazing. System I need some help here.’

Just as he finished thinking about the system, the screen appeared in his glimpse.

[Successfully defeated the Knight of Flames]

[Assimilation complete: you can now summon the Knight wherever you wish]

[Skill upgrade unlocked: you can now upgrade the skills of the affinity gained from the Knight]

[Do you agree to take him as your follower]

The words came last out of the list.

’Now you’re talking, but I kind of feel bad for the guy. It would be like I’m holding him against his will. Even without that, after he killed Ken I think it would be hard for me to summon him anywhere people could see him!’

[Do you want to kill the Knight of Flames]

The words plastered all over the screen, covering all the rest of the words that came before.

’That’s not what I meant!’

[Killing the Knight gets you 10000 skill points. After using your Scavenger skill, you will get 30000 skill points]

’That much!’

Leo screamed in his consciousness with surprise. The second option was really tempting. If he killed him , he would get a supply of points that would take him passing through a lot of floors to even lay his hands on. Their importance had also increased much since he can’t get access to the floors anymore. Now that his ties with the Breakers had been broken the moment he was sent off their premises like some kind of outsider.

Everything in his scenario was pointing to one answer, he needed to kill the Knight of Flames so that he could take the points. Anyone in their right state of mind would think exactly that.

But luckily, Leo wasn’t just anyone. In his eyes, keeping the Knight had a lot of advantages other than getting loot off it.

For starters, the Flaming Nucleus attack was a very important attack. It took him not using it to really see the whole importance of the special skill’s long-range capability.

Summoning the Knight would be perfect too in scenarios where he would’ve to fight against two different opponents. If he had trouble fighting against one, then two would be hell for him, a type of hell he didn’t want to get into if at all possible.

30000 points were a lot, but he had no idea how much he would need to upgrade into Level 3 and 4 later.

"No I accept!"

He finally spoke out loud as the mask that had covered his face disintegrated into nothingness.

"I will take you as my follower."

"Am gladly humbled. I will make you proud. Anyone who comes your way will meet my blade first."

"Just tone down on the beheading part."

[Beginning the transformation ceremony]

’Wait what?’

A surge of energy lifted the Knight off his feet into midair, strides of blinding light coming out of his armor like a light show.

He continued floating for some seconds until finally his overall look had changed. The armor changed into a dark blue color, the same color as Leo’s system screen. The fire that was constantly coming out of the Knight turned into blue flames as well, even though they were much more controlled than before.

The change in style was so large that he no longer looked like the Knight of Flames. I guess that was one problem off the list for Leo.

While he was in midair, the system came up once again.

[CHOSE a name: |]

A cursor kept on blinking at the end of the sentence as Leo tried his best to think of a good name for his newly found underling.

"Vegor, I will call you Vegor."

A name chosen from one of the web novels he used to read when he was in the hospital. He didn’t know what it meant, just that the guy was so overpowered and pretty much helped the main character in every battle he came across. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

[Name confirmed: Vegor the first Subordinate]

Slowly the Knight began to descend down and his feet touched the floor. He stood up straight, his feet no longer burning the floor. The bloodlust was removed completely.

"I shall cherish that name my master."

Vegor continued his overall vibe of acting like this was still the medieval times. But what would you expect a knight to speak like? It was what he was all about.

Leo deactivated his full armor as he swung his head sideways, stretching the folded neck.

"We have to go back. I will call you when I need you!"

And just like that the Knight vanished into thin air, leaving Leo alone in the Growth Nexus.

An exit door appeared on one side of the wall. After looking around for the last time, Leo went through the door a changed man, back to Valoria where the entire world had seemed to hate him.

Leo appeared in a bathroom, not the ideal place he expected to be in after going through the portal, but that’s what the system perhaps had chosen because of its privacy.

After washing his hands, he came out of the bathroom door only to find himself in a bar, the very same bar he had passed through before coming across the television shop.

On a normal day, you’d expect people to be drinking different beers as they discussed in their social circles, commenting on trivial matters while the bartender cleaned the glass tumbler endlessly like it was just a force of habit.

Or at least that’s what Leo remembered it being on Earth, but today it was something completely different.

All of the people had gathered at the corner of the bar, men and women alike, drunk and sober alike as well. Their eyes glued to the flat-screen TV that was placed high up on the wall. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

’What in the heck is happening here?’

Curious, Leo moved in closer to the rest as his eyes focused on reading the headlines of the news written in bold.
