Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Candy’s Suspicion

’Should I wait for her or go back?’ Shen Yuan thought about it but realised he had no one else he could turn to. He was not on good terms with anyone else in the sect like he was with Candy. ’I should increase the pool of my friends. I won’t have to waste time for other times.’

’I should not waste time while I am here.’ Shen Yuan closed his eyes and started reviewing the techniques in his mind that had yet to reach the perfection realm. Not just yellow-grade techniques. He wanted to upgrade even the mortal-ranked techniques.

On the outside, Shen Yuan looked like he was listening to the music and enjoying it while on the inside he was grinding.

Time continued to pass, and before long, he felt footsteps approaching him.

Shen Yuan opened his eyes and realised that it was not Candy but one of the guards on the floor.

’Are they clearing the floor?’ Shen Yuan frowned at the sight of the guard, but when he saw Candy walking in the background with a jar of wine in her hand, his expression eased a little.

"Sir, please follow me. Your place has been arranged." The guard greeted Shen Yuan respectfully before gesturing for him to follow. Without a word, the black-haired boy stood up and followed the guard who led him to the stairs of the fourth floor.

"A guest of Mistress Candy." He presented the token to the guards stationed on the floor before they let Shen Yuan pass and only him.

Shen Yuan thanked the three guards before climbing up.

Creak!

Candy’s room was not even locked. With a single push, he walked inside, only to find it as spotless as it was the last time.

’Since I am here, might as well use her bath.’ Shen Yuan walked to the back where the bathroom was.

He undressed and laid his clothes on the table inside the bathroom along with a few more items for Candy to see.

He did not want to bring out something from inventory before her or anyone.

Splash!

One bucket after another. He filled the bathtub and lit a fire underneath it.

While it boiled, Shen Yuan applied the paste on his body.

And when he entered the bath, the excruciating pain he was ready to bear did not appear. He only felt a soothing sensation, that of a warm embrace filling his body.

The warmth was so addictive that his eyes started to close. Before he knew it, Shen Yuan fell asleep leaning against the edge of the barrel.

He did not even realise when Candy had returned to her room before and entered the bathroom with a cold look on her face.

She saw his sleeping face and flocks of long hair sticking to his chest, and the anger in her eyes melted a little, but it did not disappear completely.

Her lips curled up as if she suddenly had an evil idea which she was about to execute. She stepped closer to Shen Yuan, whose breathing was still even, and raised her open hand towards his neck.

Just as she was about to wrap her hand around his neck, a firm grip caught it and stopped her. "Eek."

Candy panicked and looked up only to see Shen Yuan had woken up and he was staring right at her with a look of indifference.

When she first saw the look on his face, a chill ran down her spine. She instantly wanted to snatch her hand back to attack him, but then she calmed down upon realising. ’What am I thinking?’ He is weaker than me in cultivation. But how is his grip so firm? He is already so powerful when he has not even broken through the next realm.’

A flicker of surprise appeared in her eyes along with the joy of making the right bet with Shen Yuan.

"Be glad that I did not sense any killing intent, or in that moment, I would have snapped your neck."

Shen Yuan was not lying, or else. He could have done that despite the difference in their realm.

That was only because she had her guard lowered and did not think of Shen Yuan as a threat unit a second ago.

"Hmph! Like you could ever harm me. I know you love me too much to harm me." Candy raised her chin with her finger before a look of confusion and worry appeared in her eyes. "But... why do I feel that you have changed?"

She hesitated before asking, "Where have you been? Where did you disappear for an entire month? When I heard your house had collapsed, I thought you had died."

"A month? So much time has passed..." Shen Yuan whispered to himself, "Does that mean I failed to fulfil my quota for more than a month?"

"No, just in case you were alive. I had one of the guards pay your dues." Candy crossed her arms with a long sigh. "You know, you owe me for this. Big time."

"I understand." Shen Yuan nodded seriously. He had already intended to pay her back the moment he heard how big a favour she did for him. "Because of you, I might just stay alive a little longer."

"Can you tell me what happened?" Shen Yuan looked at the curious courtesan and thought for a second whether he should tell her or not, "I was in my home when it happened."

"And so was Ch—Peng Ho. He was the one who tried to kill me while making it look like an accident." In the end he decided to mix truth with lies. "But at the end moment, I pulled him down with me."

Candy’s hand flew to her face. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "And you survived that? I heard Peng Ho hadn’t made an appearance in a while, but I thought he was just doing some closed-door cultivation."

She did not doubt his words for a second, as she had heard familiar reports from her people. There was high suspicion that Shen Yuan was inside the house and died from the fall.

"I am surprised too. I guess I was lucky." Shen Yuan let out a long, tired sigh before leaning into the barrel once more. "I was able to dodge him and latch onto the mountain. But I was already quite down, so I had to spend the whole time climbing the mountain."
