Chapter 478: Blinking Sky
Kiro smiled a little as he crossed the threshold while he held the general by the scruff of the neck, not wanting to take any chances.
The place felt familiar but it vibrated slightly different from earth. If it weren’t for that, he would’ve sworn it was the same place. The moment he locked the vibrational frequency, the sky turned into an eye, it blinked once and looked straight at the intruder.
He felt the gravity in their surroundings shift, the eye didn’t give him a good feeling at all. It was like staring into an abyss that was fiercely staring back at not just him but his entire being. Kiro could feel his strength leaving his body, it was a good thing he didn’t stray far from the portal.
Kicking his foot off the ground, he flew into the portal backwards and it immediately closed. He stayed on the ground not having the strength to get up, the reserves he had accumulated before were dangerously low.
The general beside him was knocked out cold, only then did he allow himself to lose consciousness.
The egg coffin that was intact only a second ago began showing cracks. Hiro, despite the height difference as he was a dwarf, put his friend on his shoulder and moved closer to it, as he put him down, the egg completely opened.
Isla was in a fetal position as she opened her eyes to see Hubris, Hiro and a knocked out Kiro. She immediately got to her feet, weakly running towards the body of Kiro.
"What happened? He’s not breathing!" She was panicked, as if no time had passed at all since she was in the egg. She lowered her heard to listen to a heartbeat, the silence was deafening.
Her tears trickled down her face, she gently propped his head putting it ontop of her thighs, they were much better than the hardened ground she thought.
"Hiro, potion!"
He did not bother arguing, and took out the only potion he had on him. They left in quite a hurry, he did not have the time to plan things and bring everything they would need. Hiro watched as she carefully fed the potion to Kiro but it was not helping. His best ever potion was not helping his friend gain his life back.
That didn’t make Isla give up, she kept feeding him drops not wanting to give it all at once because then if he didn’t wake up after that she would not have anything else to do but accept that he could be dead.
With every drop, her eyes became blurry, she could barely see with all the tears that refused to stop falling.
"Dammit you idiot, wake up!" She hit him hard on the chest with hands.
"Ouch, what gives?" A voice familiar to her said underneath her followed by a fits of coughs, she propped herself up immediately.
Kiro was attempting to open his eyes but that was on its own a greater task. He had been in that place that looked like the old earth for just a moment, a few seconds, the moment the sky turned into an eye, it drained everything.
In the game running out of mana or in his case Kaos would only result in a penalty where you cannot move for hours. But in spaces like these, world’s that weren’t created to grant them immortality, he was sure he had a brush with actual death back there.
His body was working overtime absorbing Kaos in the space they were in but the space now felt a little odd.
"What happened? Did the general die?" His eyes were still shut, he was still lying on Isla and she was still crying.
"He died." Hiro answered.
"Hubris, hurry before the ancient one comes knocking, connect this space to Asgard. Create the bridge. The space has no owner now, the general said that he would be replaced by someone, they would be here any time so before that let’s claim this one."
Hubris didn’t need to be told twice and got to work. The more world’s they had connected to their game the better their chances were that their world would be procted. This was also a huge blessing, those who use Kaos, they could use this place as a training ground.
"Hiro, examine the Kaos here. Do whatever you can to create potions that replenish Kaos the same way you create potions for mana. Owning this space will be a setback for them and we need to strike while the iron is hot."
Hiro remained unmoving though, "what did you see over there? What happened?"
He took a deep sigh.
"I saw it, the earth of old, you would have liked it Hiro. There were trees everywhere but the moment we stepped in there the ancient one noticed, that’s why I came back like this, my energy drained so fast I almost died."
"Then, you’re planning to go back there?" Hiro asked with an expression of confusion and concern.
"Someone has to, please Hiro get to it immediately. I need thousands of potions to pull this off, I’ll work you to the bone."
Hiro smiled but it was plagued with sadness. If Kiro was like this from just a mere seconds of being stared at by a god, how would he survive trying to destroy an entire space? The question that lingered in his mind, a question he was avoiding the answer to.
"Isla, I’m glad you’re okay too but you’re crashing me."
That startled her, she quickly created distance between them his head hitting the ground as a result.
"Ouch..." He could open his eyes now, she looked unharmed and as beautiful as ever, he was glad.
"Help me up, please?" He took her hand and got up with relative ease, they were standing side by side, Kiro pulled her closer and hugged her tightly.
"Don’t do that again."
She sniffled, "well, you too then?"
Kiro wanted to stay like that forever but it was impossible at the moment. He couldn’t even promise her that, because if anyone could get to that space it was him, it needed to be him. He didn’t intend to die but if that what was needed for their world to be safe, so be it.
