Chapter 79: A lifetime contract

The next few days, Daisy stayed at home and spent all her time with Angel.

Although everything seemed normal but Ivy could feel that something was amiss. Daisy had always been a cold person but she had never seemed so detached. Since that night when they left Ryle’s mansion in a rush, Daisy had been behaving strange somehow. It was as if she was blaming herself for something.

She was even extra cautious with Angel.

"Are you not going to work today as well?" Ivy asked the question that she had been constantly asking the past few days without getting an answer.

Daisy who was playing with Angel placed the plush toy down before she looked at Ivy, ’’Did you not send the document over to the company?"

The night after they left Ryle’s mansion in an hurry, Daisy did ask her to send a document over to Harper Societies on her behalf. She nodded, ’’What about it?"

"It is a resignation letter,’’ Daisy swayed a doll in front of the little girl who tried to catch it from her mother’s hand.

Ivy’s face dropped, ’’I... delivered your resignation letter?"

Daisy nodded.

Ivy was stunned, ’’But why?" she was in disbelief, ’’Weren’t you tied to this job for two years with a contract? It has been a little past one year. Why did you quit suddenly?"

Ivy had been with Diana since the time she came to Los Angeles with a six month year old Angel. Not only had she seen Angel growing up in front of her own eyes, but she had also more or less known about the circumstances around Daisy and Diana both.

Initially, she did not know much about Ryle except for the fact that he was Maxim’s friend. But after meeting Daisy, she got to know more about the man whom she saw as a tyrant. She more or less knew of the reason why Daisy had to disguise herself as Dexter and the rest.

She had her reasons.

Then, why would she suddenly act so impulsively? Even though Ivy did not have a great impression of Ryle, but he took care of Daisy while she was sick and he seemed to be good to her these past few days as well then what went wrong?

Daisy had no intentions of hiding from Ivy, "Ryle always had his suspicions about my identity.’’

’’Had?" Ivy gasped.

’’Yes, he knows it’s me. I am Dexter.’’

’’But how? He did not know it all this time, for all those months you worked for him. You were almost about to reach your contract ending period in another ten months or so then...’’

’’There was an assassination attempt back in Shanghai. I thought they wanted to take his life,’’ Daisy’s memories of all those incidents was too hazy because it happened in a split-second. One moment, she was still sitting on the boat and admiring the paper lanterns with Angel and in the next moment, she noticed a movement from the corner of her eyes, ’’But it was his attempt to blow my cover.’’

Ivy’s brows tugged together, ’’He... is that shrewd? If he had plans against you, then why would he take such meticulous care of you and Angel?"

"It does not matter,’’ Daisy glanced at Angel. Whether it was a bluff or not, intentional or not, Angel was still exposed to danger.

’Ring ring’

The sound of the doorbell ringing interrupted their conversation.

’’Yes?" Ivy looked blankly at the team of men who were standing at the door. Lawyers?

"Are you Miss Daisy Chen?"

’’That would be me,’’ Daisy walked towards the door and looked at Ivy before motioning her chin towards who was playing with Angel.

Her gaze landed on Benjamin who was accompanying the team of lawyers.

She looked at the middle-aged lawyer who seeme to be leading the team.

The lawyer opened his mouth to speak, only to be interrupted by Daisy who raised her hand quietly, motioning for him to wait.

Once Ivy and Angel went inside the Master bedroom and door was locked, Daisy laced her hand down as she looked at the man calmly. freewёbnoνel.com

"My client, Ryle Harper has filed a lawsuit against you, Miss Daisy Chen for defrauding him. You misinterpretated and concealed a material fact, that is your true identity, that too with the intent to deceive my client, in which you succeeded for a period of more than 12 months...’’ the man paused and opened the file in his hand. He looked at Daisy before fixing his glasses, ’’Not only that, you had signed a contract with my client to work for him for two years but you breached the contract by turning in your resignation letter before time, which in turn has caused my client many damages...’’

’’Damages?" Daisy interrupted the man, her gaze gauzing him keenly.

’’Precisely,’’ the man nodded with a clear of his throat.

Daisy looked at Benjamin who had his head lowered, seemingly in shame before she looked back at the lawyer, ’’Elaborate what kind of damages have I caused to your client.’’

At the mention of that, the lawyer’s expressions twisted a little. He cleared his throat yet again as he slowly looked down at the file in his hand, "Your betrayal has led to severe mental and emotional damages to my client. You met him as your true self, Daisy Chen and as your alibi that is his loyal subordinate, Dexter.

But now that you have betrayed him, your lies have led him to having psychological issues. He can’t sleep at night...’’ the lawyer paused, face turning red in shame.

Daisy’s lips twitched. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and looked at the man, ’’Continue.’’

"He is having trust issues where he finds it difficult to trust any of his loyal subordinates and looked at them with an eye of suspicions, wondering which one of them might be another woman in disguise...’’

"_"

Eye of suspicion.

Another woman in disguise.

Knowing that those were Ryle’s own words that were framed as statements, Benjamin wondered if he could stop acknolwedging the man as his Boss for the day.

"And when he comes across women, he has issues trusting them as well. He wonders if one of them might be around him in some other disguise.

The amount of trauma he has accumulated because of your actions is unspeakable and indescribable. My client is living in constant fear and paranoia. Neither he sleeps properly nor can he eat his favourite food...’’

’’Enough,’’ Daisy cut him off, her eyes narrowing dangerously as she stepped out of the house and closed the door behind her.

The lawyer backed away on instinct, startled by the intimidating aura around the woman.

’’If he wants to play games, ask him to show up,’’ Daisy looked at Benjamin before she turned towards the lawyer, "And if he wants to sort it out legally, tell me his terms. How does he want to settle it?"

’’There are two options. First, a compensation of $50 billion and second, you sign a contract with him.’’

$50 billion dollars. Even if she sold all the properties that she owned here and there across the world, and combined it with the money she had saved over the years, the amount would not suffice.

’’What contract?" Another contract. Another snare. Daisy knew but she had no choice other than asking what the contract was about.

Ryle knew that she would not be able to afford the compensation amount that he had set so he twisted it all to his benefit. The moment he put a ridiculously high amount of billions there in the clause, he knew that it was out of option because she would not be able to afford it.

Hence, the only choice that he was providing her was the ’contract’ that his lawyer mentioned.

"A lifetime contract,’’ the man adjusted his glasses as he looked at the file twice before looking at Daisy, ’’It’s a lifetime contract that you have to sign with him to escape these allegations.’’

Daisy’s lips thinned. Even though she had not studied law, but she knew what a lifetime contract entailed.

A lifetime contract was essentially an agreement between two parties that guaranteed the terms and condition of a service or product for the duration of one’s life.

’’I thought he wanted a compensation. But if his intention is to humiliate me, then you are not worth my time,’’ Daisy opened the door and turned to step inside the house.
