Chapter 67: Daze

The gentle night breeze entered the room through the windows as the curtains rustled in the wind.

The phone placed on the bedside table vibrated. Daisy reached out to grab it with closed eyes but before she could answer the call, the call was disconnected.

Rubbing the corner of her eyes, she opened them slowly only to be greeted with a vast stretch of darkness.

Except for the moonlight filtering inside the room, there was no other source of light inside. The King sized bed was enclosed in a thick layer of sheer curtains that moved gently in the night breeze.

As Daisy sat up on the bed, she recalled the events of the day. They had checked in to the hotel early in the morning and Ryle had left soon after. Daisy finished Angel’s routine and played with the girl who seemed lethargic throughout the process.

Ryle came in between to take a shower and freshen up but he did not linger around.

After Angel ate and dozed off in the afternoon, Daisy also took a shower. She remembered she was just lying beside Angel, thinking of ordering something but somehow, she did not remember when she dozed.

Angel woke up in between a few times to seek Daisy, then the girl would sleep once again after drinking milk for some time.

Daisy massaged the back of her neck and checked her phone. There were two missed calls from Ryle.

As she checked the time, she realized that it was past midnight.

Daisy called him back immediately, ’’Sorry, I did not realize you were calling. I was asleep,’’ Usually, she was more of a light sleeper and more so in unfamiliar places, Daisy did not sleep like a log. It must be the exhaustion that took over.

’’Open the door,’’ the man’s voice sounded from the other side of the phone.

Daisy turned on the bedside lamps and got off the bed before opening the door for Ryle.

As the man stepped inside, he had a huge tray in his hand. He walked straight towards the couch area and placed the tray on the coffee table, ’’Eat.’’

Daisy blinked, ’’You... why..."

"I called you at different times of the day but you did not answer the call so I assumed that you must be sleeping.’’

’’Did you have to use the room?" Daisy questioned the man as she sat on the couch.

Ryle looked at her with a raised brow, ’’Is it necessary for you to assume that I need something from you just because I brought you food?"

"Yes,’’ As Daisy started eating, she paused for a moment, ’’You can tell me what you need.’’

’’Well, I had no such needs initially, Miss Chen but now that you have instilled the thought inside my head, I cannot seem to be able to ’unsee’ it,’’ Ryle crossed a leg over the other and leaned back on the couch as he watched the woman eating gracefully.

She was not taking the food in pea-sized bites like the socialites out there did nor was she eating like a snail. Yet, the sight of her eating somehow seemed so peaceful. Her huge messy bun was none existent and hanging near her back and long tresses of her came forward to drape her side profile like sheer curtains.

’’Ryle?"

Ryle snapped out of his reverie when he heard his name being called.

’’Mr. Harper?"

’’What did you call me just now?" Ryle looked at the woman.

’’Mr. Harper?" Daisy paused her movements.

’’Before that.’’

She thought for a moment before it dawned on her. She looked at him, slightly apologetic, ’’I called you a couple of times but you were not responding. We are not that close for me to address you by your first name,’’ with that said, she nonchalantly continued eating.

’’Call me by my name.’’

After a few seconds, the man uttered those words.

Daisy paused and looked at him, ’’What?"

"You heard me.’’

"Why would I do what you ask me to?"

Ryle paused and restrained his lips from curling up. This woman was not going to take a single loss. ’’Because Miss Chen is too troublesome for me to say. I would like to settle on your name so it is only fair that you call me by mine.’’

Daisy rolled her eyes, ’’You are fussy.’’

’’Thanks for the compliment, Daze,’’ Ryle winked.

Daisy’s brows furrowed as she looked at the man again, ’’Daze is not my name, Daisy is.’’

’’Daze sounds better. If you don’t like it, we can settle on better nicknames. For starters, how about sweetheart? Princess? Heiress?"

The corner of her brows twitched slightly, ’’Fuck off,’’ Daisy flipped him off before focusing back on the food.

Ryle restrained his smile, knowing very well that he won his point this time.

’’So, you were offering me things in return for bringing you dinner?"

’’I was not offering you anything. I was asking you if you needed anything that brought you here at this hour,’’ This man had a way of twisting her words which compelled her to over-explain things so that he would not be able to mince her words and use them to his own benefit. Ryle nodded, ’’Well, we are sharing this room, if you are forgetting that. So, I don’t need to come here only if I need something from you. I have equal rights, and I demand them.’’

’’Stop crying. You can have the couch.’’

Pleased, Ryle continued, ’’But I can also take your offer.’’

Daisy looked at him.

’’I am curious,’’ Ryle leaned back on the couch, ’’I will be honest. At one point, Maxim wanted me to find you for Diana so I had conducted an investigation about you that led to nothing.’’

How could she not know? The misery was that she, Dexter, had to investigate and look for herself, as in Daisy.

’’But I discovered that you ran from your own wedding with the third son of Lu Family after agreeing to it in the first place. Why did you change your mind?"
