Chapter 58: In the garden
There was a woman lying on the floor, blooding pooling around her head.
As Daisy looked up, she could see Diana leaning back on the headboard of the bed, the sleeves of her black gown had slipped past her shoulders as she moved her hands vigorously, to push away the man who had towered over her.
’’Fuck!" A soft curse escaped from Ryle’s mouth who witnessed the same scene when he reached the place while following Daisy, holding Angel in his arms.
But before he could make a move, he saw a shadow flashing in front of his eyes.
’Bam’
Daisy had rushed up to the man who was towering over Diana and in one swift move, she grabbed the back of his collar and swung him off her body.
"Ahh...’’
The man groaned in pain as the back of his head hit the table.
Ryle blinked. Angel who was crying loudly also became silent for a moment.
But in the next moment, she cried louder, snapping Ryle out of his daze as he awkwardly rocked her in his arms. His movements were sluggish but not unfamiliar to himself.
’’Shh...’’ Ryle pressed the little girl’s head on his shoulder so that she was no longer looking at the chaos.
’’Pa... Pa?" Little Angel whispered.
Following the girl’s whisper, Ryle turned his head to the side, ’’Max, wait!"
Alas, it was too late.
Maxim entered the room and witnessed the whole scene. There was a camera setup in the corner, an unconscious or probably dead bleeding woman was lying on the floor, and on the other side a man groaned in pain.
Maxim’s gaze settled on Daisy’s back as she hugged a woman. He could see the familiar engagement ring shining on Diana’s fingers. He did not have to see the face to know that it was Diana.
’’What did you do to her?" Maxim turned to look at the man who was lying on the floor.
The man trembled, clutching the back of his head that was throbbing by the impact of the pain of being thrown to the floor.
"I asked... What did you do to her?"
Ryle turned around and walked out of the room with Angel in his arms on cue the moment he heard the change in is friend’s voice.
As Maxim’s words landed, he pounced on the man and in a few moments, his knuckles had turned red. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
’’Ahhh!"
’’She is fine,’’ Daisy laid Diana back on the bed, ’’I came here on time. She is fine, just unconscious.’’
However, it seemed as if her words were not registering in Maxim’s head as he kept punching the man again and again in rage.
’’You are going to kill him.’’
The man showed no signs of stopping.
Daisy grabbed his wrist to halt his movements but the man almost dragged her down. ’’Maxim, if your medical license is revoked, Diana is going to blame herself for her entire life.’’
And it was only then when Maxim’s movement halted. It was as if a thread of consciousness settled inside him as he panted. Sweat trickled down his face and his hair stuck to his forehead as he glanced at the man who had long passed out.
Daisy could see his shoulders trembling. She could sense the same fear emanating off him that she had felt when she suddenly realized that Diana might be in trouble.
’’She is fine. We got here in time. I’ll get the authorities over and get to the bottom of this matter,’’ Daisy paused, ’’Take her to hospital.’’
Maxim stiffened as if the realization just dawned on him. And never had Daisy seen the man so panic-stricken, so consumed by fear before like in that moment as he hesitatingly raised his head towards Diana. A hint of relief visibly crossed his face when he saw her state. She seemed like she was just sleeping, nothing else.
He pushed himself to his feet and gently picked Diana up from the bed. As he held her in his arms, he stopped and nodded at Daisy before walking out.
Daisy looked at the entire mess in the room and her gaze stopped on the camera in the corner where an unconscious woman was lying on her stomach in a pool of blood.
Lying next to the woman was a tall flower vase that had shattered into pieces.
Daisy squatted on the floor and placed her fingers a few inches away from the woman’s nose that was covered behind her ears. Feeling the warm breath on her fingers, Daisy pushed herself to her feet.
She moved the woman’s face with the tip of her stilettos. And as she looked at the face, she found it a little familiar but she could not remember where she had seen the woman before exactly. The man who was towering over Diana when she barged inside the room was however entirely unfamiliar to her, unlike the woman.
Daisy grabbed the camera. There was only one picture of Diana in it where Diana was standing near the edge of the bed and the man was attempting to mess with her dress. The picture was blurry and Diana had her eyes half-closed.
Daisy threw the camera in the fireplace.
Hearing the sound of approaching footsteps, Daisy turned around.
Helian Chen entered the room with his secretary, ’’What’s going on?" his brows tugged together as he looked at the woman who was lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
He motioned towards his secretary and the man pressed a few numbers on his call. Within a few seconds, a few sturdy bodyguards appeared in the room. One picked the bleeding woman and left the place while the remaining men surveyed the room closely.
As Daisy and Helian Chen made their way out of the room, Daisy narrated the events to him in brief, ’’Now, Maxim has taken her to hospital and I was checking for any leads.’’
Helian Chen sighed, ’’Don’t worry. I’ll take it from here. It has been a long day for you. Go and take some rest. With Maxim around, we don’t have to worry about Diana."
’’Are you not visiting the hospital?’’
"I need to find the person responsible for all this before I can face my daughter.’’
"Do you need me to help you out...?"
Before Daisy could finish her words, she felt a warmth as Helian Chen stroked her gently, ’’I know how capable you are but I am your father. If I can’t protect my daughters, then what am I working so hard for?"
Daisy paused for a moment before she nodded once and turned to leave. However, she had just taken a few steps when she stopped, ’’I was about to call you to inform you about this situation. How did you get to know about it beforehand?"
Helian Chen quirked a brow, ’’It’s Ryle Harper. I was pretty surprised too when he approached me but he informed me about the whole situation. I thought you both were not on the best of terms but then he was also holding our little girl so I could not doubt the credibility of his words.’’
’Our little girl.’
Daisy blinked, ’’Once Diana gets better, if she wants to, we can both come over to Chen Manor for a few days.’’
Once she finished her words, she turned around and left without looking back at the man.
Helian Chen, however stood there for a long time as he looked at Daisy’s retreating back till it could not be seen anymore.
...
In the garden area in front the grand hotel.
Three muscular men knelt on the grass, holding three plates and different dishes in their hands. On the exquisitely carved wooden bench, Ryle sat with Angel sitting on his lap as he held a plate of strawberry pastry in his hand.
The little girl dipped her finger and licked it every once in a while before she looking back at him, expectantly.
And then, under her gaze, Ryle would then pick up the spoon and take a bite of the cake.
This has been the scenario since the past 30 minutes in Ryle Harper’s babysitter club.
Since he was already handed with a responsibility to handle a kid, of course he was going to be great at it then. Those were his thoughts when he ignored and promptly dodged any gore and bloody stuff and took Angel away from that room.
However, the little girl just would not stop crying.
At least not until they passed the food section where her eyes became all starry as she looked at the dessert counter.

A/N: A/N: Can’t believe we missed the winwin on last day because the timer failed me. I am so heartbroken and demotivated right now. It feels terrible ToT I don’t know what I am going to do in the upcoming month. I literally wrote through my sickness but apparently, things never workout as you plan them.
