Chapter 57: Diana is not here

’’If Miss Chen can run away from her own wedding without considering the consequences or society then I believe she is a woman of possibilities who will turn the tides in her favour and if she can’t...’’ he turned to look at Daisy as he winked, ’’Then, she will resort to more violent tactics, like threatening people. She doesn’t need a man who dares not to see her chaos and jump right into it. Or so I believe.’’

As Daisy looked at the man, she could not help but fall in a daze.

’’Mr. Harper, it seems like...’’

’’Enough, you both,’’ Daisy pulled her hand out of Ryle’s loosened grip.

As she stepped back, she glanced at both the men, ’’I don’t need the both of you to meddle in my life,’’ she then faced Ryle, ’’And I need you to stop pestering me, Mr. Harper.’’

’’You did not seem to want that a few moments ago, Miss Chen. I was holding you and you were letting me,’’ Ryle’s voice dropped to a seductive whisper.

Daisy’s lips parted, her fingers curled into a fist under the long sleeve of her suit jacket. She shot him a glare that translated to ’Shut the fuck up’.

And Ryle returned her glare with a playful smile of his own ’I refuse to’.

Lu Xian might think that he was talking about how he was holding her hand but Daisy knew what the man was referring to.

...

’’Is she still sleeping?" Daisy asked as she stepped inside the room.

After getting away from Lu Xian and Ryle, Daisy called Maxim to ask which room he had taken Angel to.

’’She woke up twice but dozed off again,’’ Maxim responded with a straight face.

Daisy halted in her tracks as she saw the lotus position Maxim was sitting in. Little Angel laid on his lap as the man rhythmically moved his leg to rock her.

’’Have you been doing this since she was stirred awake?"

"Yes.’’

’’You did not have to. You could have called me over and I would have taken her out to play around.’’

Maxim paused and with a straight face, he said, ’’She said ’sleepy’.’’

And suddenly Daisy could understand what made Diana fall headfirst for this man without any red lights. Usually, Daisy saw the man as a sly fox for seducing her sister over but then there were times like these where she knew no other man was worthy of Diana the way Maxim Warner was.

"Where is Ana?" Maxim question as Daisy picked Angel up from his lap and gently put the little girl on the couch.

’’She might have left parties but parties haven’t left her.’’

Maxim blinked.

’’Top socialite for a reason,’’ Daisy said.

’’So, is surrounded by people?" the man question.

’’The last time I saw, she was surrounded by many.’’

’’Men?" the man questioned, sounding nonchalant as he got up from the bed.

’’Plenty.’’

Maxim visibly stiffened, ’’Good-looking?" he questioned, knowing that his fiancee had soft corner for beauty aesthetics. She was an avid reader and now a trending writer after she published her book a few months ago and the reader and writer in her admired men who seemed like they had walked out of some book.

Honestly, Daisy had not paid much attention to it but as she looked at Maxim’s ruffled face, she responded with a straight face, ’’Decent.’’

And just like that, the man walked out of the room with huge strides like a gust of air.

...

When Maxim appeared in the hall, distant flashes of the cameras intensified. While all the reporters and the guests in the party knew the man as Diana Chen’s husband, some paparazzis were aware that Maxim Warner was not just the husband of Diana Chen but also the son of one of the top four families in Beijing, that is the Qin Family.

However, with his hand tucked inside his trousers, Maxim was so focused on looking for Diana that he did not bother himself with anything else.

"Yo, Maxie! You are alive? I thought you have ascended to some sixth dimension,’’ a mocking voice sounded from behind as Ryle came to stand in front of the man.

Maxim paused when he saw the man, ’’What are you doing here?" his gaze instinctively went in the direction of the room where Daisy was. Did she know that Ryle was here?

’’Catching fishies,’’ Ryle shrugged.

Maxim felt a sense of deja vu hitting him. A year ago, the same question to this man had earned him the same answer and the fish that time was Dexter.

’’Didn’t you find your secretary? Who else are you looking for in Beijing?"

’’I came here for Daisy Chen,’’ Ryle said casually as if the person being mentioned was not Maxim’s sister-in-law.

’’Why?" Maxim frowned.

’’Usually, you aren’t all that bothered with my stuff. Are you trying to make it up to me for abandoning me for your woman?"

’’Trust me I couldn’t be bothered less with you and your conquests,’’ Maxim’s tone dipped, ’’But Daisy is Ana’s sister. And I am not going to let your antics make my woman sad in any way.’’

Unbothered by Maxim’s coldness as usual, Ryle hooked an arm around his arm, ’’Man, you gotta chill more. Why do you even think anything I do is going to be bad?"

It was a question whether both the men noticed how their interaction increased the camera flashes by ten folds.

’’You mean, disaster,’’ Maxim responded to Ryle, his eyes roaming throughout the hall to look for Diana.

’’Okay, you carry on looking for her,’’ Ryle freed his hand and walked away.

Maxim turned to look at the man, contemplating whether he should tell the man to not go around looking for her elder sister but then considering that Daisy was in a room, he did not remind Ryle, knowing that he won’t be able to find them anyway.

...

’’Mommy....’’ Angel nuzzled her face in Daisy’s chest as soon as she opened her eyes and saw her.

As the little girl’s chin wobbled, looking like she was about to cry, Daisy stroked her hair gently, ’’What happened? You want to sleep more? Or are you hungry?"

The little girl nuzzled her face further in Daisy’s chest.

Daisy hugged her tighter.

The peaceful moment between the mother and daughter was interrupted by the constant rings of her phone. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Daisy was about to turn it off when she saw Maxim’s name popping up on the caller ID.

She answered the call but before she could say anything, the man spoke up from the other side, ’’Diana is not here. I cannot reach out to her phone either."

’’What do you mean she is not there?" Daisy sat up on the bed.

’’Wahhh...’’ Angel started crying by her abrupt movements.

Daisy adjusted the phone between her ear and shoulder as she picked the little girl up in her arms, ’’Diana was right there when I left,’’ As she spoke, she put on her stilettos and walked out of the room, ’’Look carefully. She might be surrounded by a bunch of socialites...’’

Her words trailed off when she was suddenly reminded about something.

’’Level 2 VIP room-111. Quick,’’ she disconnected the call and rushed in the direction of the room.

’’Wahh...’’ As if she could feel her mother’s panic and fear, Angel cried even harder.

’’Woah woah! What happened?" Ryle had just come looking for Daisy when he saw the woman rushing somewhere with the child, ’’If Angel was not your child, I would have assumed that you have stolen a child from somewhere...’’

His words were yet to finish when a soft bundle of warmth was secured in his arms. Daisy stood up on her tiptoes and kissed the little girl on her forehead, ’’Mommy will be back soon.’’

She shot a glare in Ryle’s direction wordlessly and walked away from there, leaving the man utterly speechless and shocked.

"_" Hey! At least say a word.

The way of handing a child over and communicating with the glare to take care of the child was not very normal... was it?

Unbeknownst to Ryle’s internal monologue, Daisy rushed to the room without wasting any time.

She knocked on the door twice but there was no response from inside.

Daisy reached out towards the revolver tucked near her waist in the trousers of her suit jacket. She held it one hand and adjusted the silencer with the other.

’Clang’

Daisy angled the revolver from above and aimed it just above the doorknob. With a few consecutive ’clangs’, the latch and lock feel to the floor.

Daisy raised her leg and kicked the door with a strong force.

’Bam’

The door was pushed open without the support of the latch and Daisy was greeted by the sight of something that made her hands turn cold.
