Chapter 48: An invitation
"Mommy?" Little Angel stumbled over to Daisy who entered the place with a huge bouquet of daisies.
When Daisy heard the soft voice, her stiff shoulders relaxed instinctively. She placed the bouquet near the door and knelt on the floor, spreading her arms wide for the little girl who paused, stroking her blonde hair for a few moments before she giggled and rushed into Daisy’s arms.
Daisy kissed her head and hugged her tightly. She pushed herself to her feet and twirled the girl in the air, ’’How was your day, baby? Did you bother Auntie?"
’’Mommiieew...’’ the little girl pulled back to look at the Daisy with limpid eyes as if she was bullied. With her lips wobbling, she reached out to tug the wig on Daisy’s head.
’’What happened?" Daisy tilted her head to the side, letting her pull off the wig with a little harsh tug. The girl fiddled with the wig with both her hands with her cheeks bulging and eyes shimmering in tears.
’’You, little devil, you sure have the audacity to act like you are bullied now, don’t you?" Ivy walked out of her room with her palms on her waist.
Daisy blinked, ’’What did she do?"
Ivy looked at Daisy before looking at the little girl who blinked her big limpid eyes. She rushed back into her room and walked out with a gaming console in her hand. When Daisy observed it closely, she saw that it was broken into halves.
’’This was a new one... But she just grabbed it and threw it away when I refused to give her more of your strawberry cake.’’
Daisy turned to look at the little culprit as she strode inside the living room while carrying her in her arms, ’’Did you do that?"
Angel lowered her head, playing with the wig in her hand docile.
’’Answer me,’’ Daisy’s tone became stern.
’’Mommiee,’’ Angel looked up at Daisy, her tears seemed to be second away from falling.
Ivy panicked, ’’But it was not that precious anyway. I was planning to get a new one in some time already.’’
Daisy’s stern facade melted away when met with both the people’s antics, ’’I am not responsible for any of this. You...’’ she pointed her chin at Ivy, ’’...spoil her and she acts spoiled. It’s on you both.’’
Ivy laughed awkwardly. She found kids just tolerable before and sometimes she used to do babysitting for extra pennies before she worked for Maxim. But it was not until she encountered Angel that her heart for kids changed.
When Daisy had yet to come back, Diana and Maxim used to be both work so Angel and her spent most of the time of their day together. The girl was even younger yet she seemed to be engaged and active in everything Ivy did, cutely and adorable following her around and calling her ’vi’. It was hard not hopelessly fall for the little human.
’’Wow... Such beautiful flowers,’’ Ivy’s eyes flew back towards the bouquet sitting near the door, ’’Do you have suitor, Daisy?"
’’Do I look like I will have a man chasing me?" fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
’’When did I say it has to be a man?"
Daisy rolled her eyes and hugged Angel in her arms as she sat on the couch. The girl, although usually playful, sat peacefully in Daisy’s arms and let her hug her without moving around.
’’Hmm?" Daisy’s gaze landed on a square-shaped golden box placed on the coffee table.
Ivy followed her gaze, ’’That’s an invitation.’’
Daisy leaned closer and pulled the small box up with one hand. It was intricately and elegantly designed with the words ’Invitation’ scrawled atop it in beautiful cursive.
’Click’
As it opened, a beautiful glass greeted her vision with letters engraved it in golden letters. As Daisy read through the content written in it, the calm expression on her face slowly faded and a frown appeared between her brows.
Ivy noticed the change of expressions on Daisy’s face. She had not checked the content in the box but noticing the look on Daisy’s face, she could not help but doubt if it was a good thing.
Daisy placed the box aside.
’Business Anniversary’
Those words written in bold captured Ivy’s attention and it did not take her a lot to figure out that it was the annual celebration of Chen Corporations to which Daisy was invited.
In the past year, there have been barely contacts made between Daisy and her family, as per Ivy’s knowledge. And even though she might not know about the detail, but she more or less knew that their relationship was not as good due to multiple reasons, one of the vital reasons being Angel.
"Shall I put it away?" When the silence in the living room stretched, Ivy could not help but ask.
Daisy looked at the box for some time before she nodded.
As Angel nuzzled her face in her chest, Daisy rubbed her back gently and closed her eyes. She had no idea what her those people were up to. Since her supposed wedding day, there have been no exchanges between Daisy and them. They had always tried to track Diana down and when they succeeded in it, it was revealed to them that their younger daughter was in a relationship with the doctor. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Initially they tried to separate them thinking that Maxim had an ordinary background. But Maxim was the member of the one of the four great families of Beijing, that is, the Qin Family.
Qin Family and Chen Family, for most matters were equally matched hence both took a step back and decided to not meddle in the matters of Diana and Maxim under the the adamance of Maxim’s father.
Following all those events, Daisy knew that her whereabouts were revealed to her parents as well however they never once reached out to her. Unlike Diana whom they had expectations from, she was a hopeless case for them. It had always been the case but after the truth about Angel was revealed, it had become more so like that. She was a stain to the reputation of their great family.
Hence, Daisy also tried her best to steer clear of the Chens. Her identity as Dexter served as a protection to her motives. Because if nobody knew who she was, then then nobody would draw any connection between her and the Chen Family.
She thought it would always go on like that but the invitation lying in front of her left her bewildered.
Did they want to invite her there to humiliate her?
Or was it some other beneficial plans that they had made for her after the failed marriage arrangement of the last time?
’’Throw it away,’’ Daisy spoke up when she saw Ivy picking up the box and putting it inside one of the drawers.
Ivy froze with the box in her hand as she turned to look at Daisy. Did she hear it right?
’’Throw it away.’’
Ivy looked down at the box in her hand and she could not help but think. What if it was an attempt to reconcile things from them? Would Daisy not regret it later?
Although she thought like that, she did not voice it out when she saw the determined look on Daisy’s face.
Later that night.
After Daisy tucked Angel to sleep, her and Ivy had their dinner together. With Ivy’s personality, she kept thinking about random things and although Daisy responded to her as usual, but there was no denial that she was absent-minded.
’Ring’
Ivy pushed herself to her feet, when the doorbell rang, ’’I’ll go check who is at the door.’’
To ensure that it was not Ryle again, she peeked from the peephole. But her eyes lit up when she saw the people standing outside the door.
When Ivy opened the door, she was greeted by the sight of Maxim and Diana.
Diana was not sporting her usual ’sunshine signature smile’ on her face and there was a cloud of gloom above her head as she hugged Ivy and walked past her.
Maxim, on the other hand, had an aloof expression on his face as he entered, ’’How have you been doing?"
Ivy smiled at him, ’’Pretty good.’’
’’Daisy,’’ Diana approached the woman and hugged her tightly.
’’What happened?" Daisy was taken aback by the sudden aggressive hug.
"Are you going to the annual event?" Diana pulled back to look at Daisy.
When Daisy remained silent, Diana frowned, ’’Did they not send you the invitation?" she could not help but ask.
"I am not going.’’
