Chapter 43: Aware of my identity

Daisy pursed her lips and pushed herself to stand straight but the moment she moved, a wave of dizziness washed over as she stumbled back and her vision turned black.

When Daisy opened her eyes, she was greeted the vast expanse of white in front of her. Her vision was blurry and as she tried to open her mouth to call out to someone, she realized that her throat was parched as well.

Daisy tilted her face to the side and as the curtains moved, she could see the sky was still dark. She pressed her elbows on the bed and struggled to reach out towards the glass of water from the bedside table.

Once she drank a few gulps of water, she placed the glass down and leaned back on the headboard of the hospital bed, lost in her thoughts. The last thing she could remember was she was talking with Ryle near his car. And she had stood up suddenly when she became dizzy.

The door to the hospital room opened and a doctor walked in, ’’Miss Chen, your condition is not that serious. You just had your period but while conducting tests, it seemed like you had a complicated pregnancy and you went through C-section. So, the breastfeeding and the C-section can be some of the factors why you are having painful menstrual cramps. But these things can be regulated well with some lifestyle changes. I have prescribed some medications that you can opt for if you ever experience this again,’’ the doctor paused for a moment before speaking again, "Are you feeling better now?"

Daisy looked at the woman dazedly, ’’Much better...’’

The doctor smiled and nodded, ’’Then take some more rest. I will check your condition before you leave.’’

Daisy fell into a daze. The last person who she remembered to be talking to her was Ryle.

Her face blanched. If he knew about her real identity and that she had kept him in dark all this while about being a man when she was a woman all along, then what now? After he has fulfilled his obligations of humanity by getting her to hospital, what is he going to do now?

The trail of her thoughts were interrupted by the voice.

Daisy turned her head to side, only to be greeted by the sight of a familiar face.

The man standing at the door was the very same man who saw through her disguise and then interrupted Ryle’s actions in the ballroom.

Daisy was barely conscious at that point in the ballroom but she was certain that she had not misheard the mention of ’Lu’ Family from the man’s house when he interrupted Ryle from dealing with the socialite.

’’You are awake,’’ the man strode inside the hospital room without waiting for her response.

Daisy frowned.

’’Is that a way of thanking me?"

When he saw the wary look on her face, he continued, ’’You think Ryle Harper was about to leave you alone here?" The man looked at her questioningly.

’’How did you get him to go away?" Daisy asked.

’’Nothing much. Just a series of misinformation that the lady who slapped you had done something to you which is why you ended up in hospital. A man like him would assume that that woman had conspiracies against him for her to harm his people. He left his people here to look after you and possibly left to interrogate the woman. My men are keeping his men occupied.’’

Daisy lowered her head for a moment before she looked at the man again, ’’Why did you help me?" she asked coldly.

Daisy, did not even for a moment think that these men were in any way showing her kindness just because they were kind. For Ryle, his reputation was of utmost importance. So when a woman came in the middle of a grand ball and slapped his right-hand man, of course he would take it as a slap on his face.

And the man standing in front of her was a complete stranger who happened to discover that she was a woman disguising as a man. Now, he came to her rescue when she was in crisis.
