Chapter 336: Transplant
Ryle was speechless. He felt like he was being treated like a child. All these doctors addressed Daisy as if she was his legal guardian.
Not that he minded that though.
’’Wait... what about my legs?" Ryle turned to Maxim.
’’Shouldn’t we focus on your recovery first?" Diana chimed in, taking a cue from her sister’s expressions.
Daisy nodded, ’’You should not stress over other things.’’ freewebnøvel.com
Ryle helplessly slumped his head back on the pillow. Their timely reactions only meant one thing. His legs were probably incurable.
Daisy’s heart ached.
She opened her mouth to speak but before she could say a word, Maxim spoke up, ’’His legs can be cured.’’
Ryle’s eyes narrowed when he heard that.
Daisy glanced at Maxim questioningly.
Diana also shot him a glare.
Maxim shook his head, raising both his hands in a surrendering stance, ’’I am not lying to save the situation.’’
’’But didn’t that quack say that I can never stand up again in my life?" Ryle questioned.
’’I have talked to my grandfather and sent him your reports. He will be dispatching Alex along with a team of experts. With proper treatment and care, it would not be that hard to recover completely.’’
Ryle deflated a bit, ’’I will be receiving treatment from that short fused rascal?"
Diana and Daisy exchanged glances and simultaneously looked at Ryle with pity. Alex, this younger brother of Maxim’s was as irritable as it gets. Previously, he barely had a civil relationship with Maxim even when it was not known to them that they are brothers.
He could barely stand the sight of Maxim and always competed with him. By an extension, he also disliked the people around Maxim.
It could not be helped. They had never gotten along in the first place but then their relationship was revealed. They were brothers from different mothers. Alex’s mother had passed away a long time ago and now Maxim’s mother was married to their father, Qin Zehan. It only aggravated Alex further even though he retained a shred of civility in recent times.
’’Maxie, are you sure that grumpy brother of yours won’t try to harm me in order to get to you?"
’’He would not,’’ Maxim said confidently.
’’Oh? How are you so sure?"
’’Alex should know that we are not that close.’’
’’What do you mean not that close? I am your best friend,’’ Ryle rolled his eyes.
Maxim shot him a look.
Diana burst out in laughter.
Soon, Maxim and Diana left the room, leaving Ryle and Daisy alone inside.
Ryle was lying on the bed while Daisy was seated on the couch.
’’Come here,’’ Ryle extended his hand towards her.
Daisy pushed herself to her feet and approached the man.
As she stood by the side of his bed, he held her hand and kissed it, ’’Are you going back to the mansion now?"
Daisy nodded slowly, ’’Ivy has been taking care of Angel. It must have been tough on her given the new projects that she had taken over.’’
Ryle sighed, ’’Alright.’’
’’I will bring Angel to visit you.’’
The listlessness on Ryle’s face faded.
Daisy lowered her head and whispered in his ears, ’’And we will be back soon.’’
Suddenly, there were sounds of urgent footsteps outside the door.
The door opened and Diana’s pale face came into Daisy’s view.
"What happened?" Daisy’s voice held a trace of anxiety.
’’Ivy... Ivy is here with Angel...’’
...
Outside the ICU.
’’The child’s condition is a little stable as of now due to but...’’
Daisy looked at the pediatrician, ’’What do you mean he condition is stable as of now?"
The doctor sighed, ’’Miss Chen, I have gone through Angelica’s medical history that Miss Ivy provided me with. Given her health condition, she has been receiving appropriate treatments in a timely manner. She doesn’t have severe thalassemia but rather the moderate one so logically, things should not have been this extreme. However, has she gone through something emotionally stimulating?"
Daisy’s fingers curled into a fist. Suddenly, a warm palm enveloped her fingers, holding her hand.
’’Yes.’’ Ryle said. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
’’And has she been acting strange about it?" The doctor continued asking.
Ivy immediately stepped forward, ’’I have been by her side all this time. She has not acted out of ordinary.’’
The doctor nodded, ’’Children easily move on from things and it seems like they have reverted back to their normal self. But major incidents often leave their impact on them in other ways,’’ she pointed her hand in the direction of the room, ’’Even after being sedated, she was flinching and crying for some time. That’s her body’s response to these traumatic experiences. This stimulation has resulted in her health condition being triggered so badly.’’
Ryle tightened his grip on Daisy’s hand, ’’What should we do now?"
’’The only permanent cure for her condition while preventing future complications is a bone marrow transplant....’’ With a small pause, she added, ’’For ordinary transplants, any compatible donor can provide stem cells. But in the patient’s case, we have to opt for a haploidentical stem cell transplant...’’
’’What are you trying to say?" Daisy questioned.
"Before we proceed, we need to search for a close stem cell match. Once the consent form is signed, we’ll begin testing potential donors, but I have to be honest—it won’t be easy. Finding a perfect match is always difficult, especially outside the immediate family."
The doctor paused for a moment before continuing, "Since thalassemia is inherited, the parent who carries the gene must be tested first. This will help maximize the chances of finding a compatible donor. If we’re lucky, we may find a match within the family."
’’The child’s condition has been stabilized for now so you have a day to make the decision but still, time is critical. The sooner we find a match, the better the baby’s chances of survival."
After the doctor left, Daisy felt a little weak in her legs. She sat on a nearby chair and buried her face in her palms.
Everyone was lost in their own thoughts. Suddenly, the happiness of Ryle’s recovery was replaced with a somber atmosphere that had descended upon everyone.
