Chapter 283: Changed
Daisy glanced at him silently. If she had to be honest, there was nothing she held against Lu Xian. He might or might not have done questionable things in the past, like the time when she was still adjusting to business, and he showed up at the shareholders’ meeting, taking control of Chen Lina’s shares.
That night had made her wary of him, but she didn’t necessarily go easy on him afterward. She also acquired a percentage of Lu Corporation’s shares, which at the time had been a significant blow to him as well.
But aside from that, if she really considered their past, Lu Xian could be counted as one of the few friends she had. Since the first time she met him, the man—regardless of his intentions or ulterior motives—had only ended up helping her.
Whether it was when he took her to the hospital before she discovered her pregnancy, or when she was hiding her secret of being a woman from Ryle, he helped her with that, too.
No harm was done, and with no harm done, there were no grudges held.
Lu Xian hesitated for a long while, as if he was trying to figure out what to say or how to say it, before he shook his head helplessly. "I... Forget it. Those are things of the past. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to explain myself properly, but all I know is you’re a good friend, Daisy. And that’s exactly why I came here, to seek some closure. But it seems we’re destined to go there together."
Daisy turned to him, part curious, part amused. "You look different than the last time we met." Back then, he still had the aura of a man in control, someone stubborn and persistent in his ways. But now, he seemed more laid-back, like someone trying to let go. And there was a hint of anticipation in his actions, an impatience.
"Things happen. People change."
"I’m sorry... about your family."
"You don’t have to be," Lu Xian said, shaking his head as if she had mentioned someone else’s family. "But tell me, how do you think I’ve changed?"
Daisy arched a brow, then answered, "You seem like you know what you want now, rather than confusing it with what you think you want."
Lu Xian chuckled softly, his eyes still on the road. "Then, in that case, you’ve changed too."
"Oh?"
"You seem like you know what you want now, rather than denying what you should and shouldn’t want."
The words exchanged between them were vague, yet it was clear that both understood the insinuations behind them. But their lack of further discussion on the matter showed that they refused to address it.
The car sped through the city streets, the destination unknown, the purpose unclear. But both seemed to know exactly what—or more precisely, who—they were heading toward.

*Flashback*
"Is this where you’re staying?" Lu Xian asked the woman.
The woman refused to get out of his car, clinging to him the entire ride. Her hands and feet wandered over his body, and as much as he hated to admit it, his self-restraint was running thin.
The influence of a devil will turn you into a devil too, he thought, asking her once more where she wanted to go. He didn’t expect much of an answer. He waited for her usual flirtatious or snide remarks, but after a while, she gave him an address.
He was stumped for a few seconds, an odd feeling rising in his chest. He didn’t know where the discomfort came from. Lu Xian frowned, shifting in his seat. Didn’t she say she found him pathetic and would stay by his side? How did she so easily agree to leave now? Was she having mood swings? What did she take him for? ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
The line of his thoughts made him even more uncomfortable. Fearing he might act out of character, he drove her to the hotel, which seemed rather low-key.
"Mhm," the woman hummed as she stepped out of the car. "I’m staying here for now."
Lu Xian didn’t respond. Where she stayed had nothing to do with him. He pressed the accelerator, intending to take a U-turn when she knocked on the windshield.
He lowered the window and gave her an impatient look.
"What? Are you so eager to chase me away after I swallowed your cum?" she asked in a voice that feigned heartbreak, causing Lu Xian to grit his teeth.
How can someone be so... hateful? He had never felt the urge to hit a woman before. Or spank her.
Lu Xian frowned at the direction of his thoughts and remained silent, waiting for her to speak. Whatever she wanted, she would say it.
She didn’t disappoint. "Come inside for a drink. I have things to discuss with you."
And just like that, Lu Xian found himself following her into the hotel, which was eerily quiet, except for the staff members who greeted her in passing. She didn’t acknowledge them, walking ahead arrogantly, just as she had the first time they met.
The further they walked inside, the more luxurious the hotel appeared, despite its discreet exterior. She led him to a room, and as he stepped inside, she closed the door behind him.
Lu Xian stood there for a moment before adjusting his shirt sleeves and walking to the couch. He took a seat and crossed one leg over the other.
No words were exchanged as the two remained silent in the room, doing their own things.
She moved to the corner to fetch a bottle of wine, while Lu Xian sat there, his eyes tracing her movements, consciously or unconsciously. When she suddenly turned, he quickly looked away and picked up a magazine from the coffee table.
"You seem to be faring better than I expected. At least you’re trying to read," she said, dimming the lights until only a single faint glow remained. "But you don’t have to force yourself."
"I don’t know what gave you the impression that I’m forcing myself," he said, shifting his attention from the magazine to meet her gaze.
She blinked, and then sighed, sending him a pitiful gaze.
