Chapter 271: Mommy... kiss

On cue, Angel leaned into his arms, rubbing her face before she turned to look at her mother, a small pout forming on that little mouth.

Daisy massaged the spot between her brows as she looked at the pair of big and small devils who were looking at her pitifully. She did not have the heart to expose them but she was still bemused by their coordination in this exaggerated acting.

As if she did not know the instances when her daughter cried. The more Angel grew up, the further she matured, even in the matter of a few months. Unlike when she used to bawl when she was hungry as a toddler, now she would just say it and wait, sulk if it was delayed, not shedding a single tear. She only had very few instances of crying and those were all linked to parting with loved ones.

Back when Ivy had gone for her new job, Angel had cried till she fainted. When Ryle had gone back to the US, Daisy had kept the girl distracted but she would still cry. Sometimes when she missed Diana and Maxim, she would be on the verge of tears but Daisy would facetime them before the girl could shed a drop of tear.

But Angel rarely cried for her. It was as if there was a mutual understanding between them that no matter how busy she was, she would come back to find her once she was done with her work. Daisy had initially felt like she was seeing too much into it but at times, she felt like Angel understood her and supported her in her own way. She did not kick up a fuss even when she did not see her for a longer period at times.

Seeing that Daisy was quiet, Ryle sighed, ’’She kept crying and I was so worried...’’

There it was. The second lie.

Daisy’s lips twitched.

She was somewhat reluctant to admit it but her daughter was a little traitor who somehow preferred Ryle over her at times. The girl was too at peace with him for him to be worried when she kicked a fuss. She had not believed it when Diana used to complain about it when Angel was a toddler, that the little traitor would calm down in Maxim’s arms and kick a fuss in hers. But now, Daisy did.

Moreover, Angel was fond of Maxim. But with Ryle, she had another level of rapport, like right now, the both of them together were trying to dupe her into believing their nonsense. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

By this point, Ryle would be a fool if he did not understand that Daisy was not buying their crap.

He walked round the desk and leaned back on it, ’’We missed you.’’

Daisy tilted her head to look at him and all the words of reprimand got stuck in her throat. Forget it.

She pushed herself to her feet. She was not going to pretend as if she did not like having these two here.

She stood up and took Angel from the man’s arms. Angel wrapped her small arms around Daisy’s neck and smothered her face with a few wet kisses, ’’Mommy... Mommy... kiss...’’

Daisy’s lips arched up, ’’Have you been a bad girl?"

’’Good... girl,’’ the girl took her time but articulated every word correctly.

Daisy smiled and kissed her cheeks and then forehead.

’’Mommy... thank thank...’’

Ryle smiled proudly, ’’Sweetheart, don’t you think our little princess is just getting smarter and smarter in my presence?"

Daisy chuckled, ’’So narcissistic.’’

But there was no denial that the little girl really was improving rapidly in everything in mere days by leaps and bounds. She was progressing too fast. She was good at observing whatever she saw and she learnt well. And she had developed a keen interest in computers as well.

Both Ryle and Daisy had noticed that whenever Daisy worked on computers, Angel would sit and stare very patiently. Daisy had halted the illegal activities from before, hacking and all after she took over her current position in Chen Corporations.

And unless there was a dire need, she did not engage her hands in it but when she did, Angel looked at it with even more concentration.

Both Ryle and Daisy were intrigued by it.

’’Where is my kiss?" Ryle asked her teasingly.

Daisy glanced at him and balanced Angel on one arm before she placed her palm on the back of his neck and leaned in, placing a soft kiss on his lips.

Ryle’s heart thumped.

No matter how many times she took initiative like this and how many times she kissed him right when he asked her to, Ryle simply could not get accustomed to it.

Ryle looked dead into her eyes, itching to pinch that chin and kiss her till he would not look at her like she he was dying and she was his source of life. Impossible. He would always crave for her the same as if he was an addict and she was his addiction.

Ryle restrained himself, inhaled a deep breath and broke their eye contact when Angel twisted her little head and looked at them, blinking, as if she could not comprehend the silent tension in the air.

Same, little princess, same. Ryle wanted to tell her. Even he did not know why with every moment he spent with Daisy, his situation was growing more precarious. This tension between them was so potent that he could feel the fire spreading in his chest and he was certain she could feel it too.

’Ring’

The ringing of the phone broke the tension in the air. Daisy removed her grip from his neck and walked back to sit on her swivel chair with Angel on her lap.

’’I will take this call,’’ Ryle loosened his collar and walked out of her office the moment she nodded.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. He would lose it if he breathed the same air as her for another moment. She must be still sore from the night before.
