Chapter 261: Very fond of you
How did he make such a deduction? Benjamin could not decipher.
’’Look at the glass of water,’’ Ryle said, without averting his gaze from it.
Benjamin lowered his body, his eyes catching the hint of barely discernible white powder on the rim of the glass, ’’She spiked it? But with what? Poison? Drugs...?" he paused for the briefest moment before turning to look at Ryle, ’’...Is it aphrodisiacs?"
’’I don’t know,’’ Ryle tilted his head to the side, ’’You can take a few sips to check.’’
Benjamin almost choked on his own saliva. He shot up to his feet without wasting another second, ’’Cough... Boss, what should we do...’’
’’Track the person she contacted and get them in. I want them breathing. But if they are dead, I want to see a corpse.’’
A chill crept down Benjamin’s spine when he saw the look on Ryle’s face. There seemed to be a suppressed storm within him.
...
’’You are back,’’ Aunty Lu greeted Ryle and took his jacket off him as the man strode towards the couch.
Ryle nodded.
’’Young Master, shall I prepare supper for you?" The butler quickly approached to greet him.
Ryle glanced at him.
’’Missy left in a rush for work but she instructed us to prepare supper for you because you missed the breakfast,’’ the butler smiled, rather slyly at first before he hid it behind a more polite front, ’’I asked her if we should opt for preparing brunch for you but missy was worried since you had already missed breakfast and you might not have an appetite for a heavy brunch. So, she specifically instructed to prepare some light supper before you have your lunch.’’
Even the walls of Chen Mansion could see that the butler had no intentions of hiding his matchmaking skills from anyone.
"Alright, have it arranged.’’
Hearing Ryle’s words, the butler smiled even more pleasantly. Nose diving into clouds, he turned around and walked away.
Ryle finally shifted his gaze to the couch further away from the spot where he was sitting. Angel sat on the couch in front of the telly, watching some new show that he was clueless about.
He was well aware of kids shows, for one part. When he saw his little sister for the first time, she wrapped her entire palm around his finger and at that time, he had been determined to go through everything for her.
So, it became his business what she would eat, what she would wear and his visions were far fetched too. He went as far as scourging through all kids shows and personalizing a list of shows that she would be watching when she grew up. And he would be right there by her side so that he could explain things to her the moment she got confused about something.
That list disappeared. That day never came. And the little sister who was all the happiness and hope that he had, left too.
’’She has been rather cheerful today,’’ Aunty Lu spoke up today, ’’Probably, she completed her sleep and she was undisturbed throughout or perhaps because she got to meet Daisy before she left for work, Angel has been happy.’’
Before Ryle realized, he had pushed himself to his feet and he was walking towards the telly. The couch dipped as he sat beside the little girl. She did not look at him. Her entire attention was on the telly but the little girl scooted closer to him and placed her head on his lap, curling up near him.
’’She is very fond of you...’’ Aunty Lu sighed upon witnessing the scene but when she saw Ryle’s lost expression, she could not make sense of it. Usually, the man would have picked Angel up right away and showered her with praises and affections till the girl giggled and swayed her legs.
But there was something different about Ryle at that moment. Aunty Lu could not figure it out. The man had forbidden her from addressing him formally as ’sir’ or ’master’ as she used to before. He told her she was like a friend to his mother so she should treat him like a family, not an employer. And while it had touched her heart, she knew that Ryle was no longer the young boy she was familiar with.
He was broken back then but the mask he wore was not perfect. Sometimes, he would let some emotions slip through it. freēwebnovel.com
But now, whether these years had done him damage or good was still unknown because his mask was perfected. He did not show what he felt and nobody could guess it either.
Ryle looked at the little girl in a daze. Her striking blonde hair overlapped with the picture he had accessed on his phone just some time ago. And he sat there frozen, unmoving, till she looked up at him.
Her little mouth moved and she snuggled up to him, as if to seek more of his warmth, or demand it from him when he did not pull her into his arms like he usually did.
Her chin wobbled and she looked like she almost was about to cry.
For a fact, Ryle knew she was not going to cry. He was too accustomed to her antics. When the girl cried, her eyes would go red first and then she would cry without any warning. But when she had to get things done her way, she would do that. Wobble her chin and make puppy eyes.
Yet, despite knowing that, Ryle felt his hand moving on its own, wanting to hold her in his arms.
But just as he was about to hold her, her small mouth moved, ’’Daddy?" she blinked her huge eyes at him.
Ryle’s hand paused mid-air.
Aunty Lu’s surprised gasp broke the silence in the living room. In her eyes, this was the first time she saw Angel addressing Ryle in this manner.
Aunty Lu was bewildered at this. She was also terrified. While she knew that Ryle and Daisy shared a special relationship, this... was too fast. Hence, she took the matter into her own hands, ’’Ah... little girl, he is not...’’
