Chapter 252: Mom

’’And I am... really happy in the present,’’ Daisy’s lips parted slightly.

Ryle was quietly listening to her words, letting them sink in his heart until she uttered the last line in that sultry tone, her gaze suggestive as she looked at him.

’Thump’

He could hear his heart beating like the organ was a fucking a rattledrum.

Ryle did not know if he was being delusional again or if this woman was really trying to seduce him.

Yet, before his thoughts could trail any further, Daisy wiped the smile off her face, ’’So, you don’t need to worry about me.’’

’’Ivy seems fine now. But I will handle it if there is some situation. Asking Maxim for help would be fine but they have a baby to take care of now. Moreover, I am afraid he would dupe Diana into marrying him soon so it is better that we don’t disturb them now.’’

As Daisy spoke, she walked past him, her shoulder brushing against his skin very briefly, where deliberately or not, Ryle did not know but his body was already heating up.

’Think no evil. Think no evil. Think no evil. You are supposed to be upset. Calm your lust. Damn. Stop thinking about making love to her. No, don’t even daydream about pinning her to the wall and fuc—’

The chants in his head turned more and more bizarre and Ryle could only keep himself grounded with the support of the little doll he held in his arms.

’’Ryle...’’

Daisy’s voice was rather soft, so soft that it sounded ticklish.

’’Angel is already asleep and she won’t be in a good mood if her nighttime sleep is interrupted. Don’t just stand there holding her like that. Help me put her in the bed,’’ she almost whispered, bringing her hair to the front of her shoulder. free𝑤ebnovel.com

Ryle’s gaze settled on the back of her unblemished neck that seemed to be calling out to him. His throat bobbed up and down.

She walked in the direction of her bedroom and he followed her like a bewitched puppet walking behind its puppeteer.

’’Oh... A-Alright.’’

’’I will go take a shower. My body feels sore,’’ Daisy said as Ryle placed Angel on the bed and tucked her under the blankets, his movements gentle and patient towards the little girl even while his heart was in a fluster because of her mother.

The room was dimly lit and Daisy’s figure seemed hazy as she stood near the darkness of the bathroom entrance.

Ryle was about to avert his gaze from her when she moved her arms and gently tugged off the dress from her body, letting it slide down her waist. It hung low on her hips, gathering atop her bottom. She slid her fingers on her curve, gliding them under the fabric and the dress slid down her legs, pooling near her ankles.

In the haze, Ryle could see her soft silhouette, the delicate curves.

Before he could let his gaze roam any longer on her, the woman walked past him and entered the bathroom.

Ryle gulped, and averted his gaze, his heart hammering like it would burst out of his body any other moment.

Daisy stood near the bathroom door in the darkness, taking in the sight of his flustered expressions and her lips curved up slightly.

After taking a long look at the man, she walked to the bathroom mirror and switched on the lights before dimming it to the lowest settings.

Daisy looked at her reflection in the mirror quietly for a moment, her gaze tracking over to the hickeys that Ryle had left on her back at Caleb’s place.

The conversation she had with him outside played in her head and after standing there, staring at her reflection for a long time, Daisy’s feet moved.

She grabbed a bathrobe from the nearest shelf before she picked up her phone.

Daisy scrolled through the exchanges that she had with her father. The last one was weeks ago. They have all been brief, only asking about each other’s well-being and yet not delving too much into each other’s lives.

Perhaps the distance between them had grown too much over the years or perhaps it was just the revelation of her parents’ past that left Daisy in a complicated position.

Things used to be easy when she saw them as the wrong people. Growing up, her father neglected them, his family while her mother was abusive. And it was easier to resent them for that than knowing that they were broken people too, that something destroyed them too.

While it never justified their actions towards her and Diana, it still did not make them the villains of their story when they adored them like any normal parents adored their child.

Hating them was not convenient anymore and warming up to people you have been estranged with for decades was tough. More so when they were broken and you are clueless on how to heal them.

Perhaps her father knew it would come down to this. Daisy thought. Maybe that is why he never revealed the past.

Daisy put her hesitation to a halt and dialed the number.

After a few rings when the call was not answered, Daisy was about to disconnect the call.

But the moment she distanced the phone from her ear, a feminine voice sounded from the other side.

’’Hello...’’ The voice was full of hesitation.

Daisy’s lips parted when she heard the familiarly unfamiliar voice.

’’Hello...?" the person repeated in a soft voice.

’’Mom,’’ the person on the other side was none other than Alice Chen. Daisy recognized her voice right away but there was a calm and gentleness to her voice that Daisy had never heard before.

There was a long pause on the other side.

Daisy distanced the phone from her ears and checked the call to make sure that it was yet to be dropped.

’’Did you call me...’’ Alice mumbled some incoherent phrases under her breath, not completing her sentence.
