Chapter 251: Tension in the air
Ryle’s eyes darkened. He turned around and glanced at Daisy, ’’Fire him.’’
’’Huh?" Daisy glanced at him, her eyes widening, ’’Are you talking to me now?"
Ivy: "_" You... Aren’t you focusing on the wrong thing here?
’’Fire him,’’ Ryle repeated calmly.
Daisy finally heard his words this time and she almost doubted if she was hearing it right, ’’He is the COO. I cannot just...’’ frёewebηovel.cѳm
’’You are the CEO. You can.’’
’’On what note?"
’’He is sick in the head.’’
’’I will need authenticated reports to prove that,’’ Daisy chuckled softly, finding the man adorable.
Ryle’s brows tugged together.
Daisy crossed her arms in front of her chest and leaned closer to him till their lips were barely inches apart.
Her abrupt approach made him freeze momentarily, his thoughts crashing as his breathing hitched. His gaze dropped to her lips and as she leaned in, his eyes closed instinctively.
But after a few seconds passed, he did not feel anything on his lips.
He opened his eyes only to watch Daisy kissing Angel on the cheek before she stepped back, a hint of a smile lingering on her lips, ’’If you can step in as the COO of Chen Corporation, perhaps only then will I be able to consider firing your uncle,’’ she shrugged a shoulder.
Ryle’s heart skipped a beat at her charming gesture. His mind raced with ideas. Bizarre as it was, he was considering giving up his billion dollar company for this deal. Fuck! What COO? He would willingly become her assistant if she just asked him to.
Ivy closed her eyes and walked away, lamenting to her. Was this love or nepotism? Sigh... Should single people just die?
The dinner was although enjoyable with Ivy and Caleb filling in the gaps and Angel’s TV shows and her occasional giggles in the backgrounds, there was still an underlying tension in the air about the incident that took place earlier. But nobody brought it up as if it did not happen at all.
Back in Chen Mansion.
’’That was one hell of a day,’’ Ivy splayed on the couch as soon as they entered the place, her other hand reaching out inside her bag.
She grabbed the face wipes and swiped them across her face, removing the makeup as she spoke, ’’I thought it would escalate but somehow nothing happened, but still the dinner felt so stressful.’’
’’Take it as a lesson for not having urges to snoop around people’s secrets,’’ To Daisy’s words, Ryle naturally had no reaction. He looked as if he was uninvolved in the whole matter.
Ivy had a guilty conscience though. She coughed twice.
’’Why do you have such dark circles? Have you not been sleeping at night again?"
Once Daisy voiced the question, Ivy stiffened slightly but then an awkward smile crept on her face, ’’I am new to the job and I have been enthusiastic about the new game that I am working on. It keeps me up sometimes,’’ she rubbed her eyes as she yawned.
"Have you been to the doctor I had recommended to you some time ago?"
Ivy nodded, ’’He prescribed some medications for my insomnia and my condition seems much better now.’’
Daisy paused for a moment when she heard that. Nodding slowly, she said, ’’If you are still having troubles, I will make an appointment with a team of renowned psychologists...’’ she trailed off for a moment before letting out a sigh, ’’So, just let me know.’’
Ivy enveloped Daisy in a tight hug, smiling brightly, ’’I am doing good.’’
Daisy watched her sprinting away to her room and she shook her head.
’’Even if you want to help her, you can get other doctors.’’
Hearing Ryle’s words, Daisy turned around to look at him. Her heart fluttered a bit when her eyes met his concerned gaze. All that tough boy persona he was sporting while trying to ignore her yet he could not stop being fussy the moment things went a little haywire.
The team of psychologists that Daisy talked about were familiar with the Chen Family. They had tried to proceed with Alice’s treatment in the early days of her condition. Although they could not carry on with their treatment because of Alice’s threats which led to Helian Chen discontinuing her treatment as she wished and let her do whatever she wanted but still, those doctors were some of the best.
’’Doctors who haven’t sold their loyalty to the Chen Family are not trustworthy,’’ As Daisy, she could go anywhere, interact with anyone and get treated by any random doctor but being Daisy Chen left scope for plenty of unpredictable things.
Although nobody attacked her in an upfront manner and the situation at the company was not chaotic anymore, Daisy knew that the wolves always lurked in the dark, waiting for a chance to pounce on their prey.
And she knew to protect the people around her, she had to stay on guard against every unpredictability.
Ryle’s brows furrowed slightly, ’’Don’t worry. I can reach out to Maxim if you are worried about Ivy. He is also close to her so he can arrange doctors for her. You don’t have to invite that particular team over for her.’’
’’Are you being so worried now?" Daisy smiled slightly, taking a step close to the man.
Ryle averted his gaze.
Daisy’s smile grew wider, ’’What happened with my mother is a thing of the past. I wish it had never happened and I wish she was not harmed to the extent of insanity but I cannot fix it, Ryle. I cannot change it so I am not going to hold onto it anymore. Leading the Chens seemed like a hectic thing to do before but now it seems alright. I am fine with it because deep down, I am assured that my parents are together, healing each other, catching up on the times they lost and they are happy. And I also know that I have people with me who will be there for me. I have you.
So, even if I see that particular team of psychologists or anything related to the past, I won’t be upset. Or sad the way I was when I discovered the truth in the hospital. I have let the past go.’’
Daisy spoke all the words unhurriedly.
