Chapter 244: Daddy

Caleb chuckled when he saw his reactions.

The sound of it was rather grating to Ryle’s ears but he chose to ignore it.

’’It has been years since I have lived here and I am rather attached to this place. Since I rarely had visitors before, I never realized how troublesome it can get,’’ Caleb shook his head, ’’Your father has been here before but that man barely is the whiny kind,’’ he said to Daisy.

Ryle’s face darkened. Is this man calling him whiny? Not that he had any issues with it, but if words of it were to reach Helian Chen’s ears then what reputation would he be left with?

Not that the man liked him much anyway but he had yet to know about him dating his daughter. The implications would already be disastrous without Caleb adding fuel to the fire.

’’I am not complaining,’’ Ryle tilted his chin to the side, looking around the place as he casually said, ’’But my little princess gets easily frustrated with long walks.’’

The little princess who was just stirred awake and was rubbing her eyes in Daisy’s arms looked at everyone blankly, her big eyes blinking.

Caleb looked at Daisy who nodded.

’’But since she was sleeping, it was not troublesome,’’ Daisy added.

Truth to be told, Ryle was not lying technically. Angel was equally averse to walks as Ryle.

Of course, with her, both never complained or kicked fuss but apparently, Caleb did not get such treatments.

Ryle promptly took Angel from Daisy’s arms and kissed her forehead without any guilt. He was doing it for her sake as well. If he does not stabilize his position in the Chen Family, then his little princess’ grandfather will probably arrange potential husbands for her mother.

While a few dead bodies won’t matter in the long run, it was better to not get all bloody if things could be sorted with peace.

Hence, his little princess won’t mind a few white lies. frёeωebɳovel.com

Angel blinked at him, wrapped her little arms around his neck and hugged him obediently, ’’Daddy..’’

The air in the living room froze.

Ryle’s easygoing expressions were long replaced by dead astonishment.

’’What... What did you call me?"

Everyone’s attention was on the little girl.

As her little mouth moved again, all of them waited with bated breath to hear what she would say. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

But whether on purpose or not, Angel yawned and curled her little lips, as if satisfied having gotten them all dumbfounded. Then, she leaned into Ryle’s arms and lazily swayed one leg back and forth.

Ryle stood still, entirely thunderstruck. He might or might not have tried to coax Angel sneakily to change her way of addressing him.

It was perhaps not the right thing to do but Ryle had never been a pioneer of righteousness and morality. This mother-daughter pair were his to keep, his to pamper and they were all his love and adore.

It would not hurt to try his luck every once around both Daisy and Angel.

Hence he had been sneakily teaching Angel to address him as ’Daddy’ a long time ago.

When he started this part-time job of his, he thought it would be easy. Angel addressed Diana and Maxim as ’Mama’ and ’Papa’ and moreover, she was too young. Just how difficult will it be for her to notice this blindingly bright daddy who was ready to sweet her mommy off her feet in front of her?

Hell, did he reconsider his thoughts? He did. As young as Angel was, even though she had yet to speak properly, she had great comprehensive abilities. There were times when Ryle felt like she could understand every part of their adult conversation given the way she sat there like a quiet doll, observing the people talking.

But then he would usually shrug it off as an illusion. She was simply too obedient and well-behaved, he would convince himself.

But man, was he wrong?

’Call me daddy, little princess. How difficult can it be? Don’t you call your mommy, mommy? Don’t you see that your mommy likes me? I like you both as well. Does that not make me your daddy?’ he convinced the little girl once, even though at that time his heart had simply been delusional. Daisy liked him? More like, he was dreaming. He was unsure of what she felt.

But after all his convincing, the child looked him dead in the eyes, grinned and said a single word, ’Raaeeel...’

...

Caleb went to make preparations for the dinner. Ivy was sitting with them until she got a phone call. Angel was engaged with the telly which played ’Frozen’, her recent favorite.

Daisy and Ryle sat on the couch, each immersed in their own thoughts.

After Angel addressed Ryle as ’Daddy’, she did not repeat it again no matter how he urged her and that almost made him believe that he was hallucinating it but he knew he was not. Not with all the eye witnesses that had gathered there.

Daisy had not spoken a word ever since then and that made Ryle feel like he was sitting on pins and needles.

It was one thing that he did not care much about what the world thought about him. But he did not want to be misunderstood by Daisy. Hell, what was worse is that, even if Daisy assumed that he taught Angel all those things, that would not be a misunderstanding because he really was the culprit.

Except, she would see him as a desperate man. And, that, too, would not be a misunderstanding at all.

After fidgeting and thinking for a long time, Ryle could not sit still anymore.

’’About what...’’

’’That...’’

Both of them spoke up at the same time.

Ryle paused, the corner of his lips lifting up, ’’You go first.’’

Daisy’s lips parted. After a beat, she said, ’’What happened earlier...’’

Ryle mentally closed his eyes.

’’It might be my fault.’’

Her words made his eyes open. Wide.
