Chapter 132: A call

"Brother-in-law?" Daisy frowned.

"What? Don’t tell me you plan to abandon him and run away like you did in the past when you were disguised as Dexter,’’ Diana laughed died when Daisy remained silent, ’’You really don’t plan to do that, do you?"

’’I don’t,’’ Before Diana could let out a sigh of relief, Daisy continued, ’’But I don’t see a future with him.’’

’’You are staying with him. He seems good with you and Angel both.’’

’’I don’t have any plans of marrying or settling down but even if I had, it would not be with him,’’ Daisy paused for a moment before she continued, ’’He is all fun and good but he is not my type.’’

Diana felt like it was a pity. If she did not have the idea of Daisy and Ryle together, she would have never imagined the possibility of them happening. But after seeing them together, she felt like it would be such a great pity if they missed out on each other.

She did not know what their equation was like so she could only rely on Daisy’s account of the whole thing and conclude that feelings could not be forced. If Daisy was not really into him, then there was no point in discussing random things.

Diana and Maxim soon left and Ryle also left for work.

Even when it was night-time, Daisy did not see Ryle around.

Instead, Aunty Lu kept her company and insisted on giving her a head massage. The woman talked about Ryle’s childhood and oddly enough, Daisy was intrigued by what the man was like when he was young so she also paid attention.

’’Why did you go to your hometown suddenly?" Daisy could not help but ask as the woman massaged her head.

’’Ojai is not my hometown but I had spent a part of my childhood there. I had some sort of belonging to the place. After Madam passed away, it did not feel the same anymore and I did not know where else to go. So, I went to Ojai.’’

Daisy understood that the ’Madam’ she was referring to was none other than Ryle’s mother, ’’What about your family?"

"I am an orphan. I used to have a father but he was a gambler. He always used to be in debt when we lived in Shanghai. There was one time when the creditors came home looking for him but he was not around, so they wanted to take me as a replacement.

I fled from that place but they kept chasing after me. That was the first time I encountered Madam. She seemed to have been keen on saving me. She ordered her bodyguards to threaten those people away and she took me out of that hell.

She used to study in Shanghai. After she took me to her place, she gave me clothes, and food and even asked her people to look for the whereabouts of my father...’’

Talking of that, Aunty Lu seemed rather casual as if it was not her life that she was discussing.

"Did they find your father?" Daisy glanced at Angel who was sitting on the carpet and scribbling on the paper with a few colored pencils.

’’He had passed away while drinking on some abandoned street. I had dropped out of my college at some point but Madam made me continue my education again. So, when she got married and came to the US, I also tagged along. I wanted to pay her back by serving her for my whole life,’’ the woman softly said while tying Daisy’s hair in a loose braid.

"Those were some good days. Even though the circumstances were not as pleasant, but when Madam was alive, she somehow made it possible for everyone to find their happiness.’’

Daisy patted the woman’s back.

"But I am really happy that you and Master seemed to have made up,’’ Aunty Lu sighed. She did not know the situations under which Daisy was staying at Ryle’s place but she could see how much importance the latter paid to her, ’’In fact, sometimes, he just does not show that he cares but the ones that he pays attention to will always be in his heart, just like his fiancee. Just thinking of the times when I have seen him being mean to her, I could not have said that their relationship would last long...’’

Aunty Lu shook her head exaggeratedly as she stood up from the bed and started cleaning the mess that Angel had caused on the floor.

The slight change in Daisy’s expression went unnoticed by the woman.

’’Fiancee?"

’’Yes, Master got engaged to Miss Queens when they were young. And he used to be so cold to her back then that I thought they would drift apart from that relationship as they grew up,’’ Aunty Lu paused and looked at Daisy as she spoke, ’’Or at least, like normal children, hold a grudge against each other till they grew up and looked back at their actions to laugh at it. But when I saw them together today, it seemed like they got along rather well.’’

’’When?" Daisy questioned softly.

’’When Master left for work today, he went in her car. You were in your room so you missed the chance to see them together,’’ Aunty Lu shook her head, finding it to be a pity, ’’I almost could not recognize her but she recognized me first and she even greeted me. They looked so good together, Daisy. If Madam was around, she would have been happy to see Master with the girl she acknowledged back then.’’

Daisy nodded, "Perhaps.’’

’’Haish... Girl, you don’t even interrupt me. Look at me talking for hours. I need to prepare dinner.’’

The woman scurried out of the room and the place sunk in silence.
