Chapter 139: Frustrated
Amy’s POV
The good news was that progress was being made.
The bad news was that it was not the kind of progress that Amy had been hoping for.
Instead of them moving things along when it came to getting Vivian and Ryan Terrell back together.
She and Mark had instead progressed from meeting at the bank to going to a nearby upscale cafe. It was absolutely not the kind of progress that she had been hoping for. But she was trying to look on the bright side.
After taking a sip of her amazing coffee, Amy put the cup down on a coaster and looked over at Mark. He looked as done with everything as she felt. After having to contend with negative feelings on her own. She was glad to be with someone who was in a similar situation.
"You know, for some reason last time when we met, I left feeling like the next time we saw each other, everything would be all sunshine and roses between Vivian and Ryan,"
Staring at her over the steam rising from his tea cup, Mark nodded.
"I too held the same belief. But it seems that we have both been proven wrong. Did you at least manage to tell her that Ryan was not cheating on her? That Gwendolyn Stuart the fourth was just being the awful person that she has always been,"
Amy nodded. "What about you? Does Ryan know of his ex’s involvement in all of this?"
Mark nodded.
And Amy could not help but huff in frustration.
"They’d had a good thing going, even if it was something not serious. Then Ryan wanted to take things to the next level and Vivian was all for it. Trust me, if it had not been for the misunderstanding she would have said yes. Now they are finding out that they can still have that. Why are they not running into each other’s arms right now? What am I missing here?" She asked Mark, blushing when she realized that her voice had been getting higher and higher as she had been speaking.
The man shrugged, looking as unhappy as she felt.
"From Ryan’s end, he seems to believe that this is somehow for the best. That Vivian deserves better than him,"
Gripping her coffee mug tight, Amy contemplated just unhinging her jaw and pouring all of the hot liquid down her throat.
Instead, she settled for asking Mark a question.
"So I take it, it is safe to assume that Ryan did not take Gwendolyn back,"
Looking like he would rather talk about anything but that woman, Mark shook his head.
"No, absolutely not. He would never go back to that witch,"
"Vivian seems to think that he is going out with her again. She saw pictures of Gwendolyn going to the hospital after Ryan’s grandfather was admitted,"
Mark slapped the palm of his hand against his forehead, then he ran his fingers over his face.
"I happened to be there that day. Trust me, there was no getting back together happening.
Ryan told that woman to leave and never come back. He hates her guts,"
Her frustrations building, Amy swallowed down more coffee.
"These two are really alike. On my end, Vivian is hanging out with her awful ex because she thinks she deserves to be punished for ending things with Ryan," Mark raised a brow at that, but nodded in understanding.
"Ryan also thinks he is protecting his grandfather by making the old man believe there’s still something between him and Gwendolyn Stuart the fourth,"
Staring down at her coffee, Amy thought on how needlessly complicated the whole thing was. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Vivian wanted Ryan, Ryan wanted Vivian, Gwendolyn Stuart the fourth wanted Ryan, Ryan hated Gwendolyn Stuart the fourth. Bryce wanted Vivian, Vivian hated Bryce but thought she deserved him...
Why couldn’t the main two just cut off all of the unnecessary stuff and be together?!
What were Ryan and Vivian not seeing in all of this?
"Do you think if you told Vivian that Ryan was not really dating Gwendolyn, she would actually reach out to him?"
Amy considered that for a bit then she shook her head.
"Knowing Vivian, she will probably say that Ryan is moving on to bigger, better things that he will not be looking back at someone like her,"
His lips pressed together, Mark made a sound like a kettle losing steam.
"This whole thing is so easy,"
"Why are they over complicating it," He groaned, reaching out, Amy patted his hand lightly before returning it to where it had been previously cradling her coffee.
"Honestly, I think that they are scared. Neither of them is willing to risk putting themselves out there because they are worried that the outcome will crush them,"
Mark sighed, his back straightening.
"But that is the thing, it won’t. This time things will work out for the better but they do not believe that and what they believe is what matters most here,"

"We need to find a way to show them that they are making a mistake," Amy muttered.
Tapping lightly at his teacup, Mark hummed in agreement. "Maybe if we get the two of them to meet up and actually talk face to face. If we make them look at each other I believe that they will not be able to hold on to these hurtful little lies that they are telling themselves," Amy nodded, she was fully in agreement with Mark, but even then, she had her doubts.
"Do you think that will work? That getting them together will make them realize what they are missing?" Amy asked him, trying to inject a bit of hope into her tone, but she could not quite manage it.
Mark’s shoulders slumped, and he looked at his tea dejectedly. "I highly doubt it. Knowing them, they’ll react badly to being tricked into a meet-up and say awful things they do not mean," Mark was absolutely right, and that really depressed Amy. Just what would they have to do to make their friends see reason?
