Chapter 98: Doran Was A Happy Child

It was two weeks later after the incident when Skyla insisted on going back to her home but she had decided she would be moving out of his room.

"You can live with me, Skyla. You don’t have to return to him, you know that." Huria was extremely furious at the decision, she didn’t want her to go.

"I have to Huria, at least for now. Thank you for taking care of me, I can’t imagine what I would do without you," Skyla embraced her friend and bid her goodbye. Amsilia was here to take her back.

"Call me, if there is anything just call me," Huria instructed before letting her go. But her heart dreaded this decision.

"I will," she answered with a small smile before getting into the car and they drove off.

She had already informed Madame Maven to arrange a separate bedroom for her so when they arrived her luggage was placed there.

"My child, I am so glad you have recovered and returned to us. I was so worried," Madame Maven’s ashen face came into view as she hugged Skyla.

"I am a tough girl, madame." She softly smiled at the older woman to ease her fears.

Both of them took her to her new room and she settled down on the bed. Finally, she wouldn’t have to sleep on that fucking divan anymore.

"I will bring you some mint tea, it will refresh you." Madame Maven left for the kitchen and Amsilia sat beside her.

"Skyla, can you tell me something truthfully?" she quietly asked, placing an arm around her shoulders.

"OK!" Skyla was weary but she wanted to see where it was going.

"Did Doran do this?" Her question panged at her heart in the worst possible ways. After the mother-son confrontation over the belting incident, Doran had been less abusive but now he was finding other ways so his mom won’t know.

She only nodded her head while biting her lower lip. Trying to stay strong although inside she was crumbling.

A gasp escaped Amsilia and she clutched her head. History kept repeating itself and she was ashamed, embarrassed, and remorseful that she couldn’t raise a son who wouldn’t repeat what his father did.

"Skyla I can never side with his actions, if it was possible for me I would have broken his hands. But I want to tell you something today."

Skyla attentively listened, blinking in understanding. She took Skyla’s hands in hers.

"His father used to hit me too. I belonged to a very noble family and I wasn’t used to such treatment so I always fought back. This would spur him more, my resilience and it never ceased. I already had Doran by that time and I didn’t want to give him a broken home. So I stayed and I bore but such incidents leave marks on the child. He absorbs everything from his parents and his environment."

Amsilia sighed, there was this gloomy look in her eyes as Skyla rapidly breathed in and placed her hand on her mouth. She said, "I am so very sorry, I didn’t know."

"It’s not your fault dear." She gave Skyla a broken smile and continued.

Doran was seven when his father brought another woman home and made her his mistress. She charmed Doran as well, I don’t know how but he followed her like a lost puppy. That was the time I decided to leave but Doran’s father Chester didn’t let me take Doran along. He threatened my family and told me he would kill them one by one if I dared take his son. With an aching heart and a bundle of regrets, I had to leave Doran behind in their hands."

A few of her anguished tears escaped her eyes and she sniffled.

"Doran was a happy child filled with warmth and laughter. He used to tell me jokes, listen to hundreds of stories, and play with animals. He was kind and would never hurt even an ant. But when I returned 14 years later because that mistress was gone and Chester’s health had fallen. Doran was not the same Doran I had left behind. He was cold and something inside of him seemed to have been broken. I don’t know what they did to my child."

Skyla was horrified to hear of this and she squeezed Amsilia’s hands in reassurance as she continued narrating the story.

"I was so desperate for his love, to make up for the lost time that I turned a blind eye to his evil ways, to what he had become. I didn’t have a clue that he could fall to this level and now I don’t even know how to fix him. He hates me, he hates the world, and there is this volcano of rage inside of him. I thought maybe having a wife would help him, that love would change him but I don’t think that’s possible. You have to leave him, Skyla. I know why you are still holding onto him but he is a man who has lost his humanity and I will be damned if he continues this path of hurting you."

She leaned closer and kissed Skyla’s head, telling her she was on her side and this battle would not be hers alone. Skyla was speechless, she didn’t know what to say.

"Just give me some time and stay strong. I will get you the necessary papers from your father’s company. And then I want you to divorce him and never look back."

Skyla was surprised at her mother-in-law’s words and asked in exasperation.

"You would do that for me?" freewebnσvel.cѳm

"Yes, you have suffered enough and you have fulfilled more than your fill of the promise you made to your father. He would want you to be happy and not live like this and I am going to help you escape this hell and find a safe haven."

Both women embraced after that and began to cry in each other’s arms. Sniffling and hiccuping.

Madame Maven arrived with the cup of tea and was a bit astonished to see them like this.

"Can I join this crying session as well?" she playfully asked, trying to lighten the tense mood and both women separated and cracked smiles at her. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"There will be no more crying from now on. Only happy days will follow," Amsilia declared with a smile and took the tea from Madame Maven to hand it over to her daughter-in-law.
