Chapter 294: Return To Kincaid International
Zyair’s home was cleared by the police and they allowed him to return there with an entourage of police officers and Kail. They were not taking any risks after knowing that a mafia gang leader was involved in the attack. Zyair could be their next target.
He went home, the place which was meant to be their safe haven but had been tainted in blood. Four innocent lives were lost there. Although every trace of blood had been washed away, all Zyair could see was blood.
Opening the door he solemnly entered the living place where Madame Maven was shot and Skyla was taken from.
It was so empty without their presence. No one came running to him with arms spread to hug and kiss him. His Skyla was not there.
It was only the eerie quietness that welcomed him. No Madame Maven’s cheerful face, asking him about his day and offering refreshing drinks. She was gone, buried under the unrelenting soil which spared no one.
With heavy steps and grieving eyes, he made his way towards their bedroom. Skyla and Zyair’s phones were in police custody, they were trying to scan them for any threatening messages they might have received. Any lingering data that would lead them to the culprits.
Zyair slowly opened the door, it softly opened without making a noise. He had it oiled in a way so it wouldn’t creak and disturb her sleep when he used to come home late.
But the room’s barrenness welcomed him. Her Cuddles lay lonely on the bed, her precious pin on the dressing table. Only her memories and reminiscent of her laughter remained.
A haunting void of emptiness had birthed inside him, haunting him, consuming him. He approached their bed and lowered himself on the corner, where Skyla used to sleep.
His hand slowly rubbed the soft bedsheet, any means to feel closer to the woman who was his whole world.
"Sky..." His voice broke as an immeasurable amount of hurt crawled up in his voice.
He sat there unmoving for a while before picking up Cuddles and taking a deep inhale. Her essence was soaked in that teddy bear she so loved to hug.
Taking it along, Zyair made his way to the nursery they had set up for their child. Everything was in order as they had left it last time. Fairy lights softly glowed as Zyair turned them on. The rocking chair he had bought for her lay in the corner, empty with just her cushion. He softly placed Cuddles on it.
"I will bring both of you back, I promise." The words of his determination resonated and embedded in every corner of this room as he slowly retreated and closed the door.
The plan he had concocted with police needed to be put in place and unwillingly he had to return to work for that.
Taking a shower and dressing up in his slate grey pent coat with a white shirt, Zyair left his room. His heavily shadowed eyes lingered for a moment before he closed the door behind him.
Kail took him to his office. As usual, fanatic fans and crazy journalists had surrounded the building, even the barricade to his underground parking lot. They were trying to infiltrate the building by any means.
With difficulty, they squeezed Zyair in through the main building.
"Post extra security, in case they try to invade the company. Remain vigilant." Zyair instructed Kail and he swiftly nodded. He knew what he needed to do.
Employees stopped in their tracks, seeing their boss use the main entrance today instead of his private one. He avoided people and was hardly seen using this entrance.
They solemnly greeted him, some even offered comforting words, understanding how hard a time it was for their boss. Skyla was a loved figure in the company, her cheerful demeanour and friendly nature had won the hearts of everyone. They had been left devastated by her disappearance, especially when she was pregnant.
Knowing their love story and what they had been through, everyone adored their two bosses.
Zyair acknowledged everyone. He knew he had been seen coming to the office and it was a matter of time now before his vulnerability would be taken advantage of.
He settled in his office but his mind was far from being focused on work. His thoughts were on his wife and child. Lawrence checked up on him every hour but he couldn’t get much response. Zyair was too lost and only grunted with single words.
"I am so worried about them. I can’t believe this is happening," Lawrence lamented to Mawar, who was rubbing his arm in consolation. The news had hit all of them hard and no one had been able to find a shard of peace since then.
"Me too. I keep praying Skyla and the baby are safe. How could someone be so cruel?" She added while holding back her tears. It seemed like yesterday when they were so happy, celebrating the wedding and all.
They were interrupted when the call came through from the receptionist that Mr Mithias Kincaid wished to meet Zyair.
"What does he want?" Lawrence muttered to himself. But had been instructed earlier by Zyair that if he or anyone from his company requested a meeting with Zyair, they should be sent to his office.
"Send him over," Lawrence instructed while getting up to go inform his boss.
Zyair was lost staring out of the window at nothing in particular when Lawrence entered and said with annoyance. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Mithias is here."
"I know, it didn’t take him too long. The word spreads fast these days," Zyair answered with a sneer, his eyes had that forlorn look as his mind contemplated different scenarios.
"You want me to stay?" Lawrence asked, watching Zyair keenly.
"No, I will deal with him alone. Make sure no one disturbs us." Lawrence nodded at his answer and left.
Zyair turned his chair and sat straight, oozing confidence. The serious expression he wore and the way his hands had steepled in front showed he meant business with this man.
Soon enough the door to his office knocked and he granted permission to enter.
Mithias Kincaid stepped inside in his expensive leather oxfords and a charcoal three-piece suit that hugged his well-defined body. The man had not a single hair out of place and there was this haughty smile on his lips.
To Zyair’s surprise, a woman accompanied him. Seeing her made his blood freeze over in his veins. A new hell was about to break loose today.
