Chapter 218: Will She Leave Him?

After a forced dinner by Meena, where Skyla only could take a few bites she went to bed in his room. The sleep evaded her and relentless thoughts disturbed her wounded heart.

She finally drifted off with a disturbed mind but was woken up in the middle of the night by warm hands on her waist pulling her to him. Her eyes instantly opened seeking him. His forehead pressed against her chest in an attempt to find some peace.

"Zyair!" She softly called him out, her hands instantly cradling his head pushing him in further, "You OK?"

He dragged in a pained breath.

"No." He only said a single word.

Although he wanted to tell her what he had told the Police. It was most likely Doran because it was no coincidence that their home was invaded right after a week he was released. He had the most to gain from exposing Zyair’s identity as he had pushed Skyla countless times to gather any personal data on him.

He didn’t say anything to Skyla not wishing for her to get more anxious as she was already drowning in guilt for something which wasn’t even her fault. She deserved someone normal with whom she could experience simple things of life. Someone who didn’t have to hide behind a mask.

"Talk to me, Zyair." Her slim fingers wove through his soft hair, and the desperation in her voice tightened his chest.

"Just stay with me, Sky. I need you." Pangs of despair clung to him and his voice made her heart ache in the worst possible ways.

"I am always with you." Skyla didn’t push him, she let him hug her as if his life depended on it. She only placed tender kisses on his head and face, letting him rest and find peace.

He would talk when he wished to but her heart didn’t find a shard of peace that night. Dread swept through her veins but she didn’t shed a tear, she just held onto him.

Zyair fell asleep safely perched in her arms and all she could do was stare at him.

It was early morning when her phone pinged telling her she had a text message. She quietly grabbed her phone without disturbing his sleep. But the sound of her phone had woken Zyair up, unlike Skyla he was an extremely light sleeper.

She opened the message, it was on her social media. It was sent through an app which erased the message within five minutes of it being read but she was unaware of it. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

As she read her body uncontrollably shuddered as fear ran amok down to her bones. Cold sweat broke out on her forehead making her body go rigid and freeze over.

Zyair could sense the changes in her body and he let her go and straightened up, watching her with calculated eyes.

Seeing him awake, Skyla quickly tried to hide away her phone and rigidly smiled at him.

"Who is it?" He quietly asked, keeping his eyes focused on her and watching her reaction to his question.

"It’s just Huria," she blurted out without thinking. She was a terrible liar and Zyair could see right through her. He breathed in, trying to relax his nerves.

"Sky, can you tell me the truth? I would appreciate it. I know you want to protect me but hiding the truth will only hurt me. So I will ask again, who texted you? And I would like an honest answer."

He was extremely serious with no traces of humour on his face. Skyla stayed quiet and only watched him with pained eyes, clutching her phone to her chest. She wished him no heartbreak and this text contained only that.

Seeing her not attempt to speak or show him the text he spoke again.

"Can you share that text with me?" His hand extended and the tips of his fingers brushed against the back of her hand as he added.

"Please!"

Skyla was stuck now in an impossible choice. Either of her decisions was going to hurt him but her hiding the truth was probably going to hurt him more and the trust between them will shake. That was something she didn’t wish for in a million years.

With trembling hands, she extended the phone to him, as her teeth sharply bit her lower lip. Zyair quietly took it from her and his anguished eyes wavered to the text as he began to read and his face reddened with extreme anger.

[Skyla, return to me or I will expose his identity along with all the dirty secrets I have uncovered about him. I am sure the media will have an early Christmas the day they will learn the truth behind their beloved Zyair Kincaid.]

Before he could take a screenshot the message disappeared right before his eyes as if it had never been sent.

Zyair was livid and his body was embroiled in extreme outrage. His nostrils flared as his stormy bluish orbs flickered to her and she curled away from him in fright.

With Doran it always meant blows but Zyair had never looked at her the way he was doing now. Unaware he wasn’t angry at her but the sender.

Seeing her shrinking away into herself from fear, Zyair quickly relaxed his expression, the last thing he wanted was to scare her or have her fear him.

"Sky! I am not angry at you. Relax," he spoke as softly as was possible for him and her downturned lips and crinkles on her forehead relaxed slightly.

"I—I am sorry, Zyair. I can return, I don’t want you to suffer because of me." Her words came out shaky, the tears danced in her eyes but she didn’t shed them. Her insides seemed to be being clawed slowly at the prospect of leaving Zyair or being the reason his life was about to be toppled.

He grabbed her so quickly and stuck her to his rapidly beating heart in the blink of an eye that her breath was knocked out.

"You promised to spend the rest of your life with me and now you are talking about leaving. How will I live without you?" He asked in a broken voice, his heart had shattered to innumerable pieces.

Hurt seared his insides, burning him to a crisp. His broken words seeped into Skyla’s heart and ripped it apart as well. Even the bare thought of Doran touching her propelled these disgusting feelings inside of her which made her skin crawl in the worst ways.

"I don’t wish to leave you, Zyair. But, do I have a choice?"

"Yes, you do. I won’t let you go back to him. You are mine now and whatever he wants to do he can. My truth was to come to the surface, one way or the other. As long as you are by my side, I can face it but if you choose to leave I won’t survive this." His head dipped and his forehead rested on her rapidly beating heart in a desperate plea to not leave him.

The pain. The hurt. The ache.

Everything had magnified inside of him.

How could she leave this broken man? The way he had rescued her from a miserable life and gave her a new purpose to live. It was time for her to become his anchor, his guardian angel.

He was right, they should face it together. She would stand by his side and fight.

She gripped his face in her hands and angeled it up so their desperate eyes could meet.

"I am not leaving but I also won’t let him or anyone else hurt you. You made me your guardian angel, it’s time I take that role seriously."
