Chapter 215: Heaviness Of Her Heart
(Fanart of Zyair and Skyla in comment section, dressed up for a bike ride. Leave a comment if you like it. Shout out to my fellow author @Queenfrieza for making it.)
It had been a week since Doran had been released from jail and Zyair had received that sinister call from a very panicked Amsilia. She didn’t want to frighten Skyla so she narrated everything to Zyair, telling him to take extra care of her.
It had put Zyair slightly on the edge as he tightened the security around his apartment and always accompanied Skyla wherever she wished to go.
Even without the knowledge of what Amsilia had told Zyair, Skyla had been anxious since his release. He observed her occasionally watching over her shoulder or scanning the crowd for a familiar face. She hadn’t said much to him but he understood her like the back of his hand now.
Zyair was trying to be understanding with her as they planned their wedding. He would take her out shopping, or to private restaurants and morning walks so she would remain relaxed but that smile he so loved was mostly forced now.
She was living in fear and was trying her utmost to not show him. Not wishing for him to think she was weak or was still living under the thumb of her ex-husband when she was about to turn a new leaf in her book of life.
Zyair called her to his office in the evening. She entered and quickly put a smile on her face which didn’t reach her anxious eyes.
"Sky, come here," he ushered her forward with tenderness dripping from his voice. She came to him with sluggish steps and he caught her by the waist and made her sit on his thick thighs.
She leaned on his chest and closed her eyes. freewebnσvel.cøm
"Talk to me, beautiful. Whatever it is, just talk to me. We can’t fix it if you won’t share." His long fingers began to massage her scalp.
"Zyair, I don’t want to burden you with my fears. I have too many, especially related to someone who should be insignificant in my life now." The heaviness of her voice settled in his heart, making it ache so uncontrollably. His fingers shifted under his chin and elevated it slightly so that their gazes could meet and he softly but firmly asked.
"Didn’t I tell you many times to hand over your fears to me? I know what’s bothering you but I would like to hear from you."
"My heart, it’s heavy, it’s drowning. I think something bad is going to happen, Zyair." Her chest fell as she exhaled, now that she had voiced what had been bothering her.
"It’s normal to feel that way because of what you have been through. Every day my own heart drowns in very similar thoughts because of my past but we have to keep living for each other while we fight our battles. Talk to me whenever you feel that way, I won’t ever judge. You know that right?"
"I know but I hate the amount of hold he still has on me. I don’t want to think about him and yet I do. I feel ashamed and guilty. I don’t belong to him but you." Tears openly swam in her eyes and his heart clenched seeing her so vulnerable yet again.
"Nine years is a very long time, Sky. The fears he has rooted in you won’t leave overnight but don’t suffocate on them alone. Let me share the burden and it’s alright to talk about him, he is not a taboo." His large hands had enveloped her face by then and her tears were soaking them as they flowed in abundance.
Zyair slowly wiped them as he continued in his calm but firm voice.
"Yes, you are only mine now and I protect what’s mine at every cost." Making some of the fears in her heart to mollify. He wiped the rest of her tears and said lastly.
"And these tears are so precious, don’t waste them on someone who is not even worthy of them."
"I won’t." Skyla ceased her crying and blinked at him.
"Good girl. Come I will take you out to get your favourite ice cream. We will use the bike." The thought of going on a ride on his heavy bike lifted her mood immensely and she forgot all her tears. A real smile sprung up on her lips and she enthusiastically answered.
"I will change." She kept extra clothes in her office, whenever they were in the mood to head out directly from the office she would use them.
Zyair gently kissed her head and let her go, her mood seemed to have been alleviated and that’s all that mattered to him.
He left his seat as well and headed to his king-size bathroom to change into a black leather attire which suited better for his bike.
Skyla soon joined him and he watched her in awe as she had on black leather pants and a black jacket which she had zipped up to her neck. Her hair had been neatly tied in a ponytail and the pin proudly shimmered in them.
"My beautiful fiancée," he mused in a rapt whisper as he placed the helmet on her head, hiding away her sweet face. He helped her up the bike.
He wore his helmet, adorned his hands with leather gloves and stretched his fingers so they would fit before he mounted the bike as well. Zyair no longer had to tell her to hold onto him.
Her arms instantly went around his waist and her soft body pressed against his hard back.
Zyair started the bike and off they went, zooming out. freewёbnoνel.com
He took her to her favourite ice cream parlour and ordered the biggest serving of the coffee ice cream. Skyla showed him the wardrobe designs for the Anime characters she had been working on.
"You are doing a fantastic job, our sales for Anime costumes have increased by 20 per cent from the time you have taken over." There was pride in his voice as he praised her, turning her cheeks cherry red. Didn’t seem like she would ever get used to him complimenting her.
Her ice cream arrived with an ample amount of chocolate syrup and she began to relish it. He amusedly watched her stuff her small mouth with large spoonfuls. Coffee ice cream was the only food he saw her eat with such zeal and big portions, otherwise, she ate like a sparrow.
"It’s so good, next time we will take it home and enjoy it together."
Sometimes it killed her inside that they couldn’t eat like a proper couple outside their home. She could only curse the people who had destroyed this part of him and often wondered how he must feel about it. He never said a word though on this topic.
"Of course, I would love to eat it off your cherry tops," he leaned forward and his lusty breath fanned her ear, making her tightly press her lips together and let the heat rise in her ears.
"We should go," she declared instead, standing up, avoiding his amused gaze.
Soon they were on their way back. As they neared their home, Zyair slowed down. He couldn’t see or sense his guards. Panic gripped him as a police car could be seen parked outside their apartment and a few policemen had gathered there and then he saw someone lying on the ground.
