Chapter 211: Red Bowtie

Zyair watched his girl with a mixture of amusement and awe. She never failed to surprise him. He didn’t care if the world was watching at that instant all he wanted was to stare deeply into her love-filled eyes.

The world and its people had melted away and he couldn’t help the knots that got tied up in his stomach. They would only unknot when he would do what had sprung into his mind. Although it was very much possible that he would be left with even more knots and dejection, he didn’t care.

"Couldn’t let anyone else have my boyfriend’s mask," she told him with a chuckle falling through her ruby-painted lips. The smile on her face was more precious than any wealth he possessed.

"My girl!" He possessively whispered, his desperate eyes roamed on her flirtatiously smiling face. A deep blush had appeared there because of how he openly gaped at her.

"Ahm!" Someone cleared their throat, breaking that perfect moment of love between them.

It was Cedric and Lilsia. They shook hands and introductions were made.

"That was some bidding, you turned quite the heads," Lilsia tittered to Skyla, casting a glance sideways at the snickering ladies in the distance.

"They were bidding on my man’s mask, had to intervene," Skyla said without any hesitation. He had owned her earlier, it was her turn.

"Come I will make some introductions. They are dying to meet the girl who has bought the mask of Zyair Kincaid." Lilsia invited her, making her turn to face Zyair with questioning eyes.

This was a habit she had acquired with Doran, she always needed his validation before doing anything in public or she would end up bruised. She was still unable to shake it off.

"Go ahead, I am right here." Zyair calmly told her, giving her courage to do this. She liked mingling with people but positive people.

He also knew she was good at socialising and as much as he wanted to protect her he had no plans of curbing her spirits. She needed to make more friends so people could see the goodness she held.

Skyla was no longer Doran’s wife, she was his girlfriend and people should know her as such.

Lilsia accompanied her towards a group of women, donning fashionable branded attires, high heels and wearing expensive make-up. They were slowly sipping champagne and gossiping. Prominent among them was the tall model who lost the bidding against Skyla. She was stylishly twirling a blonde lock on her index finger as her jade-shaded eyes focused on Skyla. Her protruding nose snickered slightly upwards as if she was sniffing garbage, her smooth forehead formed annoyed ridges.

"Ladies! Please, meet Skyla. She is here with Mr Zyair," Lilsia made the introduction and everyone shook hands with her. Some smiled politely others with coy smiles while the blonde woman with a derisive smirk as if she thought for Skyla to be beneath her.

"Quite a bid you made, Miss Skyla. Didn’t know a secretary would be rich enough to pull that off until she is ..." Her sharp eyes were calculating and something sinister dwelled in them as she left her sentence hanging.

Skyla returned her mocking smile as she politely addressed her but her words were far from being polite.

"Can’t let just anyone have my boyfriend’s mask now."

The eyebrows of everyone in the circle arched at Skyla’s words and their mouths widened like an unexpected plot twist. No one was expecting her to openly say something like that, especially not about Zyair. It was like opening a whole Pandora’s box.

"Wasn’t the money enough which you scraped from Doran, you have to go for Zyair, knowing too well he has a condition. That’s shameful." Kelly; the blonde girl, taunted, unable to comprehend how Zyair could want someone divorced and money-hungry.

Skyla was expecting something like that from her but it still pinched her heart in the worst kind of way. Her smile faltered slightly but she kept her unwavering gaze at Kelly. People like her would always believe it was for money.

"That’s enough Kelly, Doran is an abuser and he is rightly rotting in jail. Don’t exaggerate things," Lilsia sternly chided her. Kelly only shrugged her shoulders and drummed her perfectly manicured nails along the champagne flute before walking away. Her perfectly curled hair bounced on her shoulders. Some ladies followed her while others stayed.

Lilsia turned to face Skyla with an apologetic look in her eyes.

"I am sorry you had to hear that."

"It’s all right, I am used to people uttering this nonsense. Clearly, people don’t understand abusers. Thank you for having us but I would like to return to Zyair." Skyla respectfully smiled and began to walk back to her man. He was talking to Cedric but his eyes wavered to her.

Her shoulders were slumped and even though she wore a smile, he knew it was forced and something had happened. Her eyes always spoke volumes to him when she didn’t.

Nearing him she went to stand by his side and slowly said to him without making eye contact.

"I want to go home."

Zyair didn’t inquire about anything, he knew it wasn’t the appropriate time.

"Let’s!"

They bid goodbyes to their hosts and thanked them for the evening. Skyla informed them that she would transfer the money soon and the mask would be handed over to her soon after.

Kail was outside with their car and amidst tight security they mounted their car and headed back. Skyla was quiet and stared out the window. Zyair quietly sandwiched her hand in his large ones and placed it on his thigh.

He said nothing just gave her his assurance but his heart was extremely restless knowing someone must have said something. Skyla shifted and just leaned onto his shoulder closing her eyes in the process and he let her rest.

They arrived back home soon and entered their Paradise. Skyla as usual just took off her shoes quietly and left them near the door in a haphazard way and wandered further in.

Zyair picked them up and placed them in the shoe rack before doing the same with his and following her while removing his mask and hanging it.

She had slumped herself on the living room sofa with her eyes closed and legs spread out.

Zyair removed his coat and draped it at the back of a chair, he then loosened his bowtie with one hand and opened the top button of his shirt before lowering himself on the floor near her legs. He then placed his chin on her knee and wrapped her waist in his robust arms.

"Talk to me, Sky. What happened?" His concerned whisper had her opening her eyes and staring down at him. She was hurt, he could tell. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Skyla hardly ever told him whenever people called her names behind his back or labelled her as a gold digger but today she wanted to. She wished to share. Sighing heavily she spoke.

"People think I am with you for the money. I know I said I won’t care and I try as well but it hurts, Zy."

Zyair pressed a small kiss on her knee, hearing her answer. There was an understanding on his handsome face before he questioned her.

"You know why they try to do that and hurt you?" freewebnøvel.com

Skyla shook her head with a small pout.

"Because they are fucking jealous of my girl. They were jealous that you defeated them all at the bidding and they are jealous because you are mine. So why not make them a little more jealous? What do you think?"

The slow mischief that was inking his eyes told her he had something going on in that brilliant mind of his. Something she couldn’t comprehend mostly for he loved surprising her.

"How?" She arched her brows.

He only smiled at her question and extracted his hands from her waist. He was still holding the red bowtie he had been wearing today. It was in the ribbon form now.

"Give me your left hand," he casually asked, masking his emotions. Skyla was slightly confused but she obeyed.

Taking her soft hand in his, he slowly began to one by one bend all her fingers except her ring finger. It was empty now, that ugly scar still rested on its base.

Zyair took the red ribbon and he wound it around her finger, precisely covering that burnt mark as if making a ring and tied it in a form of a small bowtie. His eyebrows had bunched together in concentration but his lips remained flat not revealing much.

Skyla watched him with her mouth slightly open but didn’t interrupt, her heart was going berserk though. Once he was done he brought her hand closer to his lips and kissed the back of it before murmuring in that extremely seductive voice of his.

"Sorry, I didn’t have a ring because it was a spur-of-the-moment idea but, become my wife so that we can make them properly jealous."
