Chapter 194: Visiting Meena In Hospital

They returned to the hotel after their adventure at the beach.

Zyair received a call from Lawrence.

"Hey! Your mom didn’t want me to tell you but she is down with a fever and I had to bring her to the hospital. The fever was so high so try to return as early as possible."

"What? For how long? Why didn’t you inform me earlier," Zyair was flabbergasted, he couldn’t believe his mom didn’t tell him. He was severely disturbed by the news.

"She didn’t want you to worry but I thought you should be here. She shouldn’t be alone at this time," Lawrence informed him.

"I am on my way." Zyair ended the call and went to discuss it with others and everyone agreed with his decision. They decided to head back right away. freewebnovel.cσ๓

Skyla followed him to his room, worriedly. Once they were inside the room Zyair took out his suitcase and placed it on his bed.

"I am sorry, I wanted to spend the night with you but mom needs me," he told Skyla while taking out his clothes from the wardrobe and trying to put them in his suitcase with shaky hands. She could see the tension and turmoil he was going through.

Moving closer to him, she took the clothes from his hands and softly said.

"Sit, let me do it." He obeyed with robotic movements.

She began folding his clothes and placing them in his suitcase as neatly as was possible for her.

"There is nothing to apologise about. I am worried about her as well. We will be together some other time." Her words lifted this unseen burden from his shoulders.

"Thank you for understanding. This is why I love you." He leaned forward and wrapped his warm fingers around her wrist, pulling her in his lap. He placed a fervent kiss on her forehead but she could sense his worries.

"There is nothing to thank me about, Zy. We will do everything together. Be happy together in high times and be there for each other in low times as well." She placed her hands on his face and stroked his cheeks with the pads of her thumbs. Trying to ease his fears and heart. His eyes warmed instantly and a small smile spread on his lips.

"I can’t love you enough..." they stayed in that position for a few minutes more. Once Zyair’s agitation had subsided a notch both of them finished packing and headed out. Throwing one last glance to the stunning room.

Rais and Huria had also packed and were waiting for them. Taking their car they headed to the airport.

Back in the jet, Skyla sat adjacent to Zyair. He was still tense; she could sense it from his body, and his eyes reflected the worries he held.

Skyla touched his arm gently.

"It’s going to be alright. Your mom is a tough lady."

He nodded at her and placed his hand on hers so it would remain there, calming him.

"Skyla is right," Huria added and they kept small conversation going to keep him distracted.

They arrived and landed in Angel City. Bidding them goodbye, Rais took Huria home. Skyla decided to go with Zyair to the hospital. Kail was there to pick them up.

"Head over to Clington Hospital," Zyair said from the backseat where he sat with Skyla. Kail nodded and the car sped away.

Zyair called Lawrence from the car and he informed him about the room number. Arriving at the hospital, Zyair decided to head over to the room first.

"Wait for fifteen minutes. I will send Lawrence over and you can accompany him," Zyair asked, turning to face her.

"Alright, will do."

Zyair opened the door and left the car. He walked with wide steps to cover the maximum distance in less time.

Entering the hospital, he hurried along the corridor and entered the room where his mother was.

Lawrence was standing by her side, he turned and Zyair walked up to him. Both of them hugged.

"How is she?" Zyair asked as they separated and his worried eyes found his mother.

"Her fever was really high but now she is resting. They will keep her overnight though just to be sure," Lawrence informed him.

"Thank you for bringing her. Skyla is here too, can you go to her and bring her after a few minutes." Zyair requested. Lawrence nodded at his request and exited the room.

Zyair stepped closer to his sleeping mother and lovingly placed his hand on her forehead. The temperature seemed to be down but her skin still felt hot.

His worries intensified and so did the guilt. She didn’t even inform him she was sick because he was away. His nose ached from the intense build of emotional turmoil.

"Mom!" He slowly called her out. Her eyes opened slowly as she took her son in and a satisfied smile spread on her kind face.

"You are here," she feebly replied and lifted her hand not sure if he would let her touch him.

But he took her hand in both of his and sat by her side.

"Why didn’t you tell me you were ill?" He asked in a slightly hurt tone, his forehead creased in worry.

"Come now, Zyair. This little fever can do nothing to Meena Kincaid." She brushed away his fears with a wave of her free hand as if it was nothing.

"Mom, I am serious. You should have called me," he closed his eyes and shook his head.

The thought that she didn’t want to disturb him because he was taking a new turn in his life gnawed at him. His father had asked him as his dying wish to take care of Meena and he wanted to regard it.

"Zyair, I don’t want to disturb you with every sneeze that leaves my mouth. You have your own life now. You finally found someone and I want you to be happy. Quit worrying about this old woman too much."

She affectionately smiled at her son, letting him know she meant every word and didn’t want him to worry too much. But her words made his heart more restless.

He faced her with more creases crowding his forehead and his eyes swimming with pain and unhappiness.

"Mom! That doesn’t mean that I should stop caring about you, spending time with you or be there with you when you need me. You think so lowly of your son?" frёewebηovel.cѳm

His voice was laced with so much hurt that Meena’s heart was saddened too.

"I can never think lowly of you, my son. I just don’t want you to feel obligated about every small detail of my life. You have to focus on Skyla. She should be your top priority."

"I can focus on yours, hers and mine simultaneously just fine. Don’t push me away and turn me into a stranger, please. Whenever you need me, in any capacity you do that, I want to be there. Promise me this is the last time you will hide your illness from me."

He quietly squeezed her hand, letting her know there was no way he would ever abandon her. Meena’s heart overloaded with love for her son. He indeed was God gifted to them. Nothing she would say was going to deter him from taking care of her. She still tried.

"Alright, but you won’t freak out everytime. Remember to keep Skyla as your priority now."

"Both of you are my priority, mom. Did you eat something?" He asked, glancing around to see if there was any food.

"I am not hungry and it’s the middle of the night. Will take some broth or soup in the morning."

The door knocked, Lawrence and Skyla walked in. Zyair stood up seeing them while Skyla proceeded to where Meena was. She slowly smiled at the older woman.

"Mrs. Kincaid, how are you feeling?" Skyla took the place Zyair had just left and held Meena’s hand.

"I am much better. I will be fit as a fiddle soon. Thank you for coming," Meena answered in gratitude, returning her smile.

"I am glad to hear that." Skyla stole a glance at Zyair. He still seemed slightly tense and she knew she would have to talk to him soon.

They kept Meena company till morning. Zyair excused Lawrence when Amsilia arrived with food and soup.

Skyla hugged her ex-mother in law and both of them held onto each other for a while. Amsilia then turned to her friend.

"You gave me a scare oldie. I brought your favourite soup. Come on, now. I want to see you on your feet again. Bed doesn’t suit you."

Amsilia teased her friend making everyone smile in the room. She fed her soup and both of them sat talking.

Zyair excused himself, he wanted to get himself coffee so he could relax a bit. Skyla stayed behind with the ladies but she knew she needed to talk to Zyair soon and see what was bugging him.
