Chapter 156: Zyair Slays Doran
Zyair’s raging eyes glowed with a blue fire as they remained fixated on Doran. He ambled forward on his long legs, his persona dark as he took the witness stand.
Skyla’s heart somersaulted in her chest, he was here. Even his presence was like a gust of warm wind on a freezing day, it blew and whirled around her, cushioning her and leaving her flushed.
Her eyes landed on his coat and her face heated up, he was wearing the lapel pin she had given him.
If the looks could kill, Doran would have been a pile of black ash by now. Zyair never thought he could hate a man more than Diego; the one who was first to rape him and destroy his innocence and yet Doran had surpassed him.
Zyair raised his hand to take the oath as he watched Skyla from his peripherals. He wanted to turn his eyes in her direction and soak in all her warm beauty but all eyes were on him.
After the oath, Zyair spoke in his deep rumbling voice.
"I apologise for being late, someone tried to shoot at my car and get me killed so I wouldn’t be able to reach the court and testify. I wonder who would benefit from such a stunt." The loathing in his voice and eyes intensified as he pinned Doran with it, knowing too well he was behind the attack.
Doran gulped, tearing his eyes away and looking anywhere but him.
Skyla sharply drew in a ragged breath, her worried eyes unconsciously wavered to Zyair, ensuring he wasn’t hurt. Her fear that he would get caught in the crossfire between her and Doran slowly began to shape up into reality.
Tears brimmed up in her eyes but she kept them at bay, she couldn’t cry in court, she had to stay strong.
Buzzing and murmuring started in the courtroom. Judge Malone had to bang her gavel to ensure silence.
"Are you alright? Mr Zyair. Do you need medical assistance? We can postpone the hearing for later," Judge Malone asked, turning to face the mysterious man in the mask.
"I am fine, luckily my chauffeur and I were able to escape unscathed but we have reported to the police and the culprit will be caught soon and brought to justice," he announced, his lips twitching under the mask to say so much more but he held back. He didn’t want to scare Skyla, from her reaction he knew she already was worried sick.
The session resumed and Sylvia asked her first question.
"Mr Zyair, can you tell us how you know Miss Skyla?"
"She is my secretary and handles our Anime department," he straightforwardly answered in his tranquil voice. His hands rested on his corded thighs. He exuded confidence, there was not a trace of fear, reluctance or regret in his voice.
"Mr Doran here accused you of having an affair with Miss Skyla. How do you answer those charges?"
He deliberately scoffed, making a noise with his nose while his hand went to his head as if finding this extremely stupid. His lawyer had done a stellar job teaching him the right actions.
"That’s absurd, I have gynophobia and don’t let women touch me. Everyone in Angel City knows that. I have hired bodyguards whose only job is to not let any woman near me. I hired Miss Skyla because she is married and such absurdities won’t arise, I guess I was wrong. People assume from others what they themselves do."
Zyair’s words were precisely chosen so as not to lie, he purposely said, ’Don’t let women touch me.’ He never said I don’t touch them. All in all, there was only one woman he wished to touch and own. While his last statement was directly thrown in Doran’s convulsing face, the anger and resentment were rising with each second inside of him.
"Did you know that Miss Skyla was being abused by her husband? When did you figure it out?" Sylvia questioned next, flipping over the pages as everyone else watched him with bated breath.
Skyla kept her eyes glued to her lap but her heart was fast hammering away, her hands clutched her dress, turning her knuckles white as tiny snowballs.
"It was a few days after she had started working for me. She came to the office with heavy make-up and I heard her crying when she thought no one was there. Some of the make-up peeled and I could glimpse the bruise underneath."
He answered with a set jaw, how he wanted to grab the man in front of him and plummet him with his punches. Instead, he continued.
"In October, he stormed her office, accused her of infidelity and then raised his hand on her. I heard it and when he exited her office, so I taught him a lesson for raising his hand on a lady and my employee. No one raises their hand on a female in my presence."
He boldly told the court and a hushed murmur of approval went around. His eyes finally flitted to where Skyla was perched and she raised her long lashes to have a glance at the man she admired so much.
Their eyes collided and their heartbeats synced. For a second the world froze and only they existed.
"What action are you taking against Mr Doran since he accused you of having an affair with his wife?" Sylvia’s question had him tearing his eyes away from her as he calmly answered.
"I have already filed a case against him and sued him for 100 million dollars for trying to damage my reputation and my company when his own is under us."
"Thank you, Mr Zyair for your time. I know you are a busy man but still, you made time by putting your life on the line to appear in court and assist," Sylvia graciously thanked him.
"I will do that for any of my employees. We take allegations very seriously and I will not sit in peace until I get to the bottom of this and ensure that Miss Skyla is safe. Hopefully, a verdict is reached soon so I can have my secretary back to her job," he answered in that finesse that was him.
"I would like to ask a few questions from Mr Zyair," Robsan spoke up, taking this opportunity to rub Amber in his face.
"Permission granted," Judge Malone nodded her head. Sylvia took her seat while Robsan trotted over.
Zyair pinned Robsan with his sharp gaze, undeterred and unmoving. If Robsan could see his face he would see the disgust highlighted on it.
"Mr Zyair, why did you fire and have Amber Agalia imprisoned? She was one of your employee." Robsan asked, trying to put authority into his squealing voice.
"I didn’t have her imprisoned, the court did. You should get your facts right. She tried to pin me with rape charges when I didn’t even touch her, trying to become my girlfriend she jumped to the top but fell face down," Zyair responded with ease.
"Didn’t she discover you and Miss Skyla having an affair?" Robsan asked with a slight edge to his voice. Doran watched in amusement, hoping for Zyair to falter. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"Well some women enjoy bringing others down, sadly Miss Amber was from that very category. If she had actually seen or heard something, which she didn’t. Where is the proof? Everyone has mobile phones in their hands nowadays and people like her would never let such an opportunity pass. She was lying just to blackmail me and get in my pants," he uttered the last few words with an apologetic look towards Judge Melone.
While the other ladies in the courthouse snickered. Who wouldn’t want that? He was all raw masculinity with hints of mysteriousness shrouding him. But no one had the right to violate him without his permission, too many people had already done that.
Robsan tried to speak again when Zyair cut him off.
"Why don’t you stop wasting everyone’s valuable time and let the court get the innocent lady her divorce? Your client has tons of evidence against him and no matter what you do he is going down. Wait till his trial against me starts. Ask all the questions then."
Zyair tilted his head and watched Doran squirm in anger, ready to burst. He had gotten under his skin again and soon he would win his company too with the case. No way was Doran capable of paying him 100 million $ in damages.
The crowd cackled, and Huria and Lawrence joined right in. Skyla had her eyes lowered but she also had a faint smile playing on her cherry lips. Even Sylvia had a proud knowing smile. Now that was the kind of man she approved of.
Before a skirmish broke out, Judge Malone called it a day and asked the officials to verify all the evidence submitted so the jury could reach their final verdict and announce who was guilty and who was not in a few days.
