Chapter 124: Can I Learn Karate?
In her embarrassment, Skyla missed the teasing tone.
"No, no, no." She covered her face with her hands, blushing down to her very roots. His cackle rang all around her.
"I will wait outside," she declared before quickly escaping his nearness which was proving dangerous to her fragile heart with every passing day.
She grabbed her bag and literally ran outside, shutting the door behind her. Clutching it Skyla leaned against the wall and took deep breaths.
’Phew! How can he say something like that so brazenly?’ She mumbled to herself when a small sound erupted from inside her.
’It’s not like you haven’t seen it already.’ The thought had her daydreaming about his body and then she remembered the scars littered on it.
Her mind wandered, what heinous fantasies people must have put him through. She hoped one day he would open up to her and tell her about them.
The door opened, interrupting her thoughts and Zyair appeared clad in a crimson turtleneck and black slacks. Every bulging muscle of his body could be felt and measured underneath that tight-fitting turtleneck.
She could watch this well-built handsome man all day long without even getting tired.
"Skyla! Come." His voice brought her back from her daydreaming.
Placing his hand on the small of her back and guided her forward until they rounded the corner and he distanced himself a bit.
Unbeknownst to them a shadow was lurking just outside their room, listening to some of their conversation. When Skyla had earlier emerged from the room, the shadow had moved towards the other corner of the corridor and left undetected.
The ride to the private club they were heading to was awkward. Zyair was driving the car himself and Skyla was in the passenger seat. She couldn’t help but sneak glances as he drove with his right hand while his left rested on his muscular thigh, drumming away. One-hand drives by men always looked so sexy and Skyla was smitten.
Zyair was deeply smirking under his mask with such thoughts.
’How long will you hide your feelings Skyla? I won’t stop wooing you until you give in.’
They arrived at the club and Zyair guided her inside to the private lounge they had previously booked for their after-party.
Everyone was waiting for them with drinks. Lawrence waved while Huria bounced up and down in excitement, seeing them.
"Here you are, come," she shouted over the noise of the music from the upper floor.
They made their way to them. Zyair remained constantly vigilant that no one would push Skyla. Reaching them Skyla settled down with Erdith, Mawar and Huria. While Zyair sat with Lawrence and some other guys from the anime department, opposite the ladies.
Girls seemed to have mingled well and were already joking with each other as they ordered more drinks.
"Took you guys long enough," Huria leaned closer and whispered in Skyla’s ear in an accusatory tone which Skyla knew well.
"Mr Zyair needed to change," Skyla whispered back.
"In front of you? Tell me you got to see his gorgeous body. I bet it’s all muscles," Huria snickered, she was already getting tipsy. If only she knew Skyla had already seen it once.
"Shut up, Huria. He is sitting right opposite us." Skyla scolded her friend for her sharp mouth which knew no bounds.
What was with both of them and changing clothes?
"Oops! Skyla is no fun, Mawar you are my best buddy from now." Huria draped her arm around Mawar and pulled her closer. Both the girls began to sing a song at the top of their lungs while slurping their drinks down. Skyla shook her head at her best friend.
Everyone else laughed at their actions.
"Big sista, I will join you." Lawrence joined the singing party.
Erdith struck up a conversation with Zyair. He was all praises for Erdith’s efforts and her helping hand in this.
Drinks arrived and Skyla accepted hers and began to slowly sip. Her eyes longingly wavering to the dance floor. She just wanted to let loose today but knew if anyone captured a picture she would be in deep trouble.
Zyair was observing her out of the corner of his eyes, her face was turned and only half of it was visible to him, illuminated by the purple-blue lights of the club. She was lost in her own world and he was lost in her.
"I need to use the restroom," Erdith announced and got up.
"I will come with you." Skyla didn’t get time to freshen up the whole day so they excused themselves.
"Be careful, should I accompany you?" Zyair inquired, unable to hold himself back. The memories of what almost happened to Skyla in that restaurant will never leave him.
"Skyla is safe with me. I am a certified black belt in karate." Erdith reassured Zyair, earning herself gasps from the others.
"Dope and dope." Lawrence did a salute to Erdith while the group murmured praises.
"You girl is one badass lady," Huria pointed to her with a wink. Erdith smiled and took a bow.
"That’s very reassuring, Miss Erdith," Zyair added with reverence and his eyes flickered to Skyla as if asking if she was comfortable.
She nodded with her signature sunshine smile which never failed to make his heart bubble with emotions.
"Alright, still be careful. I don’t trust these clubs," Zyair told them before the ladies left.
Erdith was smiling, she hadn’t missed how Zyair’s eyes remained focused on his secretary the entire time. She hadn’t also missed how Skyla was wearing the pin Zyair had bought from her.
But she didn’t want to think too much into it, knowing Skyla was married and Zyair didn’t seem the type of man who ran after girls. He was generous and cared deeply for his employees. That’s the conclusion Erdith drew.
"Miss Erdith, can I ask you a question?" Skyla hesitantly asked as they entered the restrooms.
"Of course, dear." Erdith waited at the door of the cubicle.
"Why did you learn karate?"
"Well, most of the anime girls I watched were so skilled in martial arts. I wanted to be strong like them and also whether we want to accept it or not. This is a man’s world and most of them are assholes. A woman has to make her place and should know how to defend herself against the bad ones. So I learnt and became self-sufficient. We will talk more once I come out." She reassuringly smiled at Skyla and entered the stall, closing the door behind her.
The girl with red hair was left wondering if she had also learnt them, she would know self-defence and Doran wouldn’t have dared to raise his hand at her.
Erdith came out and Skyla still seemed lost, contemplating deeply about something.
"What is it, Skyla?" Erdith asked, opening the faucet and washing her hands.
"Nothing, I was only thinking if I could learn them too or if it’s too late for me." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Skyla let out a frustrated sigh and Erdith faced her, turning off the faucet.
"You are still young and it’s never too late for anything. Go, enrol yourself with a good instructor and get started. It’s fun and it gives one so much self-confidence." Erdith explained while grabbing a tissue to dry her hands.
That was all the motivation Skyla needed.
"Alright, I will do it."
