Chapter 123: Teasing Her
"Looking for this?" A voice slick like velvety dark chocolate, equal amount sweet and dangerous. So alluring and tantalising, it prickled the very hair on the back of her neck, sending a shaky titillating shiver down her spine.
He was sprawled onto the sofa in the most inviting and yet lazy style. His slender but corded legs were stretched out in front of him as her bag rested on his lap. One of his arms lazily rested on the armrest while the other was on the back of the sofa.
And those sultry inviting eyes of his although hidden behind lenses were meticulously focused on her making her weak not only in the knees but her whole body.
He pointed to the space beside him on the sofa with a subtle movement of his eyes.
"Uhh! Mr Zyair... I needed my bag... they are waiting for me outside," she stammered, words forming with difficulty.
"It’s Zyair when we are alone, which we are. Call them and inform them that I will bring you. They can leave," his voice composed with the undertones of refinement and sexiness.
"But..." her sentence left hanging when he positioned his head sideways placing it on his palm and dramatically sighing. His right brow cocking at her as if daring her to defy him.
"Ok," she breathed out, trying to get her bearings right as she dialled Lawrence’s number and informed him of the decision.
As soon as she disconnected the call, Zyair left his place on the sofa and desirously strode forward towards her.
Skyla lifted her head and he was looming over, his hand fisted and deferentially rested above her head while the other was stuffed in his pocket.
The masculine oceanic scent unique only to him filled her senses making her hyper-aware of how close his heat was to hers.
It was like being transported back to that night in Mirage. Now she recognised him as Calix, he looked exactly like she had remembered him. The self-restraint she had to administer to not touch him was enough to move a mountain.
’You can’t show weakness, stay strong, stay strong,’ she repeated to herself, for the handsome angel of her desires was going to burn her until only her ashes remained.
Her forehead slightly creased, the ridges told him she was annoyed and he knew exactly why.
He extracted his hand and held her chin so lightly as if holding a delicate flower.
"You are angry at me." It was more of an observation said with a hint of amusement.
"Why would you care?" She huffed, crossing her arms around her bosom so she would nip the urge to touch him. Her chest heaved in frustration.
"I care very deeply. I just wanted to surprise you." His thumb began drawing comforting circles on her cherry cheek.
The will to swat his hand away didn’t exist in her but her anger had not subsided. How could he not attend the event?
"Why didn’t you come earlier? I wanted you to see it at least for a few minutes." She couldn’t hold herself back and lamented in a tired voice.
"I was here all the time and I saw everything. All your efforts, the way you carried out all the difficult tasks, fulfilled your duties and overcame all the challenges. The way you handled yourself today and oversaw others as well is commendable. I am so very proud of you, Skyla."
The praises he abundantly showered on her seeped into her pores, she relaxed and a slight smile puckered her lips.
"I didn’t see you anywhere."
"I was in disguise so no one would be able to recognise me and with the crowd we attracted it was difficult to track anyone. But I was there Skyla, beside you at every step."
The softness of his touch on her chin and cheek and his revelation turned her insides into putty, this man was undoing her bit by bit.
"Oh!" That’s all she could muster trying to escape his sharp unnerving gaze but his hold on her chin wouldn’t let her. The ridges of annoyance on her forehead had disappeared and now she didn’t know where to look.
"What reward would you like for conducting such a successful event?" He hummed like a symphony.
"I didn’t do it for a reward, it was an honour to arrange it." Her answer broadened his smile, she never failed to impress him.
"Regardless, I will get you something." He paused, "And you look beautiful tonight. The costume suits you. Did you like mine?"
The last words were whispered in an amusing tone which warmed Skyla’s cheeks tinting them further, her long lashes were downcast and Zyair could see the edge curling up. She was slightly shivering as she spoke.
"Yes!" The blush deepened and her breath came out ragged. freewebnovel.cσ๓
"Brings out the memories, doesn’t it?" He leaned further in, tilting her chin up so she would look at him instead of the floor.
He wanted to see those shy eyes squirming for control he enjoyed making her lose.
"Ahm! Let’s not talk about that." He was burning her with his gaze, with desires that thwarted like a turbulent sinful sea inside of her, with needs she knew only he could fulfil.
Resisting him every day was becoming a mammoth task and she didn’t know how long she could hold herself at bay.
And this look was not helping in the least, it was like all her fantasies had been combined and dressed up in one man. The man she couldn’t have for she was already married to the devil.
"Why not? Does it make you uncomfortable?" He teasingly asked, placing his nose in her Auburn hair and taking a deep whiff of her fruity scent.
She shuddered, she should push him away but where was the strength to do that?
"A bit, yes," she answered in a quivering voice.
"It shouldn’t, that was a beautiful night. Apart from being slightly sad because of that Happiness Reaper in your life." That last sentence made her smile and she pressed her lips together to control it from turning into a giggle. He caught her action.
"Just stating facts." He slowly shrugged.
"You looked very perfect that day and today as well." She shyly praised him trying to exert some control in her voice, it was tethering on the edge of falling victim to him.
"And you looked cute then and now," he murmured in her hair, his voice soft like the fluttering wings of a butterfly.
To and fro between them, these small teases elevated her heartbeat to an abnormal range.
"Thank–thank you," she was never a stammerer but this man was quickly taking away her ability to speak properly.
"No, thank you, Skyla for brightening up my world daily with your light. You don’t know how much it means to me."
His hand was in her hair now, combing them with his lithe fingers. The urge to just take her soft petal-like lips in his and knead them was overwhelming all of his senses.
"Zyair!" She watched him with her half-hooded eyes, trying to hide the carnal desires that jigged there.
"Let me go, please. We should leave," her words were like cold water on the burning embers that were his passionate longings. He ruefully sighed and let her hair go, putting a small distance between them.
It took everything in him to do that but he would never do anything against her wishes.
"Alright, Skyla but let me change first. Do you want to see?" He shamelessly asked.
