Chapter 120: Confrontation Between Husband & Wife
The following days were nothing but harsh for Skyla. Battling her ever-growing feelings for Zyair, restraining herself from acknowledging them and ignoring him.
She drowned herself in work. But the toughest part was facing her husband.
It was a week later when he finally came home with his face swollen like a pufferfish. Skyla was horrified and so was Amsilia seeing the condition of his face. He had been wearing a mask similar to Zyair to hide away the bruises he had left on him.
"What happened?" Amsilia asked in horror. She and Skyla were having tea when he entered the living room.
Doran threw the mask on the table in front of them before facing Skyla and pinning her with a murderous gaze.
Skyla stared back in defiance, her kind heart felt pity but no remorse for him. Finally, he got the taste of his own medicine.
"Why don’t you ask your precious daughter-in-law?" He roared in a blinding rage and Amsilia’s conflicted eyes roamed between the husband and wife.
Skyla didn’t hold back, she was done being afraid of this demon.
"Well, he came to my office, raucously caused a disturbance, accused me of trying to sleep with another man who in reality was trying to rape me and then he slapped me. So I threw him out of my office but my boss heard everything. He beat him up for disrupting his company’s peace and raising his hand on a female employee."
Amsilia was beyond shock now. She had been admiring Zyair from her short meetings and what Meena had told her about her son being a man of principle. But she didn’t know he would defend Skyla like that.
"Why would you do that?" Amsilia turned to her son, ashamed.
"Because she is a whore, who wants to sleep with other men," he pointed an accusing finger at Skyla, today ignoring her words where she informed him that she was almost raped and spat out.
Skyla derisively scoffed at him before calmly replying.
"Says the man who sleeps with his secretary."
"Watch it, Skyla," he warned her with a low growl.
"Or what? You will beat me some more?" Skyla stared at him dead in the eye. The girl who used to cower in fear had disappeared.
"Looks like you grew some tiny wings of bravery because of that masked freak. Are you sleeping with him too? Why is he so concerned about your well-being?"
Skyla wanted to laugh so hard in his face. Her morals were not so low that she would sleep with someone else while being married to him, even though their marriage was nothing but a deception. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"He just sees me as a human which sadly you are unable to. Doesn’t have to sleep with someone to earn their respect. Too bad men like you can’t grasp that notion." She boldly told him and he tried to take a step closer to her. He knew he couldn’t leave physical wounds now because of Zyair’s threats.
Amsilia wedged herself between her son and her daughter-in-law.
"If you could have a smidge of decency you wouldn’t be in this situation and other men wouldn’t have to defend her. Go to your room, Doran. Don’t make it worse than it already is."
Amsilia told him in a disappointed fashion.
Throwing one final malicious look their way he issued a final warning before leaving them.
"I will be watching you Skyla, if I find out you are having an affair it won’t end well. I am warning you."
Every muscle in Skyla’s body had tensed but she tried to put up a bold front, not quivering in front of him.
"Do you even realise how much loss your company will be caused if Mr. Zyair terminates your contract? And tell the world the kind of man you are?" Skyla asked in a mocking tone.
Doran had no answer to her questions. He knew too well that he was screwed the moment Zyair had found him exiting Skyla’s office.
"That’s where you come in. The freak seems to have some soft spot or feelings or whatever for you. Make sure that never happens or I will turn your life into a living breathing hell."
He sneered at her, his words dripping venom.
"As if it’s not already that," Skyla dryly muttered.
"Leave Doran and for once contemplate on your actions. What’s wrong with you?" Amsilia lamented, as a mother who has lost everything her heart bled knowing her son was too far gone.
Throwing one final hatred-filled look at his wife he disappeared up the stairs.
"I didn’t know he hit you again or someone tried to rape you. Zyair is such a caring boss. You deserve to have the support of someone like him."
Amsilia squeezed Skyla’s hand in comfort.
"It happened a few months ago but Zyair saved me. He is a very kind man and Doran is hell-bent on destroying him just because of the jealousy stemming from his success. I don’t know how to protect him." Skyla opened up to her mother-in-law. She was a wise woman. Maybe she could give her some tips concerning this issue.
"Yes, I can sense that and after their skirmish the rivalry between them will only intensify especially with him siding with you. Men are jealous creatures by nature, they can fool around themselves but would never let their women do that. Talk to Zyair, I know he is a rational and reasonable man. He will know what to do."
Amsilia sighed, not knowing how to get her son to see reason. And this mess was only going to magnify. It won’t be far when conflicts will escalate beyond their control.
Skyla was still conflicted about the thought of confiding in Zyair. She couldn’t get to terms with him getting hurt in issues which lay between her and Doran.
"Double standards much. I will try but I don’t want to get him too involved in my problems. He doesn’t deserve this. Anyway, I will retire for the night. I am drained and with our big event coming up, I need to be up early. Good night, Mom." She kissed Amsilia on her cheek.
"Good night dear, something rewarding is going to come out of this. I am sure of it."
Amsilia wished her good night and watched her walk away but the wheels of wisdom were turning in her mind.
Meena had been inviting her to tea and dinner at her house. It wouldn’t hurt to take Skyla along and see for herself how much Zyair cared for her.
He was single, smart, intelligent, was building up a whole empire and most importantly he was empathetic.
What if he was the salvation for her daughter-in-law? He was influential enough to protect her from Doran. A simple divorce wouldn’t liberate Skyla, she needed protection as well and there was no man better at this job than Zyair.
Once she extracts those papers and hands them over to Skyla she won’t let her live in this forsaken house anymore. The girl had a whole life ahead of her and she wouldn’t let her waste it.
With that determination and a smile of satisfaction, Amsilia went to bed.
