Chapter 102: Truth Behind His Necklace
(Four months later)
Following the Preston scandal, ’The Urbans saw a spiral decline in their sales and collaborations. The company experienced a huge setback. Although Preston was released using his influence and power of money, companies were still wary of making deals with them.
Doran saw this as a golden opportunity. He wanted to come out of Zyair’s shadow and this could be it. So he went to meet Preston to strike a deal with him. He didn’t care about the allegations against Preston. Women were merely commodities to be used in his eyes, just because one woman wronged him.
"Thank you for meeting up with me," Doran shook hands with Preston as both settled down in his office for their presumed meeting.
"Don’t mention it, Mr Doran," he brushed aside the formality with a gesture of his hand.
"I hope you got a chance to review my proposal," Doran asked, rubbing his chin.
"I did, you know business had been a little wobbly after those damn women tried to drag my name. They can never learn to stay in their place. But we are a multinational company, nothing can stop us." He smiled like a hyena.
"Tell me about it. All they have to do is spread their legs and keep their mouths shut. But no they go on yapping about equal rights and whatnot," Doran scoffed, understanding too well what kind of man Preston was.
"Precisely, see you get it. I like you, Mr. Doran and I think our companies can help each other stand out." Preston’s face had that evil smile going, he knew he found someone who shared his tastes.
"I am counting on it because I want to end my deal with Kincaid International and make a new one with your company."
"Ahh! I see. You have been collaborating with Zyair Kincaid. He acts so upright, came to us with a proposal as well and then." This raw hatred descended in his eyes as he had some personal vendetta against the man. His molars gnashed against each other.
"What happened?" Doran leaned closer in excitement, seemed more like a deal gone wrong than no deal at all based on the pricing issue as Skyla had informed him. Then Skyla had been lying to him when it came down to Zyair. Doran didn’t like how he gave her a VIP protocol.
"Oh! I will tell you. He got possessive over the pretty little thing he keeps as secretary. All I wanted was a little taste of her, don’t know why he cared so much about her when she was apparently married. I had her in my arms but..." the other words of Preston were dulled out by mind-numbing humming that gonged in Doran’s ears. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
’So I trusted her and sent her here and she was trying to seduce Preston. Until Zyair stopped them,’ Doran raged inside, ’and then she had the fucking audacity to lie to me. I am going to kill her.’
He clenched and unclenched his hands while keeping a professional smile plastered on his face. He wrapped up the meeting and caught the first flight home.

It was October, the season of mists and fallen leaves. It also meant Halloween and only two weeks were left in the special anime event they were holding. The anime clothing line and merchandising were to be launched during this event at Kincaid International.
The Anime team and Skyla were leaving no page unturned. This was their first grand function and they wanted it to be flawless.
Skyla was neck-deep buried in work, managing the styles and outlooks, choosing the models who would be gracing the ramp, dealing with the sponsors and perfecting the guest list.
It was Huria’s birthday that day and Skyla hadn’t gotten the time to properly wish her. They had spoken in the morning but due to her tight schedule, they couldn’t meet. So Skyla decided to make a birthday post for her on Instagram.
Unlike Skyla, Huria was very active on her Insta and loved it when people wished her on it. Skyla chose a picture from their childhood when they were merely seven and in pigtails. Baby teeth were falling out and both of them wore pretty frocks and smiled toothless smiles at the camera.
"Ah! This is perfect, this is how far our friendship goes," Skyla chuckled to herself imagining the look on Huria’s face when she would see their childhood picture.
She uploaded the picture with a heartfelt birthday wish, put in her favourite song and posted it after tagging her.
Skyla was slightly apprehensive because Zyair had been following her on Instagram from the time she had told him her Insta handle. He always liked all of her posts as soon as she would upload, be it a random meme, anything related to the anime world or simply a picture of the stormy clouds or fallen leaves.
Despite this, she had to do this for Huria and hoped that he wouldn’t tease her later for her lack of teeth at that time. Lately, he loved teasing her and she enjoyed every second of it. They had become more open with each other.
After posting the picture she placed her phone aside and got herself busy with work.
Zyair’s phone chimed in his office bringing in the notification that Skyla had posted something on her Instagram. He picked it up and swiped to open his Instagram.
The first thing he saw was the picture she had posted of two young girls standing in a garden, posing to the camera with toothless smiles as if their teeth had been stolen.
But instead of smiling his whole body went rigid when he saw the little girl with red fiery hair and that necklace around her neck. The same necklace which he wore around his neck every day, every hour, every minute, every second.
His hands trembled and his phone slipped from his hands dropping on the floor of his office.
Even if she hadn’t been wearing that necklace, he would recognise that little girl anywhere. The girl who served as the only ray of hope when he was abused, used and raped. What he didn’t know was that girl grew up to become his Skyla. The same Skyla who saved him from that life yet again.
His hand went around his neck and carefully he brought out the one winged angel’s necklace and held it in his trembling hands.
Never had he imagined he would see or find that little girl ever again. Assuming she belonged to some high society and would be happily living her life. Not even knowing how close she had been to him.
The silverish angel with only one wing shone with the strangled hopes he had carried. The miseries and sorrows he had faced. It knew all for it had seen it all.
The last straw of his restraint snapped with this picture. All his life he had believed them to be two separate girls but it had always been one.
The impulse to now barge into her office and claim her was too strong, it was overwhelming. His feet carried him towards her office, consequences be damned today.
